Do you have any where you live, or any local urban legends?

The closest town to myself there was a man who drove round on a mobility scooter with 4 or 5 real life owls sat with him... He would stop and let people have pics with him and all sorts.

It wasn't done as a one off or charity, he just liked to takes his owls out I guess.

Whattobuyforbirthday Oh, yes, Alan Bennett took her under his wing and wrote a play about her. Maggie Smith played her in the film version. wonderful play.

CaviarAndCigarettes · 15/01/2020 22:46

There's a dude on an estate near us who rides a penny farthing bicycle. Mental

DoesNotMixWellWithOtherPeople · 15/01/2020 22:48

I’m just going to leave Jumping Jimmy Thunder here and see if anyone as old as me turns up to claim him.

Scrump21 · 15/01/2020 22:48

I am loving reading about people who take their animals with them. Owls, llamas etc.

I would love to be able to keep pet capybaras and walk them on a lead. I'd be the Capybara Lady.

mylifestory · 15/01/2020 22:52

To answer from both angles, we have the whino who sings opera rather well in the tube station, there used to be an old guy dressed as a woman on a bicycle and the tourettes woman who stands outside my house dressed provocatively just swearing at everyone. Most real celebs have moved but Julian Cleary, Leslie Ash, Mark Owen (Take That 1), Phil Spencer, John Torode (his kids went to our school), Ed Shearan, loads of actors you'd recognise from tv ....

mandydoherty65 · 15/01/2020 22:53

Tyson Fury once came to our carboot stall, he wanted us to come down on the price of a picture he liked but my son refused. Well with all the money Fury must have in his bank account surely he could stretch to £8 was the reason my gave me 😁 Also seen Fury in our local Asda a couple of times too!!

Newnamexxx · 15/01/2020 22:56

I used to go to circuit training with Tony from Dinnerladies, a long time ago and also Harriet from Emmerdale worked in a bar that I used to go to. Also know Mark Addy and Paul Robinson, ex Leeds footballer...

CeCeDrake · 15/01/2020 22:56

@Ellisandra we also have an amazing runner guy in town, he honest to god never stops moving and must be close to 75. Hopefully in 10 years I’ll still see him out running, sweatbands and all! Crown Grin

Bunnyfuller · 15/01/2020 22:57

@VanGoghsDog

Ooh now I’m jealous! You’ve actually seen him! Did you say hello in a dog-walkers way and then mutter ‘everyone lies’.

Yes, I go to the gym next to the school and walk past PR’s signed sports/running bra thingy on the way to the changing rooms 🙈 ‘Hi PR bra top thingy’.
Letitias house is on a busy main road and is a bit weird. Daniel is allegedly renting somewhere around Woburn. I think another (lesser) Eastenders actor lived in Biggleswade of all places! Must be the rail link!

CeCeDrake · 15/01/2020 22:59

There’s also a person in town who everyone knows to see that wears a leather cowboy hat with feathers and used to rub themselves inappropriately on lady passerby’s. They have stopped the inappropriate stuff but still walk around town talking to every female that looks in their general direction. I quite like eccentric people so have a soft spot despite the past!

Newnamexxx · 15/01/2020 22:59

@Keffie12 - I know where you live 😂😂, I live near there too and DD used to live in a village near where I live!!

cheesemongery · 15/01/2020 23:01

'50p Lil'

Absolutely outing as to my town if anybody knows what I'm saying Grin

Welshmaenad · 15/01/2020 23:07

When I was a teenager, I worked in a pub and Noel Johnson, who played Dick Barton in the radio series, was a nightly regular. He had his own seat at the bar (woe betide anyone perched on it when he arrived) and his own water jug to go with his Bells whisky, and he was an absolute character. He could be very gruff and rude but he liked me and we had some nice chats. He was an interesting man, I was very sad when he died.

VanGoghsDog · 15/01/2020 23:07

@Bunnyfuller

I was driving so no, didn't speak to him. Not sure what "everyone lies" is to be honest? I'd probably just smile in that "do I know you....where do I know you from......should I say hi....am I being rude....oh you look like someone famous.....oh shit, I'm smiling inanely at a famous person" sort of way.

Unless I saw him in the Nisa. I'm sure I'd think of something to say then (apparently he does go in there to get his paper).

I used to live near Rowan Atkinson, saw him in his car now and then. Couldn't miss his car! He gave DSS a thumbs up at the level crossing once. To DSS he's Mr Bean, to me he's Blackadder!

jakeyboy1 · 15/01/2020 23:08

Celebs - I used to see Big Ron and Pete Waterman always at the petrol station by my old house.

Local legend - we have "shorts man" !

VanGoghsDog · 15/01/2020 23:09

I go walking round Woburn a lot, I'll look out for Daniel.

My sister went to uni with (Sir) Sam Mendes, who I met back then, and he has some funny stories about DC, he does sound like he's a lot of fun!

Welshmaenad · 15/01/2020 23:11

Oh, I also grew up across the road from the guy who sings the new Fireman Sam theme tune. Our sisters are best friends. That's always a winning claim to fame with small children 😂

Ariela · 15/01/2020 23:34

@Tuniff Elvis did turn the Christmas lights on.

Round here, from time to time, you will see a sofa car, or a bed car or sometimes even a desk car driving past. That's Edd China
