Birthday girl's mum sending me rude messages! AIBU?

DS was invited to a party with a theme of 'ballerinas or pirates'.

I sent DS as a ballet dancer (as he does dancing), in his usual leotard, shorts, tights and ballet slippers. It's a very friendly community and no 'sissy' comments or opinions as far as I know. DS got nothing but compliments from other parents, children were just excited to see him and no child commented on his outfit.

Anyway, just received a message 10 minutes ago saying the following

"So! You really had to put Joseph in something else didn't you! Why couldn't you stick to the theme? I think it's just unfair, if I'm honest. Not impressed. You aren't fucking sane".

AIBU to 1. Have dressed DS the way I did, and 2., think she must be drinking right now? Confused

I'll be honest and say I'm annoyed at her text but really quite nervous to see her again at the nursery. What baffles me the most is we arrived with a friend who's DD wore a princess outfit and friend explained the situation that she just put on what she could grab - The woman who's text me just laughed and said not to worry at all! I assume she didn't say anything to me right then as DS still had his coat on when he arrived

There are lots of people in the world who like to look for arguments and fights. Whether it's a stranger in the street, a poster on an internet forum or the parent of a chid's classmate, the best response is just to ignore. You get nothing from engaging with these people and they just thrive on the confrontation.

I know you've replied now, but in future I would just treat her how you would treat any random person looking to argue. Avoid. Ignore. Get on with life.

bemusedmoose · 19/01/2020 19:07

Send her a pic of a boy ballet dancer and oh, I'm sorry I thought you said ballet not bigot. Then ignore the shit out of the fruit loop!

When it's princess and pirate time my dd always chooses pirate. Never crossed my mind that dressing up is gender specific, thought the whole point was to be what your imagination wanted you to be......

Instatwat · 19/01/2020 19:25

People REALLY need to RTFT!

OP has already responded and the Mum has come back. Updates on pages 4, 6, 7, and 12.

foodiefil · 19/01/2020 19:27

Not if you're on the app @instatwat rtft police 🙄

ThanosSavedMe · 19/01/2020 19:29

You absolutely must get in a “bless your heart“ with a wrinkled nose and tilt of the head

jannier · 19/01/2020 19:31

Sorry x luckily you seem to have sent this to me in error and not to the intended recipient, would hate a text sent in haste to ruin your childs friendship at school so it was a lucky mistake...as you know my boy went as s ballet dancer as per the invite. Not sure who would have ignored the invite and gone off theme??

zeeboo · 19/01/2020 19:32

I would ask her if she'd ever heard of Rudolf Nureyev.

Snaga · 19/01/2020 19:41

I hope this doesn't cause grief in general. You just can't argue with stupid or egotistical people and she appears to be both.

For what it's worth my daughter definitely would have been a pirate with an invite like that. She's told off people for asking why she wears "boys clothes" more than once declaring they are just T-Shirts/trousers/shorts and her wearing it makes it girls clothes!

Patroclus · 19/01/2020 19:44

Just call her Drunky from now on.

MissingMySleep · 19/01/2020 19:45

Wow what a horrible woman, I feel sorry for her daughter!

AllHeart1 · 19/01/2020 19:46

Haven’t rtft because ... we’ve had this thread before.....

lynney88 · 19/01/2020 19:55

NRTFT but please, please, please send her a picture if Alyssa Edwards in drag and out of drag as a dancer. She's from Texas .

zeeboo · 19/01/2020 19:56

I'd be tempted to dress your son in khaki, sling some ammo across his chest, give him a toy gun and a box made out of junk modelling stuff with the stars and bars on it and 'oil tanker' in big letters on it. And tell him to grin maniacally!

TakeNoSHt · 19/01/2020 19:56

What a rude woman! Never in my life would i send a text like that to another parent. Maybe they have issues

MonstranceClock · 19/01/2020 20:04

Call her a cunt. Americans LOVE that word.

Instatwat · 19/01/2020 20:15

@foodiefil I was just trying to be helpful, did you mean to be so rude?

Tommy86 · 19/01/2020 20:16

I have to say OP your replies were pretty weak and actually find them infurating. If somebody swears at you obnoxiously like that then you need to have a much stronger response.

TheyDoDoThat · 19/01/2020 20:21

The way I see it you have two reply’s

“arrr shoot how silly a lil ol me, dressin ma kid up in them there girly outfits just for a little attenteeion. I’m rootin tootin sorry for the inconvenience it caused y’all, see you in church”

Or go British... “what the bollocks like you nutter, it’s a kids party, get over yourself, twat”

Battytwatty · 19/01/2020 20:25

Jesus Christ. READ. THE. THREAD. FFS!!

Haggismom · 19/01/2020 20:27

I like Tink's suggestion - 'what part of the pirate/ballet theme did you get wrong?'
Then tell her never to text you rubbish like that again or you'll thump her.

welshbaby2009 · 19/01/2020 20:30

Oh dear , she sounds like such a nasty piece of work who clearly has gender stereotyping issues x

Wilkie1956mog · 19/01/2020 20:34

She's bonkers. I would just ignore it. Not worth getting into a text slanging match or anything. Just ignore it and ignore her.

TheYearOfTheDog · 19/01/2020 20:37

Wow, 14 years of having DC at school and nobody has ever questioned my sanity (to my face). Wow. And she threw in a ''fucking'' as well. That's hard core for an american.

Nanajadus · 19/01/2020 20:46

Next time you see her, I would just shout out. Oi did you get him, fab, cool or what.

DreamTheMoors · 19/01/2020 20:54

I live in the US - I’m American. I hear & read horror stories like yours about Americans often.
Bottom line: the woman was either high, drunk or just a bitch - I suspect a combination of the first two with the last.
She was totally & completely out of line. You should not be afraid to see or confront her - SHE is in the wrong, not you!!!
Freeze her out if possible - you don’t need people in your life like that. If I were you, I’d block her # as well, and on social media. Alert your other friends as to her toxic behavior - you’re doing them a service by warning them.
I’m so very sorry - most of us Americans are decent, nice people - I’m sure you have found that to be true.
So on behalf of us decent people, I apologize for this ugly American.
Much love.
