I was insulted today and told I look much older than I am. Could I ask you to tell me how old you think? Blush

Smoking doesn’t always add years on, I know plenty people that look younger yet smoke.

Also I said earlier that people without lines and wrinkles can still look their age so it works the opposite way too.Smile

TigerOnATrain · 19/01/2020 19:54

@Inappropriatefemale

You keep posting stuff trying to insist that people think you're younger than you are... Since around 7pm today, you have posted several comments claiming people think you're younger than you are. Why the desperation to be thought of as younger?

You don't look any younger than your age. No need to get angry. There's nothing wrong with looking your age.

As for saying I wouldn't say what I say on here to people in real life. (which you did at 18.28..) Yes I would, (and yes I HAVE,) because I have no time for people who laughably insist they look soooooooo much younger than they are, because it's pathetic and sad, and they never look much younger than their age. NEVER!!!!!!!

And as a few posters have said, it's buying into the ridiculous and misogynistic bollocks that women MUST LOOK YOUNGER than their age. It's fucking ridiculous, so just stop it.

I have had people in real life (usually women,) ask me to guess their age, and if I guess it older (even 2 to 3 years older,) they get arsey and snotty, and insist I must need my eyes testing, or I am just being a bitch, and everyone else thinks they look 10 to 15 years younger. But they never ever do!

I have even known several people get pissed off because I guessed their age CORRECTLY. One woman was 45, and I guessed 45-46 y.o. and she was fuming, because EVERYONE thinks I look like I am in my 20s.' Hmm PMSL!!! Grin

Like a pp, I also laugh when I see people saying 'I am 44 and get asked for ID to buy lottery tickets.' Oh PLEASE! As I said, if that IS true, then they must have awful eyesight OR they are terrible at guessing people ages! No-one, I mean NO-ONE in their 40s looks like a fucking teenager. Give over! Hmm

These people are so utterly deluded and precious. And there are a few people like that on this thread. Wink

And inappropriatefemale .. MOST people say stuff on the internet that they would not say in real life to people. You included my dear. Yes really! Wink

AND by the way, anyone who thinks this thread (and the OP) is 'lighthearted' is deluded. There is nothing lighthearted about ANY of this. Women feeling they MUST look younger than their age, women insisting people say they look younger, (and 'seem' younger,) and someone making a stupid comment like 'my friend looks 20 years younger and is soooo super cute!' FFS! I have read some shit on here but that takes the biscuit.

And people can stop telling me how to post too. I don't take orders from random nobodies on the internet, so jog on.

Yeah, they're in their 20s aren't they? And have smoked 5 years.

No WAY does anyone who is 40+, and who has smoked 20-25 years (or more,) look younger than their age.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 19/01/2020 19:59

No idea but I am 54 and you look around my age so I will go for mid 50s

TigerOnATrain · 19/01/2020 20:00

Oh FFS, this bloody thread is the first thing that comes up when you google 'AIBU mumsnet.' I really hope the pic the OP has put up IS her.

SirChing · 19/01/2020 20:01

I think smoking does age people.

As for the ID thing, it's pretty meaningless a lot of the time because loads of places now ask simply as a matter of policy.

I had Amazon Prime deliver some wine to my house. I answered the door looking my usual rough as fuck and the guy asked for ID. I just pointed to my face! Apparently looking haggered wasn't good enough, and I had to trot off and get my passport.

Although when I pointed to my face the guy said "Yes, I know, sorry" which I suspect would make some posters on here cry GrinGrin

74NewStreet · 19/01/2020 20:04

👏 Tiger Grin. It’s all true. I have to say I find the notion of teeny tiny super cute adults who look years younger than their actual age quite creepy.

How fucking teeny weeny can a healthy adult actually be, in a way that isn’t an actual physical deformity?

MimiLaRue · 19/01/2020 20:04

moking doesn’t always add years on, I know plenty people that look younger yet smoke

Give it enough time and its VERY obvious. When youre 20s, yes you can get away with smoking but over 40, I dont a single smoker who look younger. They all get those mouth lines smokers get from sucking on the cigarettes. Smoking is hugely ageing, it literally reduces the oxygen in your blood and damages DNA

Inappropriatefemale · 19/01/2020 20:07

People always say that Kate Moss looks older than 45 due to smoking and cocaine use and I genuinely don’t think she does, she looks over 40 but not over 45, in my eyes anyway, and she hasn’t had work done as she still has lines etc etc but I still don’t think she looks over 45. I also think that due to people knowing for a fact that she has had a cocaine issue then this is why they say she looks like she has had one, again imo anyway.

