AIBU to have a king size duvet on a SuperKing bed?

Have ordered a Superking bed to replace our king size.
The kingsize bed is going to go in our spare room instead of the double that is currently there.

Can I get away with continuing to use the existing king size duvet and covers?
Ditto just use the double duvet on the king size bed?

We have a king size duvet on a super king bed, simply because there is a lack of choice of super king bedding sets. It works out fine for us.

joystir59 · 11/01/2020 17:01

We too sleep with lots of space between us.

JosefKeller · 11/01/2020 17:03

Is one person is sleeping, it's fine. Weird and it looks temporary, but fine.

for 2 people? oh no, you should always size up. Buy a duvet each, or a proper sized duvet.

Dhalandchips · 11/01/2020 17:04

I am also a lone sleeper in a sks bed. With a sks duvet. Wouldn't have it any other way Grin

Oblomov20 · 11/01/2020 17:06

I can't barely get my kingside sheet on my Kingsize bed. It's a struggle to get it on.
Why on earth would you go smaller? I don't get the logic.

LittleBearPad · 11/01/2020 17:06

Just buy the right size duvet

guineapig1 · 11/01/2020 17:07

I think it is comfiest if you size up. We started with a ks bed and a sks duvet. We now have a sks bed with an emperor duvet. It’s lovely!

PurpleSproutingSomething · 11/01/2020 17:07

@Dhalandchips do you still find yourself sleeping in one spot though?

thatgingergirl · 11/01/2020 17:12

I use a king size duvet on a super king size bed. It does overhang although not quite as much as I might like, because the mattress is very deep, but I get much more choice of covers (and they're cheaper).

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 11/01/2020 17:35

@emwithme We have a super king bed and a double duvet each. Saved our marriage, if I'm being honest
Do you put the duvets on top of each other when you make the bed or fold then in half on each side?

OP posts:
emwithme · 11/01/2020 17:39

Side by side folded in half, as close to each other as possible, with the fold in the middle so you can get your own duvet and get into bed without interfering with the other person's

ittakes2 · 11/01/2020 17:44

We have super king bed and empiror duvet.

MatildaTheCat · 11/01/2020 17:52

When we upsized to SK we just bought all new bedding which was a bit of a pain but worth every penny.

We spend a large proportion of time in bed so having really decent, well fitting bedding is a sensible investment.

Of course you can try it and see but you won’t get the full benefit of. SK bed if the duvet is skimpy. I like to tuck myself in with mine so need it all.

SmallPinkBear · 11/01/2020 18:08

I have a super king duvet on a king bed as I like lots of duvet!!
There is a foot difference in a king and super king bed, there is no way a king would be big enough

wineandroses1 · 11/01/2020 18:15

We have a Superking size bed and I was becoming increasingly resentful that DH seemed to end up with more duvet and I (who likes to lie right on the edge of my side) would wake up feeling very cold as duvet had somehow moved more to his side! The solution was a lovely emperor duvet and covers from Soakandsleep.com. It is sooooooo lovely!

FusionChefGeoff · 11/01/2020 18:26

I'd go with 2 doubles on the SK then keep kingsize on kingsize bed.

But really, if you can afford a SK bed surely a new duvet is also within reach??

Seems like a completely pointless exercise to pay for the extra width of bed as you won't be able to use it as it won't have any covers on it!

BayandBlonde · 11/01/2020 18:33

You will obv need new fitted or flat sheets but I had my double duvet on my king size for years.

But then I didn't need to share my duvet, just me and the cats

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/01/2020 18:37

A superking duvet isn't that much more expensive and you can get bed sets from as little as £20 in asda.

Louiselouie0890 · 11/01/2020 18:38

Nope, if your sharing your further away so you will be fighting over the quijt. We ended up with two king size one each as we both love to curl up

Pollaidh · 11/01/2020 18:43

We went from a K to SK and found we could get away with continuing to use the Kingsize duvet in the summer (low tog), as we don't mind having an arm or leg sticking out to cool down. In winter though we decided to get a SK size duvet as obviously it's not so pleasant to find yourself uncovered.

The Ksize duvet looks ok on the SK bed.

If you've got an animal who sleeps between you, you might find you need the correct duvet size however, as they sort of pin the duvet down, leaving you with less duvet to play with.

elessar · 11/01/2020 18:43

To be honest I've never actually seen a SKS duvet...

I've got a SKS bed so we have sheets to fit, but the Duvet is King size. It's never been remotely a problem, overhangs both sides of the bed.

I find it enough of a pain in the arse making the bed with the KS so would not be bothered with a SKS duvet!

spurlingpipe · 11/01/2020 18:43

If you really don't want to get a new duvet then I'd put the two doubles on the sks.

No point getting a bigger bed if you're going to use the old duvet because you'll just have to squish together to both get under the old duvet anyway.

Legoandloldolls · 11/01/2020 18:44

I have a king quilt on the SK bed. It's fine. It only overhangs a few inches either side. If it's just two people in the bed it's fine as you dont have to sleep on the edge of the bed, you can be two foot in still miles from your partner.

But my dd sleeps with us on and off so I'm perched on the very edge while she kicks me in the head.

My thinking was putting a SK cover on would be a pita

stripesand · 11/01/2020 18:49

We do it, there's not a massive difference in size.

Asiama · 11/01/2020 18:53

We have a double duvet on our king size bed. We prefer it as we found our king size duvet too heavy as there was so much of it.
