Anyone else get ‘the fear’ on a Sunday about going back to work?

I do like my job but get that sinking feeling on a Sunday afternoon about having to go into work the next day.

It’s always fine once I’m there but I still get ‘the fear’

Anyone else or is it just me?

Yes. I’m a student at a hospital and the staff treat us like shit. I am dreading going back and feel slightly sick about it 😕

Sushiroller · 19/01/2020 19:40

If I get this I know it's time to change my job.

Unless you have always had this since you first worked I'd suggest you need a new job

Fanniesyeraunt · 19/01/2020 19:43

I watched an old episode of the darling buds of May recently and just the theme tune was enough to give me “the fear”! It used to be on on a Sunday evening and I knew when it ended I’d be send for bath and bed before school the next day. I didn’t particularly hate school it was just that horrible ache in the pit of your stomach at the thought of another boring week at school!
I’m a sahm so luckily don’t have to get up for work however I still dislike mondays!

girlicorne · 19/01/2020 19:51

Yes, I really hate my job and have awful anxiety about it, especially on a Sunday night and worse after holidays. I am getting out this year though and gradually building up the time I am spending on another project to make it into a full time career. This time next year I will not feel like this!!!

BelgianWhistles · 19/01/2020 20:20

I used to get this horrendously when I was teaching. Most Sundays would end in tears. Changed careers and now I look forward to going to work

MyuMe · 19/01/2020 20:22

I used to it was awful.

I felt like a child who didn't want to go to school.

Now I like being at work but can't face the commute.

Ilovemyhairbeingstroked · 19/01/2020 20:28

Yes - and I’m a sahm, but it’s that worry of what the week will bring with the kids , especially as one has special needs .

SpeedofaSloth · 19/01/2020 20:29

Yes, massively so. I think I probably should be looking for another job though, I think the two are related as I haven't always felt this way.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 19/01/2020 20:29

Nope, never get the fear as I love my job helps that I work from home so no rushing in the morning and commuting

Panpastels · 19/01/2020 20:49

Yes new ish job and more responsibility combined with an anxiety disorder doesn't help, but I'm generally ok once I'm there. I get bad anticipatory anxiety about lots of stuff. I've started to just accept the feelings and it does help (rather than pushing them away).

winterchills · 19/01/2020 21:07

Yep me, it's an awful feeling and so hard to explain!

swissmummy12345 · 19/01/2020 21:09

Hahahahaha. Hearing the 'Antiques Roadshow' or 'Howard's Way' theme tune always meant bugger weekend is over and I haven't done my homework yet!

Monetmoney · 19/01/2020 21:10

Yep I definitely get this, even though on the whole I generally like my job!

BeardedMum · 19/01/2020 21:11

Yes but about my commute. I love my job, hate the commute.

FizzyPink · 19/01/2020 21:13

I really hate Sunday evenings especially in winter when it feels like it’s basically weekend over at 5pm. I do make a conscious effort to do something nice like go to the cinema or have a glass of fizz on a Sunday now so it doesn’t have that week night feeling to it.

trilbydoll · 19/01/2020 21:15

Not fear but definitely ugh, I wish I could just spend every day doing whatever I wanted. Work is okay but I can think of better ways to entertain myself.

Oct18mummy · 19/01/2020 21:17

No. I try and be as organised as I can so I don’t panic about where my stuff is etc in the morning. Also maybe I just don’t care about my job as much as you it’s a means to an end

DoreenSamuel · 19/01/2020 21:19

Ugh just got my work bag ready and suitable clothes out to wear. I don’t think I’m suited to getting up early or having to give up all my time. I wish someone would just pay me to do do nothing 😂

For exH Sunday night used to be a trigger for abusive, verbally aggressive behaviour. It was a reaction to Monday morning working.

I only work part time so don't really get her up too much about my next working day. Not enough to ruin my day.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 19/01/2020 21:24

Yes, here too. Used to love my job but new boss started 6 months ago & seems to drain any enjoyment out of the day. I have to do more hours on a Monday than the other days too, so definitely the worst day of the week.

collywobblescar · 19/01/2020 21:31

Yep! Had an awful Thursday last week and made so many mistakes. Fridays my day off and dreading going in to find more mistakes uncovered without me there

smeerf · 19/01/2020 21:35

I used to get it terribly, but then I had kids and now I look forward to every day. I have obligations, early mornings, routine and lots to do on weekend days and weekdays now so there's not much difference. In fact going to work and not being soley responsible for a tiny human is a bit of a relief.

PuppyMonkey · 19/01/2020 21:38

I’ve had this as long as I can remember, right from when I was as t school. These days, I find opening a bottle of wine around 4pm on Sunday helps enormously.Grin

Seriously though, The Sunday Night Fear isn’t half as horrible as The Constant Fear I had when I took redundancy and had no work for months and a steam of unsuccessful job applications.

Downton57 · 19/01/2020 21:46

When I was teaching, the gloom used to start early on Sunday afternoon. It's so lovely now to be able to enjoy my Sundays!

Snuffkindle · 19/01/2020 21:52

Yep, my week.is top heavy - i do two jobs and too many hours mon-weds, just one job Thurs-fri and no jobs sat-sun. Come Sunday night, the fear is strong 👎
