Mumsnet advertising Daily Mail on Homepage

Bessica1970 · 15/01/2020 21:50

I actively avoid anything to do with the Daily Mail (I don't click on links from them) and cut up my Nectar card when Nectar started promoting the Daily Mail.
I was very disappointed to see Mumsnet homepage plastered with adverts for, and links to, the Daily Mail.
Now I enjoy reading MN - but if I'm going to stand by my principles I need to cut off MN don't I?

YABU - Keep Mumsnet, there's nothing wrong with the DM
YANBU - Dump MN, they're supporting hatred by promoting the DM

  1. I have adblocker.
  2. i never look at the MN Homepage.
Lockheart · 15/01/2020 21:56

This is not an AIBU.

Binterested · 15/01/2020 21:57

Mail are doing more for women than the Guardian atm so there’s that.

MT2017 · 15/01/2020 21:58

I see one. Would rather not see any but certainly not plastered all over.

Also have ads for Tesco and Kent County Council (don't live in Kent Confused)

Nanny0gg · 15/01/2020 21:58

Mumsnet are a business that give us all a platform to speak on for free.

Therefore they can take whatever advertising they like.

Therefore YABU.

sirmione16 · 15/01/2020 22:00

I don't think MN control what ads go on there do they?

user1473878824 · 15/01/2020 22:01

🙄

misspiggy19 · 15/01/2020 22:02

YANBU- Daily Mail are scum

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 15/01/2020 22:02

YABU

I'd be more pissed off if it was that misogynist rag, The Guardian

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 15/01/2020 22:04

Sirmione, I think you're right.

Google shows you ads based on your preferences...

lucieinthesky · 15/01/2020 22:05

People will see different ads based on all sorts. You might be seeing one for the daily mail because you've visited mail online recently and are being retargetted Hmm

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 15/01/2020 22:06

I’m not a huge fan of the DM, but at they publish the stories that show some of those in the TRA, for what they are. I’m talking about the law breakers, before you get your ban hammer out, MNHQ.

Woeisme99 · 15/01/2020 22:24

My front page shows a link to a girl seeing used knickers on Gumtree. Absolutely no idea why, I've never searched for used knickers not do I particularly use Gumtree.
Its either Huwai fucking with me, or the algorithm has gone wrong somewhere.

But it's bog all to do with Mumsnet, and as per pp, it's a free service that we all chose to use. The sense of ownership (for want of a better word) of some users baffles me.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 15/01/2020 22:30

I only ever see adverts for beautiful, elegant clothing on mine. I’m neither. 😁

londonrach · 15/01/2020 22:32

Never seen a daily mail ad...at moment lots of toy ads so think i might have being too much research over xmas

Cacaca · 15/01/2020 22:35

I’ve never seen a Daily Mail ad. Are you sure it’s not to do with your cookies and browsing history?

74NewStreet · 15/01/2020 22:37

I always have to laugh at the utter irrelevancies of your posts Sparklingbrook

ACatWhoBinds · 15/01/2020 22:45

YANBU - I saw it today and thought the same thing.
To all those saying "at least it's not the guardian" why does it not surprise me that you prioritise that one section of your feminism rather than feminism as a whole. The daily mail is toxic, sexist trash and even if they support a couple of your views that's no excuse. Tabloids like those are the ones that had pictures of Britney Spears in a school uniform as soon as she was legal. Is that your feminism? You like the objectification of women? Bc I didn't think that was feminism but ok 🤷🏻‍♀️

lollybee1 · 15/01/2020 22:47

The ads are personally tailored to you. I get EMP and swarowski.

WorraLiberty · 15/01/2020 22:48

That's a bit of a weird vote there OP.

If you've been on Mumsnet longer than a few weeks, you'll know it's MN's most popular newspaper and always has been (well in the 9 years I've been posting here anyway).

No other newspaper is as widely discussed or linked to as the Daily Mail.

It's up to you which forum you choose to be a member of.

WorraLiberty · 15/01/2020 22:52

YANBU - Dump MN, they're supporting hatred by promoting the DM

Why would anyone be here to click the YANBU button, if that's how they felt? Confused

You didn't think this through, did you? Grin

Broken2020 · 15/01/2020 22:54

@Woeisme99 Sounds like your husband has some explaining to do.....

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 15/01/2020 22:56

I do agree that the DM is as misogynistic as you say, ACatWhoBinds, but at least they know what a woman is and have still done more to let the public know what is really going on, than the woke liars that the Grubian.
