I’ve heard his name a few times now, mainly people saying he is dangerous but that friends of theirs have started raving about him.
I only know what I have read within a guardian article (which I know is a biased source) but he does seem dangerous.
I thought I would ask the MN collective their opinion...

Who?

isabellerossignol · 16/01/2020 17:31

He's like many people. He says some quite sensible things. And many things that I find very worrying. He certainly thinks that women should know their place and I can't say that makes me feel fondly towards him.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/01/2020 17:32

Never heard of him/her.

araiwa · 16/01/2020 17:32

Dangerous how?

coconuttelegraph · 16/01/2020 17:32

Without googling I don't know who that is.

questionzzz · 16/01/2020 17:33

I thought he'd had his 15 minutes of fame?

MangoFeverDream · 16/01/2020 17:34

He’s good for slobby young boys.

hueyblue · 16/01/2020 17:38

Dangerous lol. No of course he's not dangerous, how ridiculous, he just has opinions that are slightly gasp different to what most Guardian readers think. I think he's great!

speakout · 16/01/2020 17:39

Media savvie, clever enough to be dangerous, deeply mysoginistic. Has some wise ideas regarding mental health he is a professor of psychology- he has suffered depression and his teenage daughiter struggles with an eating disorder.
I dislike him intensely.

He is of the view that women only have choices in society because males have give them freedoms to do so.
He hypes up his controversial position because he know it earns him money.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/01/2020 17:39

Having Googled I now think he's one of those people who is a dangerous as you think he is, and that will mostly depend on whether you agree with him or not.

easyandy101 · 16/01/2020 17:40

He's interesting on alot of topics

Better to watch his output rather than JP OWNS SJW type YouTube videos

The religion series is rambling, unfocused but also interesting

speakout · 16/01/2020 17:41

MilkTwoSugarsThanks

A "quick google" may lead you to that idea.

I have read and listened to his work for years and find him an Insidious force.

MitziK · 16/01/2020 17:42

His daughter doesn't just have an eating disorder, he actively supports and encourages it.

For that alone, he's batshit.

percheron67 · 16/01/2020 17:45

No idea who he is.

araiwa · 16/01/2020 17:49

She doesnt have an eating disorder at all

His daughter has an auto immune disease that caused her massive problems which she cured herself by eliminating food until she ended up eating only meat and vegetables which led to a massive improvement in her health. Jordan copied it and saw large health benefits too

ethelfleda · 16/01/2020 17:56

I’m not a guardian reader, per se. But I am left leaning which would give me my initial opinion of he could be dangerous’
BUT - as a huge caveat, I don’t like to form an opinion on bias if I can help it... I like to get view points from all sorts of people and genuinely listen and take them in. As long as they are out across respectfully that is.

Who?

Porta6 · 16/01/2020 17:58

I was on the fence until I watched his videos on God. Jeez, he is full of word salad. He can't define what God is and, if pressed, waffles on about it being everything good, a bit like Deepak Choprah.

Thinks the patriarchy achieved many great things, whilst at the same time believing that men and women were equally oppressed under it, not taking into account women not having access to the same education as their male counterparts at any level of society.

He is a beacon to young disenfranchised men but not really in a good way because he fuels their sense of oppression and malaise. So whilst he's not an incel himself, he is certainly popular with them.

I'd recommend watching his interview on Skavlan as well as his debate with Matt Dillahunty to get his views. Then you might want to find out more about Matt Dillahunty because he really is amazing.

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 16/01/2020 18:00

He's pretty bland, old fashioned liberal, doesn't put me up nor down though his diet stuff is pretty dodgy.

Anyone advocating extreme diets should come with caveats in my view.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 16/01/2020 18:00

@arawia you cannot cure an autoimmune disease. You can manage with diet but many things can cause a flare. If this is what he claiming then he is batshit

TheRealMcKenna · 16/01/2020 18:02

The best way to find out about his opinions is to listen to them.

There are some quite lengthy discussions with him on YouTube. The ones with Sam Harris and Russell Brand are interesting.

I agree with some of his opinions and disagree with others.

Amylox · 16/01/2020 18:07

He says lots of interesting things some of which I agree with some of which I don't.

I'm far more concerned about the number of people who think people voicing opinions they don't like is dangerous and that they should be suppressed and oppressed. I think they're by far the greater danger to all of us.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/01/2020 18:10

speakout

I don't think it matters how much you read about him or his work. If you disagree with what someone with a platform is saying then you're going to think they're "dangerous" whereas if you agree with them you won't.

I doubt he's well known enough to be dangerous, which gives those that do think he is plenty of time to formulate their arguments against him on his level.

Amylox · 16/01/2020 18:11

He and his daughter don't claim her autoimmune disease is cured, they say she's free of symptoms. Cured seems to be a term other people have used.

TooDamnSarky · 16/01/2020 18:14

Deeply misogynistic
