On a date with a lovely fella who is a good cook. We've been out before and had a fab time.

Just been presented with a plate of steak and the smell of it is turning my stomach. There's no way I can eat it.

He's in the kitchen (faffing). No pets about to slip it to... Should I shove it in my bag?

If it smells bad rather than just bloody then it must be off.

What else is on the plate?

Eat some of the rest, chop the steak up, offer him a piece of your steak “I’m so full, I can’t eat all this” or “OMG you have to try my steak” and shove half of it into his plate?

Then you can hide the rest in the remains of your food and hope dessert is good?

Yes I'm using my phone in front of him... He's okay with it, thinks I'm helping a uni friend.

Tell him you'll help him serve it at the table and carry the plates over and pretend to fall over and drop them on the floor, then offer to buy takeaway :)

Tell him you have food poisoning from steak last year and still can't face it, offer it to him.

Tell him you find a man who can cook a huge turn off then shag him, that's bound to cause a distraction to avoid eating the steak 😉

Love steak usually but it smells awful to me.

If you love steak usually then I think it's off. A couple of weeks ago I found some old steak in a friend's fridge and the smell was definitely very distinctly 'wrong'. Rancid would be the word I'd use.

I had this at a pub restaurant forFILs significant birthday. First steak came, it smelt off, I sent it back. Second steak came, that smelt off too, so I literally nibbled the edges and gave up on having an actual dinner - if it had just been us out for dinner I would have made a bigger fuss but as FIL was paying I didn’t want to turn it into a ‘thing’.

He'll bin you when he gets fed up with you being on the phone (to a mate) during a meal he's cooked for you so I wouldn't worry about telling him his steak stinks.

I don't think I could sit messing about on my phone while eating dinner someone had cooked for me, off steak or not. It's so rude! Just tell him you think it tastes a bit funny, and put your phone away.

It could be a super posh aged steak. They sometimes have a game type odour but usually taste good.

Ask him about them ?
