To think this friend is being ridiculous

lastqueenofscotland · 11/01/2020 12:55

I’ve got a friend who brings her three year old to most things, including when occasionally inappropriate. But usually it’s ok, she is the type to kick off when she gets invited to a wedding and her daughter doesn’t but otherwise it’s ok.

We all thought it would be fun to go to a beer festival and bought tickets about a month ago. It starts at 7pm in a city centre on a Friday. She has since found out it is (I’d think obviously) no under 18s due to licensing.
She is kicking off sideways about this.
Aibu to think she’s being bloody ridiculous and to tell her so!

OP posts:
MaeveDidIt · 11/01/2020 15:38

She's nuts.

ohwheniknow · 11/01/2020 15:45

I'd ask her quietly what the DH does that means the 3yo cannot be left in his presence

Hmm. Me too.

PlanDeRaccordement · 11/01/2020 15:56

She needs to cut the umbilical cord. I know most mums have trouble leaving a 6-9mo old with another adult (even the dad) because “mum knows best” but to have that extend to age 3 speaks of an anxiety disorder.

kingkuta · 11/01/2020 16:07

She has messaged the organisers. Said it’s ridiculous the event isn’t more inclusive
Is she generally a bit thick, otherwise I'd be worried about her mental health tbh. What sort of mother would expose their toddler to a load of pissed adults at a beer festival all night. As a friend are you not able to ask her what the fuck she is thinking?

Wonkybanana · 11/01/2020 16:09

You're more tolerant than I would be right there.

Well, duh, beer festival in no under 18s shocker!
She is being utterly ridiculous.
Why the hell would she want to take a 3 year old to a Friday night beer festival anyway, talk about an inappropriate place to take them!
I mean, I have kids and I love beer festival type events, but at that age I'd have had to say "thanks, I'd have loved to come but don't have the childcare, maybe catch up another time?"

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 11/01/2020 16:20

OK, just seen this Grin

WTAF lol. I can just imagine the utter eyerolls the person at the other end of the message was sending her back Grin

FourDecades · 11/01/2020 16:33

@lastqueenofscotland so what have you and the rest of your group said/done when she brings the child to other occasions?

I personally would pay no interest in the child or entertain her, especially as l would have escaped from my own for a night out.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 11/01/2020 16:35

As a group you all need to say something, personally if I am having a night out I do not want children there.

If its a family event or similar etc... then of course but clearly shes on drugs!

Noshowlomo · 11/01/2020 16:43

Warra knob! Just tell her she’s fb ring ridiculous!

MintyMabel · 11/01/2020 16:46

A 3 year old should really be in bed at 7pm - eh? That's bonkers

It might not suit your household and that’s absolutely fine if it works for you, but given at 3 they need about 11 or 12 hours sleep, having a 3 year old in bed at 7 is hardly bonkers. Plenty of people have pre-schoolers in bed at 7.

yorkshirebloke1 · 11/01/2020 16:47

Gosh, the organisers have not sorted out a creche or a children's entertainer for this beer festival? What an oversight, you would think they were trying to discourage people bringing their infants wouldn't you?

Your friend is an idiot OP.

NameChangeNugget · 11/01/2020 16:51

YANBU.

She sounds like she has a kangaroo loose in the top paddock

YouJustDoYou · 11/01/2020 16:52

Some people can't accept life is different post-kids.

MilesHuntsWig · 11/01/2020 16:53

Your friend is delusional

MulticolourMophead · 11/01/2020 17:00

She has a husband who is a great dad and often bemoans that fact he is hardly ever allowed to have his daughter unsupervised

She clearly has issues. And the dad could do more by insisting on having his own child.

And I'd like to know what inappropriate times she's brought the child to previously. Personally, I would get fed up of a child being dragged along all the time and say something.

Winterwoollies · 11/01/2020 17:06

Is she the sort of person who thinks everyone is as impressed by and besotted with her child as she is? I can to stand people like that.

BlueMoon1103 · 11/01/2020 17:24

Not an appropriate event for a 3 year old. YANBU.

alfagirl73 · 11/01/2020 17:34

She sounds like the sort of parent who thinks every event should be all about her kid... and then enjoys the drama of being outraged when events aren't "child-friendly" and therefore won't revolve around her child. She is being ridiculous - obviously a licensed evening event like that is not tailored towards children. It may come as a shock to her but there are lots of grown adults in the world who want to enjoy a relaxed child-free evening and/or visit places, events etc... which aren't all about kids. Seems to me she needs to a) grow up and b) make a choice - either she learns to allow her other half to look after his own child unsupervised or she needs to accept she will will have to forfeit attending certain events that aren't going to be appropriate for her child. She cannot expect the world to revolve around her kid and the sooner she realises that it won't, the better for everyone!

isabellerossignol · 11/01/2020 17:36

I wasn't commenting on what works for other people, I was commenting on the fact that the poster had stated that a 3 year old should be in bed by 7, as if it was an absolute fact. You know, something up there along with 'babies should sleep on their backs', and 'toddlers shouldn't be left in the house alone'. Not one particular poster's preference.

Presumably the people who have their 3 year olds in bed before 7pm have one parent at home, or have a nanny or something. Because when I got home from work at 6.30 that would only have allowed me 30 minutes to cook dinner, do bath, play a bit, read a few stories etc, which seems unrealistic.

MovingBriskyOn · 11/01/2020 18:19

@NameChangeNugget - what a fabulous expression!!!

Are you in Oz? Do you have to say it in an Aussie accent?

CapnSquirrel · 11/01/2020 18:26

It's fairly negligent to expose a child to a booze festival IMO, your friend sounds bonkers. And a questionable parent...

ALongHardWinter · 11/01/2020 18:30

She wants to take a 3 year old to a beer festival? Sounds like she's a bit of a loon if you ask me.

needanewnamechange · 11/01/2020 18:48

She must be the stupidest person to bring a child to a beer festival wtf Hmm

NameChangeNugget · 11/01/2020 19:01

@MovingBriskyOn

I did say it, in the accent. Worked out there for 4 years, in the 90’s. A colleague once said it out there, it cracked me up and I’ve used it ever since Grin
