AIBU to have a king size duvet on a SuperKing bed?

Have ordered a Superking bed to replace our king size.
The kingsize bed is going to go in our spare room instead of the double that is currently there.

Can I get away with continuing to use the existing king size duvet and covers?
Ditto just use the double duvet on the king size bed?

We have a double duvet each on our SKS. It’s brilliant.

I have a king divan base with double mattress and duvet Grin

Base was given to me as I couldn't afford a base and mine was broken so couldn't afford mattress etc either.
Makes a great kedge for my phone and tv remote Grin

I purposely bought a KS duvet for for SKS bed as I don’t like the duvet hanging down loads at the sides. It’s more than big enough! The replies in this thread have got me second guessing myself though!

gamerchick · 11/01/2020 18:58

Get a new duvet and covers. Spare duvets always come in handy.

RealBecca · 11/01/2020 19:26

It'll do. We have an old king size as a spare. Sometimes we use 2 double duvets...ugly as fuck but so deliciously comfy!

Elpheba · 11/01/2020 19:32

Another vote for super king bed, double duvet for me to wrap up in, single duvet for DH who gets hot. Spare pillow in the middle for DD when she inevitably joins us!

CottonSock · 11/01/2020 19:33

We have separate double duvets. Luxury. Plus I get my 1 tog and his is about 12.

Kanga83 · 11/01/2020 19:35

We have a SKS bed and two double duvets as we like different togs and it means I can snuggle into my duvet the way I like. We have a sks throw over the bed so when it's made up it doesn't look odd

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 11/01/2020 19:48

After what I've spent on this new bed, I'm too broke for new duvets!
Seriously, it's partially my reluctance to get rid of something (2 double duvets) that are relatively new and only used on a spare bed, and also thinking about wrestling with an even bigger and unwieldy duvet and cover! And the limited choice of SK covers (tho that's getting better)
I'll obviously be getting new sheets for the SKS bed but I'll wing it for a while as regards the duvets...

I'm a lone sleeper in a SKS bed

Me too Grin. DH is in the spare room in the King Size. We both sleep MUCH better like that.

LemonPrism · 11/01/2020 20:50

My king would barely touch the edges of my mums super king...

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/01/2020 20:53

No, it will be too small. I size up. My double has a king size duvet.

DinosaurFarmer · 11/01/2020 20:54

@WiddlinDiddlin I love the sound of the lurcher pasty - our lurcher isn't allowed to sleep on the bed as its not enough for her to be there or just have your hand on her, you have to constantly stroke, pat and adore her! Plus the fact that she's a barometer and starts panting and salivating if she senses a storm coming from 500 miles away - no chance of a good night's sleep! We do have a jack russell who digs in under the quilt to lie on my feet, a cat on the pillow and at least 1, sometimes 2 children so our SKS is very much needed and loved Grin

Not sure about the idea of KS quilt on SKS bed but we have a SKS quilt on ours at the moment and am very taken with the idea of separate quilts as per previous posters - husband and I stick to our respective sides as I can't stand being having people close to me or breathing on me when I sleep and we both hold our share of the quilt tightly so it goes taut so on the odd occasion when we don't have company as above we have a draughty space between us! We are also changing our SKS mattress for 2 singles side by side which is what we had before and so much less disturbance Grin

DinosaurFarmer · 11/01/2020 20:58

Those of you who have seperate quilts on beds, do you have matching covers or random ones? Grin

RandomMess · 11/01/2020 21:03

We have a single duvet each that overlap which means DH can't wake me up whipping then duvet off me or refusing to share.

The marriage saver was DC1 moving out, DH moved to her room so his snoring no longer wakes me up Wink

Still prefer my single wool duvet as easier to stick my feet out.

cinnabarmoth · 11/01/2020 21:08

I have a king size duvet on a super king bed, it's absolutely fine and covers both of us fine. It's more than enough to cover two people on a king size bed so unless you both lie right on opposite edges of a super king bed, surely it is plenty of duvet for two people.

fascinated · 11/01/2020 21:14

Use your 2 doubles with matching linen on the sk! That’s what I will now be doing - thanks to this thread , happy days!

WiddlinDiddlin · 14/01/2020 19:47

We have matching linen though if I am not in charge of laundry we can get a bit mismatched at times!

Lurcher pasty is a good foot warmer and inside a duvet, he doesn't give a stuff whats happening in the world - before the invention of the duvet pasty, he would have to have a grump and a grr if he heard ANYTHING... cat fight, fox rummaging, wind blowing.. so it has saved our sanity!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 14/03/2020 11:44

Not very exciting update but bed finally arrived and we decided to try the 2 single duvets from the spare room for a while ... and we are total converts!
2 singles are pretty much the same size as a Superking but much easier to wash, dry and change. I've just tried to put on King duvet cover on my own and it's all lopsided, I'll have to wait until DH comes home to grab a corner each and sort it out
Bed doesn't look as tidy made up but that's because the duvets are different thicknesses so don't lie the same
