To think this friend is being ridiculous

I’ve got a friend who brings her three year old to most things, including when occasionally inappropriate. But usually it’s ok, she is the type to kick off when she gets invited to a wedding and her daughter doesn’t but otherwise it’s ok.

We all thought it would be fun to go to a beer festival and bought tickets about a month ago. It starts at 7pm in a city centre on a Friday. She has since found out it is (I’d think obviously) no under 18s due to licensing.
She is kicking off sideways about this.
Aibu to think she’s being bloody ridiculous and to tell her so!

Could be attachment issues. She may not feel comfortable with leaving her child with anyone else.

Either that or she does just want to be the victim. Maybe both of those at once.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 11/01/2020 14:40

Does she never consider that perhaps her friends don’t want a three year old tagging along to every single night out and social event?

I don't think people like that ever actually consider any other person. Not even her own husband it would appear!

BruceAndNosh · 11/01/2020 14:45

Why on earth would a three year old want to go to a Beer Festival?
Most 3 year olds prefer cider Grin

MerryDeath · 11/01/2020 14:47

wow Confused id be just... not inviting her for that level of idiocy

FullOfJellyBeans · 11/01/2020 14:48

I would just matter of factly say that you all assumed it was over 18's only as it's a drinking event that wouldn't interest kids anyway.

Iloveacurry · 11/01/2020 14:49

A 3 year old should really be in bed at 7pm. She is being ridiculous.

Ouchaheadinmybehind · 11/01/2020 14:51

She has messaged the organisers. Said it’s ridiculous the event isn’t more inclusive. She’s been moaning that it wasn’t absolutely clear that when it said over 18s it meant that excluded very young children too

I bet they printed it out and stuck it on the wall for everyone to have a laugh 🤣 at least she has brightened someone’s weekend up.

Did they reply? How on earth did you keep a straight face when she told you that?

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 11/01/2020 14:53

She is an idiot and sounds like she is using her child as some sort of emotional crutch, she should get some counselling.

MiniGuinness · 11/01/2020 14:53

From now on are you going to only choose events that are strictly over 18? You may find it a bit of a treat not having to put up with her toddler on your nights out!

TidyDancer · 11/01/2020 14:53

Someone this stupid will not realise that people possibly don't want the child around at every event, even if it was technically acceptable. I suspect it will take an en masse revolt to make her understand and then the friendship would be done.

Geschwister4 · 11/01/2020 14:54

At 3 all my kids did at 7pm was bath, pj's , bed. They would have been awful if I had taken them out at that time of night, just overtired and fractious .There is nothing for a child that age to do at a beer festival! She really is being crazy. I think you are within your rights to point that out to her!

Stonerosie67 · 11/01/2020 14:55

Could be attachment issues. She may not feel comfortable with leaving her child with anyone else.

Then she doesn't go to the festival. She can't have it all ways up.

billy1966 · 11/01/2020 14:57

OP, what is the attraction of being friends with an idiot who kicks off about things?

Daftodil · 11/01/2020 15:09

Is this for real? This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! 😂😂😂

Perhaps all the real ale drinkers should email the local soft play centres and tell them they should serve pints at 9am to be more inclusive to the drinking community!

viques · 11/01/2020 15:09

dear OP, in case you and your (sensible) friends want to plan another outing The Chelsea Flower Show doesn't allow little children in either.

Wink
Daftodil · 11/01/2020 15:13

Plus, I'm sure she would kick off even more if someone slipped on a beer puddle and dropped a pint on her daughter's head or had a drunken, expletive filled rant in the presence of her daughter's delicate ears.

DobbinOnTheLA · 11/01/2020 15:17

I'd like to know more about the occasional inappropriate things she's brought DD to previously.

Guitarlessons · 11/01/2020 15:24

Tell her to piss off and don’t invite her anywhere again

Dozer · 11/01/2020 15:26

Good on the organisers! I like it when DC are barred.

Equanimitas · 11/01/2020 15:26

Well, her message probably brightened up the organisers' day. It must have caused major hilarity when they received it.

Cupcakey · 11/01/2020 15:27

She sounds like she is very used to getting her own way so her natural reaction is to throw a tantrum... bonkers!! Not a cat in hells chance I would contemplate taking my children to it. It wouldn't a nightmare and end in over tired tears lol

squeekums · 11/01/2020 15:29

WTAF
She sounds like a moron, one who shouldnt be drinking.

When she gets too drunk, does the toddler drive?

isabellerossignol · 11/01/2020 15:29

A 3 year old should really be in bed at 7pm. eh? That's bonkers

She is being ridiculous. This bit I agree with though!

JosefKeller · 11/01/2020 15:31

that's MN. 3 year old apparently have tea at 4pm, are in bed at 5pm and parents moan they are up at 5am. It's at thing. Bonkers but it is!
