To ask what wrong with DD? She’s in pain down below.

TrySleepingWithABrokenHeart · 15/01/2020 23:25

For several nights now, DD (age 3) has been waking numerous times a night. She’s either asking for lip balm for lips that she says are sore or asking for a drink, or something else along those lines.

DD wipes herself now when she goes to the toilet and sometimes occasionally gets pain down below which I assume is from not wiping properly. I have friends who experience the same with their girls. If this happens, I’ll pop some bepanthen on her which seems to sort it out.

Anyway, one of the many things DD has been asking for in the night has been for some cream on down below.

DH and I are both getting really exhausted by the constant wake ups and tonight, DH calmly explained to her that if it didn’t look red, he wouldn’t be putting any cream on. DD got very distressed and was thrashing around as if in severe pain. I went in and managed to calm her down. I had a chat to her and explained she wasn’t going to get in any trouble but I needed to know if she was really in pain or if she wasn’t in pain but just wanted some cream on. She said she didn’t know and to be fair to her, her comprehension on somethings can be a challenge for her.

I calmed her enough that she went back to bed but I continued to watch her on the baby monitor. She had her eyes closed and periodically she would start crying and thrashing around like she did earlier with us in the room. She is clearly absolutely exhausted.

I went back through to her and she said it was hurting so I said we would try the cream and see. She has since fallen asleep and seems to be settled (for now).

Does anyone have any ideas on what’s going on? My gut feeling before has been that she was just wanting our attention but now I’m not so sure.

Seeing her in pain is really upsetting.

Worms

gamerwidow · 16/01/2020 06:39

My DD gets this quite a lot it’s normally cleared up with loads of sudocreme. Hers tends to come with vulval redness and dryness though.

GertrudeCB · 16/01/2020 06:40

Glad your treating for worms, my dd had exactly the same symptoms years ago and it was worms.

gamerwidow · 16/01/2020 06:40

Ps do try Ovex too though. It won’t hurt even if it isn’t worms.

Jengnr · 16/01/2020 06:44

Worms vote here too!

Thefaceofboe · 16/01/2020 07:06

Hi op. Could she have cystitis or an UTI? when I was younger, from about 3-10 I used to get cystitis every month and was in agony with it most nights, although if you were to look you wouldn’t see any sign of discomfort. My mum didn’t know why I was in pain until I got a bit older and could clearly tell her

Thefaceofboe · 16/01/2020 07:07

Just read it’s at night so I agree with others saying it’s worms

Thefaceofboe · 16/01/2020 07:09

@managedmis you must sit searching mumsnet all night then. I’ve not seen a thread like this recently and if you have, don’t click on it. Simple

LizziesTwin · 16/01/2020 07:14

I’d add no bubble bath - dd1 reacted badly

BedSprings · 16/01/2020 07:17

I remember from a previous thread someone advising not to bath the child if you suspect threadworms as the eggs float and stick to the body. Shower or strip wash.

SallyWD · 16/01/2020 07:22

My daughter's had cystitis a few times and complained it hurt there. She also used to get sore down there if we used bubble bath. It took us a while to notice the connection.

Putapeonyinyourpocket · 16/01/2020 07:25

Apparently playdoh is renound for carrying threadworms eggs after being mashed continuously by little hands for weeks on end. The eggs tend to colles under fingernails and playdoh is really good at extracting them.

Oh my God, I never knew this! Will be steering clear of what was once my favorite table at play group Confused

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 16/01/2020 07:31

Worms! This happened when my dd was 4.
She thrashed around crying for the whole night but she was itchy too.
Dose of worm medicine sorted it out.

OrangeUmbrella · 16/01/2020 07:33

Thirsty, dry lips and sore down there could be symptoms of type 1 diabetes. Disqualify that ASAP.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/01/2020 08:04

My dd was like this with worms too, and also with any bubble bath apart from the basic Johnson’s baby one.
Friend’s ds had worms and was screaming at night, but with girls , as said above , they can be even more uncomfortable.

dottiedodah · 16/01/2020 08:18

Clearly this needs to be checked out by GP ! At 3 she is not able to be specific about pain ,but why would she make it up? See what the Doctor has to say and that hopefully will reassure her and you .

couchparsnip · 16/01/2020 08:27

Reported the troll hunter. No need for that.

Scapegoatforlife · 16/01/2020 08:55

Worms don't cause pain !!! Just itching

elfies · 16/01/2020 09:01

Another vote to check for diabetes, being thirsty is another pointer .

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/01/2020 09:19

Worms don't cause pain !!! Just itching
If they migrate to the vulva they cause severe pain, my dd was in agony! It’s not unusual at all.

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/01/2020 09:20

Try reading the article that’s not my daughter btw.

Cremebrule · 16/01/2020 09:49

Has she got any discharge? Mine managed to give herself a bacterial infection. She was sore and red (but not thrashing around sore). They took a swab at the gp and then gave her antibiotics.

zoobincan · 16/01/2020 10:14

Worms don't cause pain !!! Just itching

And that itching causes people to scratch which causes pain.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 16/01/2020 10:57

Worms don't cause pain !!! Just itching

As someone who had worms twice as a child I can assure you that they cause absolute agony! They itch at times, but as they multiply they cause serious pain.
