Oh God help. On a date and can't eat the food (lighthearted!!)

On a date with a lovely fella who is a good cook. We've been out before and had a fab time.

Just been presented with a plate of steak and the smell of it is turning my stomach. There's no way I can eat it.

He's in the kitchen (faffing). No pets about to slip it to... Should I shove it in my bag?

Coming back, beb

This thread made me cringe. I can't imagine being on a date with someone, not wanting to eat the food and so taking the time to post on MN for advice on what to do

OP, you need to grow up. If you really weren't able to just say to him that the steak smelled a bit funny then surely you could have just said you felt unwell and lost your appetite. If you thought the steak was off you should not have eaten it

artio0 · 11/01/2020 06:57

Lol... Was it some extra long aged steak by any chance? I find they smell and taste absolutely horrendous and prefer a simple Aldi steak for £3... But then I'm not a foodie.

AlaskaElfForGin · 11/01/2020 07:01

@usernamepp careful - I had a comment of mine deleted a couple of days ago for suggesting a poster should grow up. It seems that nowadays on MN you can tell someone that they're being a cunt but not that they should grow up. 😂

Alaska there is very little beyond the banal and ultra politically correct that can be said on MN these days. It’s a tedious minefield where lively stimulating debate is virtually impossible because the parameters of what can be said/thought/discussed are narrowing by the month.

It’s fucking depressing and stifling.

MrsGrindah · 11/01/2020 07:53

Its not like I planned on chucking my guts up.

Well you did bring it on yourself by eating something that made you feel sick just by the smell! I don’t know what possessed you.

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 11/01/2020 07:53

At least he was understanding. It could have been far worse - but he sounds a good one :)

I once panic-ordered at a restaurant very early on in my relationship and asked for beef stroganoff. As the waiter walked away I bloody realised that it's (obviously) a mushroom dish and I fucking hate mushrooms. Was too embarrassed to call the waiter back so had to just go with it. When it turned up it had about 3 pieces of meat in it and was heaving in mushrooms. I had to admit my mistake to my date and he couldn't even swap meals as he also hates mushrooms (he still offered though, bless him).
He still takes the piss out of me every time we see that dish on a menu. And we never went back to that restaurant.

Try taking your clothes off to distract him. Usually works! Grin

We had an off steak once. It smelled like wet dog. Disgusting.

It would put me off him!!

You're so right, it's such a shame. And completely ridiculous to be honest.

newlifenewme2020 · 11/01/2020 08:43

My gosh the bitches are out in force on this thread.

Jomarchsburntskirt · 11/01/2020 08:56

@Ariaty I still giggle to myself about the poo landing on the conservatory roof😂

Justkeeprollingalong · 11/01/2020 09:03

@Ariaty Poo out of the window??? Link please!

StarlightLady · 11/01/2020 09:37

Some people seem to have totally overlooked that the subject line says “lighthearted”.

God I agree so much with this.

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2020 09:50

YABU being on your phone whilst at the table. It's incredibly rude. If I were him I wouldn't ask you on another date due to that alone. Sorry.

LannieDuck · 11/01/2020 09:51

Did his smell whiffy too? Or did he give you the one he thought smelled off?

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2020 10:05

justkeeprolling I have a feeling that was a story I added to a thread once. It happened to someone I know who was unable to flush the poo away whilst they were a guest at someone's house. After many and several unsuccessful attempts ti flush, the offending poo was fished out and thrown out of the window, only to land on the conservatory roof where the dining table was, with everyone at the table eating!!! Blush

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2020 10:10

The conservatory had a clear glass pitched roof....

I agree, it's like a bitches shop.

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2020 11:11

Ha ha, Bitches Shop is a good nickname for Mumsnet some days! Grin

QuestionableMouse · 11/01/2020 11:22

Not commenting on the phone use again because it's pointless. 🤷🏻‍♀️

There were three bits of steak in the pack. We had a look at the last bit this morning and it smells like blood. Really strong. Looks fine, isn't sticky like off meat can be, just stinks of blood. It was fairly expensive too.

I didn't actually eat any of it. I cut a small bit (literally 20p sized) and put it in my mouth... Then chaos ensued.
