To ask what wrong with DD? She’s in pain down below.

TrySleepingWithABrokenHeart · 15/01/2020 23:25

For several nights now, DD (age 3) has been waking numerous times a night. She’s either asking for lip balm for lips that she says are sore or asking for a drink, or something else along those lines.

DD wipes herself now when she goes to the toilet and sometimes occasionally gets pain down below which I assume is from not wiping properly. I have friends who experience the same with their girls. If this happens, I’ll pop some bepanthen on her which seems to sort it out.

Anyway, one of the many things DD has been asking for in the night has been for some cream on down below.

DH and I are both getting really exhausted by the constant wake ups and tonight, DH calmly explained to her that if it didn’t look red, he wouldn’t be putting any cream on. DD got very distressed and was thrashing around as if in severe pain. I went in and managed to calm her down. I had a chat to her and explained she wasn’t going to get in any trouble but I needed to know if she was really in pain or if she wasn’t in pain but just wanted some cream on. She said she didn’t know and to be fair to her, her comprehension on somethings can be a challenge for her.

I calmed her enough that she went back to bed but I continued to watch her on the baby monitor. She had her eyes closed and periodically she would start crying and thrashing around like she did earlier with us in the room. She is clearly absolutely exhausted.

I went back through to her and she said it was hurting so I said we would try the cream and see. She has since fallen asleep and seems to be settled (for now).

Does anyone have any ideas on what’s going on? My gut feeling before has been that she was just wanting our attention but now I’m not so sure.

Seeing her in pain is really upsetting.

Could she have worms?

Juicy2020 · 15/01/2020 23:27

Do you mean pain or do you mean soreness?

brittabot · 15/01/2020 23:27

Maybe she has a bladder infection? I’d take her to the doctor tomorrow to get checked out.

NuffingChora · 15/01/2020 23:27

I’d get some Ovex in the first instance....

endofthelinefinally · 15/01/2020 23:27

Threadworms.

MaxNormal · 15/01/2020 23:27

Urinary tract infection?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/01/2020 23:28

Is she wiping from back to front? That would cause issues.

Whathewhatnow · 15/01/2020 23:29

How much extra is she drinking in the night?

It might be worth a GP visit to rule out eg urine infection and diabetes.

endofthelinefinally · 15/01/2020 23:31

Have you looked for threadworms? They only appear at night and cause awful discomfort.
If she is at nursery this is the most likely explanation.

AtrociousCircumstance · 15/01/2020 23:33

Why would you deny her the cream?! If she says she’s in pain there she’s not lying Confused

Take her to the doctor.

sodabreadjam · 15/01/2020 23:33

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago where a little girl had worms. They crawl out of the anus towards the vagina at night apparently. Shock

Haworthia · 15/01/2020 23:33

I would start helping her with toileting again. At least you’ll be able to rule out insufficient wiping causing skin irritation. She’s only three which is a bit young to do it by herself IMO.

Worms also a possibility.

Fatasfooook · 15/01/2020 23:34

Ovex

Northernsoullover · 15/01/2020 23:34

Threadworms. I'd put money on it. I had them as a child. The pain was horrendous. Just to confirm that I didn't imagine it last year I had exactly the same symptoms and it was threadworms again. I blame the keyboards in the library (but could have been anywhere really) for the source.
They only come out at night hence the pain only happening at night. Now I have Ovex in the house all the time.

Cryingoverspilttea · 15/01/2020 23:34

Threadworms or UTI.

Buy some Ovex over the counter and if she's the same in 24hrs then off to the GP for a wee test.

Retroflex · 15/01/2020 23:35

@TrySleepingWithABrokenHeart I agree with previous posters, and think you should call your GP in the morning. If you have a tupperware container, I would even preempt them asking for a urine sample, and collect one as soon as she wakes up, so that when you call for an appointment, you've already addressed that hurdle and you don't need to worry about getting a 3 year old to pee on demand.

Serin · 15/01/2020 23:37

Classic symptoms of threadworms.
I wouldnt bother the GP, buy Ovex from pharmacy tomorrow and see if that helps.

Blacksackunderthetreesfreeze · 15/01/2020 23:37

My guess was going to be worms too.

Thestrangestthing · 15/01/2020 23:38

Could be threadworms. Or maybe thrush, not sure if there's always redness with thrush.

TrySleepingWithABrokenHeart · 15/01/2020 23:38

She only wipes herself when she wees.

She woke up again after I posted. The pain is in the vulva and she really is thrashing around in discomfort with it. She has had Calpol and I’ve also put a pair of pants on her under her pyjama bottoms incase the seam inside is causing any further discomfort.

Is there anything else you can think of that I could do to comfort her tonight? I think a GP visit tomorrow is a must.

My daughter regularly did the same thing, almost exactly, always called for cream too! So bad once I called 111. The dr explained that young children often can’t distinguish where the pain is coming from, if that makes sense, so if she has tummy pain low down she may think it’s further down. Mine normally had this after eating or drinking something that disagreed with her (orange juice , we found, seemed to cause it). Obviously get it checked as it may be more serious, but if anything worse is ruled out it may be worth working out if there’s anything food-related that could be triggering it.

gamerchick · 15/01/2020 23:40

Yep worms. Treat anyway and treat the household. Now and in 2 weeks. The symptoms will stop in a couple of days after taking it

Don't fuck about with torches or gps or any other bollocks that's suggested on here. It's classic worm symptoms. Chemist and ovex.

zoobincan · 15/01/2020 23:41

All the suggestions for worms, did you check OP?

Kwkwjwkek · 15/01/2020 23:41

She needs to see a go! Why would you thinks she was making the pain up. She’s clearly in distress Confused

TrySleepingWithABrokenHeart · 15/01/2020 23:42

I did have a look with a torch earlier and couldn’t see anything but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not worms.
