To ask what wrong with DD? She’s in pain down below.

TrySleepingWithABrokenHeart · 15/01/2020 23:25

For several nights now, DD (age 3) has been waking numerous times a night. She’s either asking for lip balm for lips that she says are sore or asking for a drink, or something else along those lines.

DD wipes herself now when she goes to the toilet and sometimes occasionally gets pain down below which I assume is from not wiping properly. I have friends who experience the same with their girls. If this happens, I’ll pop some bepanthen on her which seems to sort it out.

Anyway, one of the many things DD has been asking for in the night has been for some cream on down below.

DH and I are both getting really exhausted by the constant wake ups and tonight, DH calmly explained to her that if it didn’t look red, he wouldn’t be putting any cream on. DD got very distressed and was thrashing around as if in severe pain. I went in and managed to calm her down. I had a chat to her and explained she wasn’t going to get in any trouble but I needed to know if she was really in pain or if she wasn’t in pain but just wanted some cream on. She said she didn’t know and to be fair to her, her comprehension on somethings can be a challenge for her.

I calmed her enough that she went back to bed but I continued to watch her on the baby monitor. She had her eyes closed and periodically she would start crying and thrashing around like she did earlier with us in the room. She is clearly absolutely exhausted.

I went back through to her and she said it was hurting so I said we would try the cream and see. She has since fallen asleep and seems to be settled (for now).

Does anyone have any ideas on what’s going on? My gut feeling before has been that she was just wanting our attention but now I’m not so sure.

Seeing her in pain is really upsetting.

Yeah their worm 🐛 fluid can cause red skin amd major irritation

thisisthetime · 16/01/2020 13:55

I'd get a urine sample tested straight away. My dd4 only complains of pain and soreness when she has a uti. She has recurrent uti's and doesn't display any other symptoms.

bonbonours · 16/01/2020 13:57

I would also suggest checking for worms, my daughter used to get them with no itching symptoms just waking up crying about sore girly bits and no symptoms in the daytime.

AMomHasNoName · 16/01/2020 14:08

Another one hear suggesting it could be worms. My DD suffered as your describing and she had worms . :)

AMomHasNoName · 16/01/2020 14:09

LellyMcKelly · 16/01/2020 14:15

Worms, my DD used to get them and they were very distressing until we worked out what was wrong with her.

Housechaos · 16/01/2020 14:20

My youngest does exactly the same thing as your daughter. She would wake up hysterical.

I treated for worms but it didn't help. In the end the GP swab showed a bacterial infection. Only seems to bother her at night when it flares up. Poor thing.

Mummyme87 · 16/01/2020 14:22

My DS who is 5 gets worms and he complains of pain not itching. I had them when I was young and recall severe itching at night. If you google it says children may complain of pain. Check her bum at night, or her poo. Get some ovex from chemist

Iloveplacentas · 16/01/2020 14:27

My daughter gets this, always has, even as a baby she used to cry when I wiped her with a baby wipe, she is very very sensitive and easily irritated. She would wake up crying in pain and the area around her vagina would be red. We figured out it’s triggered mostly by poor hygiene (bad at wiping) and urine would irritate her skin. Also any soap, bath products. When she woke in distress I used to give her a cool bath (no soap), then put on sudocrem and give calpol. She’s 7 now and rarely gets it anymore. We use organic baby shampoo/soap on her only and shower rather than baths. Plus she’s much better at wiping.

Iloveplacentas · 16/01/2020 14:30

To add, specifically anything containing sodium lauryl sulphate would trigger an episode

corythatwas · 16/01/2020 14:41

yes, it could be worms

equally it could be thrush or cystitis

ThebishopofBanterbury · 16/01/2020 14:44

Worms or a urinary infection. Not sure why you have not been to a gp.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 16/01/2020 15:33

Hope you've treated her by now!

WeaselsKingHenry · 16/01/2020 15:37

Another vote for worms. DS had the same symptoms you describe and we fannied about for weeks treating it as thrush (misdiagnosed by the GP Hmm). After much googling and inspection of her nether regions with a torch, we got confirmation. Two doses of Ovex later and all was back to normal. We now worm our household every 2 months, at the same time as our cats!

WeaselsKingHenry · 16/01/2020 15:37

DD not DS, stupid phone.

Sunflowersok · 16/01/2020 15:41

Same experience when mine was younger! Turned out to be threadworms that itch sooooo bad it’s unbearable (I remember them from when I was a child!) she couldn’t distinguish what was pain from what was itch because of her age of course which made it difficult

Northernsoullover · 16/01/2020 19:29

Worms are really painful. I never once had itching but pain. Then extra pain from drinking that awful Pripsen. Thank God they don't make that anymore

Retroflex · 16/01/2020 20:04

@gamerchick "Don't fuck about with torches or gps or any other bollocks that's suggested on here. It's classic worm symptoms. Chemist and ovex."

Ridiculous and dangerous to make assumptions like this! Of course the op should take her child who is visibly in pain to be checked by a doctor! Angry

Why the hell would anyone accept a diagnosis from some random person on the internet as fact? You must be batshit to think they would... Hmm

Retroflex · 16/01/2020 20:08

Oh dear @gamerchick "wash her bottom as it's the glue that they use that causes the itching. Get all of that off." thankfully you're sounding less credible since your previous post, so if anyone was a little unsure as to whether you were qualified in any way to give a firm diagnosis, they'll definitely know for sure that you're bagshit now... Hmm "glue" Grin

It wasn't the nicest stuff. Memories Grin

zoobincan · 16/01/2020 21:07

@Retroflex

I just presumed gamerchick was referring to the mucus when she said glue. It's not really that dissimilar.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 16/01/2020 21:13

Omg was that Pripsen raspberry flavoured???

Flashbacks 🤢 I still can't eat raspberry ice cream to this day as it reminds me of it.

gamerchick · 16/01/2020 21:20

It was, bloody awful stuff and violent. Effective though. You don't forget what it smelled or tasted like. Envy

Holymolymackerel · 16/01/2020 21:44

Bloody awful was pripsen, I cant eat or drink anything strawberry flavoured.

Couldn't leave the house cos of needing to be close to the toilet.

Realised the connection between biting finger nails and worms was my issue.

Newname1978 · 16/01/2020 22:32

Classic worms
