To think this is selfish and unfair behaviour?

Freezing cold day, rainy and windy, and two guys are standing IN the bus shelter smoking.. Which means I have to stand outside because I have a bad cold/chest and don't want to breathe it in.. I can't stand the smell, it's repulsive.. I don't want to end up smelling of smoke, which is what happens.

AIBU to think it is selfish and unfair behaviour on their part?

Sorry op your thread has been de-railed.

itsgettingweird · 11/01/2020 18:08

Retro. If someone was smoking inside a cafe would you say it's fair game because someone on the next table had a cold?
No! Because they are different. People go into enclosed spaces with virus because in life we cannot avoid them. They don't do into them smoking because that's a choice.

However I'm actually looking forward to going into work on Monday and suggesting everyone with the common cold takes time off until they are well. I can assure you more people will complain about that as we are a public service Grin

Topseyt · 11/01/2020 18:11

Retro, you are embarrassing yourself, and you have a very obvious agenda. Nobody is trolling.

Owlypants · 11/01/2020 18:15

op your thread appears to have been hijacked. Retroflex why not start your own thread?

goodwinter · 11/01/2020 18:21

Oh Mumsnet, what are you like..

OP, YANBU. I'm a smoker and would never smoke in a bus stop, it's incredibly rude and I don't want to inflict my gross habit on anyone else.

Cherrysoup · 11/01/2020 18:31

@Retroflex

but she does know she's contagious? So your point is invalid

As was rather clear in my post, I was speaking generically. People-generally-cannot be expected to stay at home just in case they come across anyone who is immunosupressed. My point was perfectly valid.

Topseyt · 11/01/2020 18:36

Retroflex thinks nobody else's points are valid.

Biancadelrioisback · 11/01/2020 18:38

What a weird thread...

Marmalady75 · 11/01/2020 18:46

Going back to the original problem - the law in Scotland states that as long as the bus shelter has at least 50% solid walls then people cannot legally smoke inside it. HTH

Wether you want to challenge someone over it or not is down to how brave you feel.

doublebarrellednurse · 11/01/2020 18:53

@Retroflex if you are sick also why are you not staying at home? Taking all the precautions you can to protect yourself and all. Most people who are contagious don't even know it for several days before symptoms appear.

OP - YANBU. I have asthma and this sort of thing kicks it off. I tend to stand and cough next to the people smoking 🚬 and make them feel uncomfortable for their shitty choices in life but that's just me.

Where did you get the idea retroflex is sick? You do know that most immunocompromised people are not actually sick, right?

BeTheRabbit · 11/01/2020 21:21

Precisely.

@Retroflex clearly I wasn't directing my comment to the OP, I was directing it to you, in response to your comments on this thread. A "bad cold" is subjective". What may be a bad cold to me may not be one to another. Either way, it's a cold which thousands of people up and down the country have every week. Life cannot be put on hold for this. If your immune system issues are that serious then you have to take precautions to protect yourself.

No one is jumping on you. A couple of people responded to you quite reasonably and you went off on one. Clearly you have 'issues' and either enjoy arguing with folk or you just can't accept what everyone is telling you, in regards to you being completely unreasonable and find it difficult to manage your temper.

Have a nice day.

Retroflex · 12/01/2020 09:26

@mlou32 what "issues" are you implying I have? I certainly don't "find it difficult to manage my temper" either... Give your head a wobble, build a bridge and get over yourself... It's been over 15 hours since I stopped responding to the bs, and you're starting it again? Clearly you are the one who likes arguing... Hmm

Mlou32 · 12/01/2020 09:49

@retroflex I think it's you who needs to give your head a wobble... fighting with anyone and everyone, hilarious. As I said, issues.

Retroflex · 12/01/2020 09:51

I believe that you have issues with self control and abusive behaviour... 🙄

aroundtheworldyet · 12/01/2020 11:49

This is batshit.
10/10 mumsnet!

YouTheCat · 12/01/2020 11:54

How is that abusive? Confused

HanginWithMyGnomies · 14/01/2020 19:47

Came back to look for an update and see @Retroflex is still as batshit as ever 😂🙄

Retroflex · 14/01/2020 19:50

@hangin I'm not "batshit" but you must be incredibly sad and lonely to want to comment after so long...
