AIBU to have a king size duvet on a SuperKing bed?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 11/01/2020 14:53

Have ordered a Superking bed to replace our king size.
The kingsize bed is going to go in our spare room instead of the double that is currently there.

Can I get away with continuing to use the existing king size duvet and covers?
Ditto just use the double duvet on the king size bed?

No

mrsbyers · 11/01/2020 14:55

It’s really your own choice , seems odd to ask for people’s views

Scotinoz · 11/01/2020 14:56

You could, but I'd be kind of weird. The point of a superking is to have more space, but you've not got enough duvet to cover it using a king.

EggysMom · 11/01/2020 14:56

I always go 'one size up' the other way - double bed has a king size duvet, king size bed has a superking duvet. I've never had room for a superking size bed to decide what I'd use then (but probably two doubles)

PassMeAnotherCoffee · 11/01/2020 14:57

We had our SKS for a number of years before we bought a bigger duvet, and started with only one set of covers for it!

You do need bigger sheets though Grin.

MmmMalbec · 11/01/2020 14:58

We always sized up. We have a super king and wish we could get an even bigger quilt. Can’t understand why you’d have smaller but it’s personal choice!

Stonerosie67 · 11/01/2020 15:02

No, you'd constantly be battling to get it to cover you.

Berthatydfil · 11/01/2020 15:03

You could but it’s going to be skimpy and you won’t have much spare overhang at the sides.

PurpleSproutingSomething · 11/01/2020 15:06

I'd say no, unless you're sleeping alone, then you might be okay. I'm a lone sleeper in a SKS bed, and it's good for making oneself into a sausage roll type arrangement.

ThinkPositiveThoughts · 11/01/2020 15:10

I'm a lone sleeper in a SKS bed

I’m not a jealous person but I’m unbelievably envious of this

WiddlinDiddlin · 11/01/2020 15:11

We have such different duvet requirements that on our SKS bed we have..

Kingsize thin duvet (me)
Kingsize mega heavy feather duvet (me)
Double thin duvet (him)
Double thick duvet folded into quarters on my feet (lurcher, sleeps between the layers like a lurcher pasty).
Fleecey throw to put over saluki so she knows its night time, as she has brain of budgie.

Now that we have our own duvets and I can roll up in mine like a human sausage roll and he can sprawl with his round his middle, everyones happy!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/01/2020 15:11

We have and it's more than enough covers. It overhangs both sides of the bed.

Even better... Get a set of covers each like they do in some continental countries. Far better than wresting with oversized duvets.

MrsAgassi · 11/01/2020 15:14

No to the king size.

Two singles works well though. Much better imo than a sks.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 11/01/2020 15:16

this may be one of the most dreadful things I have ever read on here.

kingsize duvet on a superkingsize bed. Shock Shock

Heismyopendoor · 11/01/2020 15:17

No. Too small.

I have it the other way around. King mattress and super king duvet.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 11/01/2020 15:18

The other option is keeping the king size duvet on the king size bed when it moves to the spare room (duvet cover is totally the wrong colour but never mind), then using us having a double on the mega bed.
I've got 2 very nice double duvets that will be surplus to requirements...

I guess it depends how close you like to sleep. If you each like a gap in the middle so you can spread then the duvet will be too small.

GertiMJN · 11/01/2020 15:24

My preference would be 2 duvets on the super king, not one smaller duvet. I couldn't bear that.

Retroflex · 11/01/2020 15:25

@WiddlinDiddlin I laughed when I read "Fleecey throw to put over saluki so she knows its night time, as she has brain of budgie" as my own dog will only settle and sleep when he is completely covered up and I thought I was the only one who had a weird dog!

As for your cover situation @where I guess it comes down to personal preference, but I've always had to go a size up with duvets, because otherwise its a continuous game of who has more covers during the night.

PPopsicle · 11/01/2020 15:27

Just why.

Duvets aren’t that expensive and last ages it looked after

TheBeaconsAreLit · 11/01/2020 15:28

This is what we have - we were bought a new king size duvet right before deciding to get a super king size bed and couldn't afford to replace it.

It's been fine though, it overhangs both sides no problem, just not as much as it would on the right sized bed. Plus duvet covers aren't as expensive!

LesLavandes · 11/01/2020 15:37

Noooo. You will be cold and look ridiculous

emwithme · 11/01/2020 16:47

We have a super king bed and a double duvet each. Saved our marriage, if I'm being honest

Frariedeamin · 11/01/2020 16:52

We have a king size bed and two duvets - one super king (for me who likes to become a sausage roll!) and a double for DH who likes a light single layer!

dontlikebeards · 11/01/2020 16:59

We have a KS quilt on a SKS bed and have no problems. (And I can't bear to be touched when im asleep so we don't sleep anywhere near each other!!!)