MimiLaRue · 19/01/2020 20:10

I honestly think "guess my age" threads always end badly. ALWAYS.

The OP in this thread has been a very good sport I admit. But usually, the OP gets angry and insulted when people guess incorrectly (even when out by a tiny amount). Then, people who guess correctly or higher get told theyre being "bitchy" and "catty" which is not true, and anyone who doesnt gush "OMG you look like a toddler!" is labelled "jealous" or "mean". These threads are always a bad idea. If you ask for brutal honestly online then dont complain when you get it.

Inappropriatefemale · 19/01/2020 20:11

This is true!!

74NewStreet · 19/01/2020 20:12

Yes, the “they’re just jealous, op” posts are bizarre.

Sagradafamiliar · 19/01/2020 20:12

Tiger why are you fuming though? Of course there's nothing wrong with looking your age but most people are adding decades onto their guesses, so it stands to reason that if some people look older, it's possible that others to look a bit younger. Or the age they are. Why are the most revved up people not even the ones who stand to be offended here?

Sagradafamiliar · 19/01/2020 20:14

For* others

And no one has said anyone is jealous.

SirChing · 19/01/2020 20:14

Inappropriatefemale I definitely think Kate Moss looks her age or a bit older. Stunning woman and I would sell my kidneys to look like her, but she could easily pass for 49/50. She is always well dressed though which gives the illusion of youth, and had a bloody good bone structure to start from.

Who really cares if we look older or younger? It doesn't matter. I worked with a woman who always went on about how she looked younger than she was. Truth was, she didn't. She May have done at one point, but it wasn't the point at which I knew her.

I do agree that there is nothing wrong with looking our age, and that most people look within a few years either way.

And those of us who did put photos up missed a trick. We should all have claimed to be 65 and therefore look amazing 😂

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 19/01/2020 20:15

@TigerOnATrain

I take your point, but you must've met people whom you thought were years younger than they actually are? I made a new friend a couple of years ago and I honestly assumed she was younger than me (I was 43 at the time). Turns out she was having her 50th birthday that year! She really does look about 40, slim, good skin, hardly any lines. I'm sure if she let her grey hairs show, she'd look older, but she's one of those people.

Likewise, I genuinely was asked for ID when buying a bottle of wine last summer. I was in a studenty area (drinking age is 21 here), wearing a short summer dress with my hair down. I'm sure the lady needed glasses, but it did happen. It hasn't happened since, of course! Grin

Inappropriatefemale · 19/01/2020 20:16

Different eyes see different things, I peg her at bang on her age.

I think men are horrid to women of a certain age and this is why most of us have issues with it, and not just men, it’s society and so it’s hard sometimes not to get a bit sad about aging.

SistineScreamer · 19/01/2020 20:18

I'd say late 50s, early 60s. Though the filter could be throwing me off.

Fatis, you look early 30s to me! You have a very young face, like a pixie!

YellowFeathers, late 20s, early 30s to me! Has anyone every told you you look like a prettier version of Jennifer Morrison?🤔

Inappropriatefemale · 19/01/2020 20:18

*Ageing

Everytimeiseeher · 19/01/2020 20:21

I don’t want to read 38 pages of comments. However I’m guessing between 48-52.
What age are you op?

74NewStreet · 19/01/2020 20:23

Will we read it for you, then?

HeadLikeAFuckinOrange · 19/01/2020 20:26

I'm late to the party, so didn't upload my photo. But I already do this in real life if asked Blush ! Just add 3 or 4 years to my true age, mainly because I mostly look fucking haggard, and it hopefully means people think I look my age! Grin

ReprehensibleRita · 19/01/2020 20:26

Give it time. Smoking always ages people. Firstly it changes the texture of skin, and then the ageing always starts. I used to work in operating theatres. Patients arrived clean and in a gown so there was no smell, but you could always tell the smokers by their skin
