To have only just taken down my Christmas tree!?

In my defence, I have a lot of fragile glass ornaments on it...they're very old in some cases so taking down the tree means individually wrapping each ornament!

I just couldn't face it and before I knew it, it was the 16th! When did you take yours down? Has anyone still got one up?

I put some lights on the big boat planter at the front of my house, I liked them so much I've left them on. The solar ones on there don't really work in winter and these cheer me up.

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/01/2020 17:19

Mine's always up till mid Jan because of a family member's birthday. I put it up early December, but with all the running around getting ready for Christmas I never feel I really have time to savour it until after Christmas Day.

Certainly wouldn't judge people for leaving decorations up later. I still have a huge bunch of holly and mixed evergreens in the kitchen, looking as fresh as when I brought them in on Christmas Eve. And a poinsettia.

amazedmummy · 16/01/2020 17:20

I usually leave mine up a little later than normal but this year it all came down pretty sharp. I have a new baby and needed the space for all the baby crap I seem to have collected already.

ChipsCheeseAndBeans · 16/01/2020 17:22

Took mine down yesterday

victoriashleigh · 16/01/2020 17:32

Ours (real) wasn’t being collected until 14th Jan so we undecorated it and we just had the tree until Monday. Grin You could still smell it when you walked into the room which was nice.

OddestSock · 16/01/2020 17:40

I went past a house yesterday which still had its tree up. It looked lovely, and I felt sad that we took ours down on 6 January!

DesLynamsMoustache · 16/01/2020 17:41

We put fairy lights up and I like them so they are staying Grin

Mauhea · 16/01/2020 17:50

Mine's still up, baubles and all. Hoping to take it down over the weekend but we'll see...

PuttingouttheFirewithGasoline · 16/01/2020 18:25

I'm never dictated by dates when to put things up or take them down.
Mine is still up as are all Xmas Dec's.

Parker231 · 16/01/2020 18:28

We always take ours down on NYE. It’s our family tradition. You can take them down or leave them up as long as you want. There are no rules - just what suits you.

ILearnedItFromABook · 16/01/2020 20:04

If I lived alone and could just blink and have it done, I'd probably take it down by or just after New Year's Day. However, I'm lazy and married to someone whose national tradition is to leave the tree up until January 13th, so we usually do. (I never really look forward to the job of taking it all down again, anyway, so I'm fine with an excuse to put it off a bit longer.)

Ours is still up mainly because my husband wants to take a photo of our puppy by the tree, and we just haven't felt up to the challenge yet. Grin The plan is to get that done at some point during the weekend, then the tree can finally come down.

wishing4sun · 22/01/2020 13:39

Well taking down at weekend didn't happen was hit by sickness bug and today back to work with very little time till Saturday.

Mycatwontstopstaring · 22/01/2020 14:42

We too our decorations down on 1 Jan... Except for the ceiling garlands which are STILL up partly cos am lazy and partly cos son adores them

Elle7rose · 22/01/2020 14:49

No YANBU! January is long and dark and Christmas trees bring some light and sparkle so why she we take them down in Dec/early January? We took ours down on 15th January :)

Elle7rose · 22/01/2020 14:50

*why should we; not why she we

NannyOgg66 · 15/01/2021 13:16

I’ve reluctantly taken mine down today. I absolutely hate it, house always looks so bare. I usually take it down on 12th night give or take couple of days, but this year decided it’s been such a shit time I was going to leave it up a bit longer, was initially going to leave it till Candlemas on 2nd Feb as that’s what they did in Tudor times ! I’m not fanatical about it coming down on time, I don’t believe in the superstition of bad luck. I suffer from chronic illness and my husband works as a paramedic so we have to just do it when we get time as he works long hours, it’s not just about people being too lazy, you don’t know what else is going on. At the end of the day it’s your house you can do what the f*ck you like 👍

NannyOgg66 · 15/01/2021 13:42

Lol just realised this is last year! Grin

MarchSurprise · 15/01/2021 14:01

My little boy asks to see the tree every morning when he wakes up, so I can't bear to bring it down. Waiting for Candlemas as an excuse, but it does make me cringe when I come home and see my partner has left blinds open so everybody can see the tree lights flashing Blush. Everybody will just think we are lazy, rather than ruled by a little boy...

Tarantallegra · 15/01/2021 14:22

Mine is still up but I'm pregnant and have felt crappy for weeks so I'm not that bothered tbh. It will come down when I feel better and it's not like anyone is coming to visit to judge Grin

NannyOgg66 · 15/01/2021 14:23

@MarchSurprise that it is so sweet. They are only little for a very short time, enjoy it. Balls to the neighbours Grin I do get what you mean, I used to worry about it myself but as the years pass I’m giving less of a toss what other people think! I’m pretty sure most people have more important things to worry about at this time. I’ve seen a few houses with wreaths still up and lights up this year, more than usual. Only taken mine down today as don’t have a lot of room. Lights still up outside though.

TheNationsFavourite · 15/01/2021 14:32

Ours are still up, they look pretty and we just haven't had the time to take them down! But we live down a very long track and no one sees our house to see our slutty ways.

IndieRo · 15/01/2021 14:39

I go for a walk in the evening and still a few trees up with lights on and outside lights on too. I think where I live people have kept them up due to lockdown and just want to make the place look a little less dreary. I love looking at them on my walk.

NannyOgg66 · 15/01/2021 18:10

@IndieRo I completely agree it brightens everything up and I enjoy looking at them too. I’ve just put up some (more) fairy lights in my living room today after taking tree and decorations down.

Elieza · 15/01/2021 18:37

Mine is still up - til candlemass Eve, as according to Qi that’s ok and it was the tradition to have the deccies up from November onwards.

Prior to seeing that Qi episode I’d have it down by 12th night. But this year has been so depressing I need a bit of joy!

shotofchips · 15/01/2021 18:38

@Zoecarter

You should have your Xmas tree down on the 6th of January
