To have only just taken down my Christmas tree!?

In my defence, I have a lot of fragile glass ornaments on it...they're very old in some cases so taking down the tree means individually wrapping each ornament!

I just couldn't face it and before I knew it, it was the 16th! When did you take yours down? Has anyone still got one up?

You should have your Xmas tree down on the 6th of January

bigchris · 16/01/2020 06:48

Grin zoecarter
She knows that !

dancinginthekitchen · 16/01/2020 06:50

I was in Brussels last week - all the trees and lights in the hotels and public places were still up

BBInSleepsCounting · 16/01/2020 06:51

As you missed the 6th YABU for not waiting and taking it down on 2nd Feb.

recklessruby · 16/01/2020 06:51

I took it down on the 6th but I wish I could keep it up till the 26th (my birthday)

Isnappedandsharted · 16/01/2020 06:52

You do you. 😁🤣

Oysterbabe · 16/01/2020 06:54

We still have fairy lights in our bush.

Gwilt160981 · 16/01/2020 06:55

Took mine down the 6th but if you don't take it down by then supposed to wait till 2nd Feb. Could've had it up till me wedding anniversary 😁

willothewispa · 16/01/2020 07:01

We still have fairy lights in our bush

How unique Grin

Why the 2nd February ?

blubberball · 16/01/2020 07:02

At least it's done now 😁

BBInSleepsCounting · 16/01/2020 07:04

It's good to hear that someone has got a bush these days.

2nd Feb is Candlemas.

Fallsballs · 16/01/2020 07:06

I don’t think the police will arrest you OP.

ClashCityRocker · 16/01/2020 07:12

When I had my flat I just used to unplug it, but it in the spare room (which was mostly used as storage) and then bring it out fully decorated next December.

Ginfordinner · 16/01/2020 07:13

1st Jan here. I was sick of the sight of it.

SmileyClare · 16/01/2020 07:16

It's daft but I can't shake the superstition that it's bad luck to have your decs up after the 12th night.

If I pass a house with lights or trees up weeks after Christmas I do think to myself God how lazy, everyone can find a bit of time to clear it away and urgh it must be all dusty by now. Either that or maybe the people in that house have died.
Sorry!

byvirtue · 16/01/2020 07:23

I leave our trees up until the end of January but take down anything really Christmassy. Brings me a little joy in the dark days of January If anyone comments I tell them we celebrate winterval! Drives my husband potty!

ThunderboltandLightning · 16/01/2020 07:24

I do tend to think it is lazy to leave them up. But that is more of a commentary on myself than anyone else. Whatever works for you.

Strategicchoring · 16/01/2020 07:25

That's because New Year is a big deal in Belgium and France. Many people have a more extravagant celebration at NY than at Christmas. You can send out New Year cards over the Christmas period and up until 31st January.

PhoneLock · 16/01/2020 07:27

We still have fairy lights up on the front of the house. Not plugged in. We just have had no time (in daylight) to take them down.

Strugglingtodomybest · 16/01/2020 07:30

Mine's still up, I normally take it down on the 6th, but then I thought that if other people put them up early, then I can leave mine up late.

IsAnybodyListening · 16/01/2020 07:32

I took mine down Sunday 12th Jan.

feelingchange · 16/01/2020 07:32

I saw 4 different houses last week still with Halloween decorations up!

geekone · 16/01/2020 07:37

I saw a tree up last night! Lights on and everything.

Personally they should be down on the morning after the 12th night so they should come down on the 6th

Violetdaffodil · 16/01/2020 07:38

We took all the lights and decorations off by 6th Jan but left the tree in place, it’s going today. It was lovely to look at, and it seemed such a shame to chuck something out whilst it still looked “alive” IYSWIM

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 16/01/2020 07:40

I take my down on the 27th, so I'm probably just as much of a horrendous person as you Grin

I love Christmas, just once it's done, it's done. My family say I'm miserable, but I just like to have a fresh house ready for New Year!
