Laurence Fox on Question Time

It isn't ok to try and shut anyone up with remarks about their skin colour. It doesn't matter if that skin colour is white, black or green with purple spots.

His fellow actors have been told to "denounce" him. It looks like he can wave goodbye to his career. What lovely tolerant people the ultra woke are.

Another one who misunderstands white privelege.

Oh and that BBC research is only over a short period of time. Other research has shown that BAME MPs receive more abuse on Twitter than white.

However, this is not to say that any abuse is ok, but even with white MPs being high on that list, it doesn't mean that the abuse was racially motivated.

chomalungma · 19/01/2020 13:55

o doubt someone will come along to explain how this proves precisely nothing and black women can still expect to be treated far more harshly than everyone else, just because they say so

That study was from a single day.

In a 6 week study in 2017. Diana Abbot received 45% of abusive tweets sent to female politicians.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/sep/05/diane-abbott-more-abused-than-any-other-mps-during-election

In a 6 month study, she received 1/3 of abusive tweets sent to female MPs

"The report, authored by Amnesty technology and human rights researcher Azmina Dhrodia, looked at a sample of 900,223 tweets between 1 January and 8 June, drawn from social media analysis tool Crimson Hexagon."

Any comments on that

@Flaxmeadow Yet the report into rochdale disagreed with the judge, using information that was not available at trial.

It wasn't about race, people desperately want it to be so, to confirm their prejudices, but it wasn't.

AllideasAndNoAction · 19/01/2020 13:58

That’s probably because in that six week period DA was responsible for the majority of the most ridiculous shite uttered by female politicians.

Flaxmeadow · 19/01/2020 14:01

You keep saying this.
I'm quite prepared to discuss Peggy McIntosh 26 white privileges with you and why some, if not most, are not white privileges at all.

chomalungma · 19/01/2020 14:02

So she is entitled to abuse on Twitter?

malylis · 19/01/2020 14:03

Dianne Abbot made very similar errors to white male politicians during the 2017 campaign, they didn't get the same level of vilification that she did.Nor are they continuously mocked for it years after the event.

malylis · 19/01/2020 14:05

@Flaxmeadow of course.

Do you want to discuss intersectionality too?

Or how not all white people benefit from all 26 at one time? How about that the discussion had come a long way since the 80s when that was published?

Flaxmeadow · 19/01/2020 14:05

Do you disagree that a convicted gang screaming "white slag" at one of their rape victims (court and police evidence) is racist? Really?

lucasthecat · 19/01/2020 14:05

@TheRealMcKenna. - Stop it with your hard facts - they are getting in the way of people’s hand wringing - I particularly like how posters are throwing the victims of grooming gangs under the bus - Do you really believe it had nothing to do with ethnicity and a fear of being called ,
‘Racist’. Beautiful dismissing a judge who sat through weeks of evidence - and gave a clear summing up - I bet he was white and posh ...... the rotter

malylis · 19/01/2020 14:08

@Flaxmeadow not at all. That is racist, but that is a very different thing to the abuse being racially motivated as was originally claimed.

Flaxmeadow · 19/01/2020 14:09

@malylis
Yes, but it might take some time because I am going out for Sunday dinner soon. But yes I would like to discuss WP and also intersectionality, another concept I see as flawed, unhelpful and extremely divisive.

malylis · 19/01/2020 14:10

@lucasthecat are you dismissing the Jay report? You realise that in court only the case can be discussed not other elements that may prejudice it? That the Jay report was able to look at a far wider range of evidence.

No one is throwing the victims of grooming gangs under a bus either.

chomalungma · 19/01/2020 14:12

All those white men who talk about the Rochdale case couldn't give a shit about the lives of the girls involved. They couldn't give a shit then and they couldn't give a shit now. They talk about it because it fits in with their agenda about Muslims.

Just like other male groups who are anti trans because they claim it affects women's rights. They couldn't give a shit about women's rights. They are just anti trans.

birdsdestiny · 19/01/2020 14:14

That's not what is happening in the trans debate is it. The misogynists ar

malylis · 19/01/2020 14:16

I do believe the fact that the police failed to investigate properly was not to do with race, ad Asian men are more likely to be stopped and searched than white men, and arrested, but have around the same level of being convicted.

Why is it that racism isn't an issue there?

birdsdestiny · 19/01/2020 14:17

Oops. The misogynists are on the side of those who want to destroy womens spaces. Any man who is shouting at women because they are concerned about the disappearance of single sex spaces is a man to avoid in my view.

Lizzie0869 · 19/01/2020 14:28

@DisinterestedParty

I apologise. I suppose the issue is that people don't see the discrimination against Indians and Chinese people, as they see businessmen and medical professionals, because they work very hard and are successful. They do better academically than white people, particularly white people in deprived areas.

There's probably a lot of jealousy involved, as people don't like to admit their own responsibility for their own lives. And maybe there's more racial abuse than I'm aware of, because we hear more about abuse against Pakistani people.

I didn't mean any offence.

Flaxmeadow · 19/01/2020 14:30

All those white men who talk about the Rochdale case couldn't give a shit about the lives of the girls involved. They couldn't give a shit then and they couldn't give a shit now.

Try telling that to the fathers of the murdered girls Charlene Downes (Blackpool) and Lucy Lowe (Telford)

Lizzie0869 · 19/01/2020 14:31

There will be all sorts of reasons why the Rochdale and Rotherham SE scandals happened. But I think it was mostly because of the way vulnerable girls in care were viewed. They weren't viewed as victims but as child prostitutes who had made 'lifestyle choices'.

malylis · 19/01/2020 14:38

"Try telling that to the fathers of mudered girls"

Appeal to emotion and not a relevant point, you know for a fact what was being referred to.

lucasthecat · 19/01/2020 14:39

I know this started out a a thread about LF and Question Time - but it has shown why unfortunately the Labour Party - May well be nowhere near power for many years - Tell people who have a negative view of a mixed race - multi millionaire beautiful actress and socialite who only managed to have one blood relative at her huge tax payer funded wedding - they are racist or the new code word ‘white privilge’ tell them grooming gangs did not operate around race and power - with white young girls - and even now if you discuss its- it’s because you hate Muslims - Tell the population that if you voted Brexit you are either thick or a racist or more likely a thick racist - When you stand looking at another election wipe out - will you continue to blame the horrible Nasty people who live on these islands with nothing but hate in their Hearts ..... or will you look in the mirror and look what you have you turned into

malylis · 19/01/2020 14:49

Grooming gangs certainly operated around power, and they certainly tended to be from one cultural background (although white men are disproportionately represented as the perpetrators of CSE overall). However the girls were not targeted because they were white, as cited in the Jay report.

Immigration, racism and xenophobia did play a large part in the Brexit vote.

MM is not immune from racism because she has other privileges!

I love the fact that you use this victim mentality (wahhh you told us we were racist).
