Oh God help. On a date and can't eat the food (lighthearted!!)

On a date with a lovely fella who is a good cook. We've been out before and had a fab time.

Just been presented with a plate of steak and the smell of it is turning my stomach. There's no way I can eat it.

He's in the kitchen (faffing). No pets about to slip it to... Should I shove it in my bag?

Coming back, beb

Are you wearing long sleeves?

😉

Zoflorabore · 10/01/2020 19:43

Toast? Toast! This isn’t going well op.

CassidyStone · 10/01/2020 19:44

So you've thrown up, you're crying, and you're still on your phone? The relationship is doomed. Why on earth couldn't you have simply said 'this smells off' and offer to go halves on a takeaway? Surely updating Mumsnet isn't that important?

AlaskaElfForGin · 10/01/2020 19:44

FFS. Put your phone away.

Can people do nothing without a phone in their hands now?

AraGrand · 10/01/2020 19:44

The meat was gone off obviously. Hell or high water wouldn't make me eat something that stank. Why the hell didn't you open your mouth and say 'this meat is off' rather than eating and puking.

HopeItComesWithBatteries · 10/01/2020 19:44

Oops we’ve moved on,

And relaxxxxx...,

Justmuddlingalong · 10/01/2020 19:45

Perhaps spend more time communicating with each other, rather than posting on here.

Morgan12 · 10/01/2020 19:45

Why aren't you getting a takeaway instead of toast?

How can he have stood there and cooked off steak without knowing 🤔

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/01/2020 19:46

Come on folks. Op is regular poster and doesn’t like to make a scene. Please don’t expect everyone to be able to say it like it is just because it comes easily to you.

redbullgivesyouflings · 10/01/2020 19:46

Stuff like this never makes sense, surely if you like someone or want a relationship with them you need to actually be able to be open and honest and feel comfortable having conversations. If the blimmin beef can't be spoken about then good luck to you both tbh.

There are threads across this site where people don't seem to be able to ask their DH/DW/Best friend of 50 years simple questions so nothing surprises me anymore.

HopeItComesWithBatteries · 10/01/2020 19:46

For future reference, women have a much stronger sense of smell than men. Something for us all to remember.

northernlittledonkey · 10/01/2020 19:46

Yes, you'll laugh about this in time. Glad he's thinking rationally toast is a wonderful meal anytime of the day!

TigerOnATrain · 10/01/2020 19:47

@QuestionableMouse

Literally, spent 5 minutes reading this thread that I will NEVER get back. Confused

HopeItComesWithBatteries · 10/01/2020 19:47

Maybe you’ll laugh about this in years to come?

bobstersmum · 10/01/2020 19:47

I've had a couple of off steaks recently, in date too, but knew as soon as I opened them, they were slimy and smelled horrible. Can't believe he cooked them lol, did you say he's a good cook!! Send him out for a curry.

redbullgivesyouflings · 10/01/2020 19:48

Op is regular poster and doesn’t like to make a scene.

OP has definitely made a scene in the form of snotty tears!

NemophilistRebel · 10/01/2020 19:49

Wow - I couldn’t imagine opening a packet of questionable meat and just serving it up without a second opinion if I wasn’t sure it was ok

He should be feeling awful for making you sick from that

MrsGrindah · 10/01/2020 19:49

Come on folks. Op is regular poster and doesn’t like to make a scene. Please don’t expect everyone to be able to say it like it is just because it comes easily to you.

Eh.?So we are supposed to recognise regular posters and remember their back stories before responding? Nobody has been mean but it does sound a bit of a silly situation

AdaColeman · 10/01/2020 19:50

I don’t think much of his home management, rancid meat and no bread available. He’s not a keeper.

TheCatsWhisker · 10/01/2020 19:53

*Have you been to the Sistine chapel recently?

Seriously though, you let him waste his time making something you were never going to eat. It's quite rude.

Although, he is also a bit odd for cooking something he thought was a bit iffy.

Sounds like a match made in heaven!

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 10/01/2020 19:53

But he ate his steak...perhaps he should've stayed near the loo instead of going to the shop. Hope he's got a strong stomach!

AraGrand · 10/01/2020 19:53

Any of the vacuum packed meat or fish I've bought from Lidl has been off. It's fucking annoying, but I wouldn't risk poisoning myself. A chicken from Morrisons too. If you don't freeze instantly, all meat seems to go off within 24 to 48 hours.

CassidyStone · 10/01/2020 19:55

H'es gone to buy a loaf of bread to make TOAST has he? What was he serving with the steak? Salad? Veggies? Potatoes? Can't he buy something to go with that instead? Or even push the boat out and get a takeaway?

I said it before, this relationship is doomed.

bobstersmum · 10/01/2020 19:57

This has reminded me of a holiday I went on with one of my first boyfriends, we were in Greece and at a lovely clifftop restaurant. I ordered prawn cocktail (assuming it would be like my mum made at Xmas) it came and I nearly died. It was a tall glass, with a giant prawn hooked on the side with its eyeballs and feelers still on. I couldn't even look at it let alone eat it and I was scared of offending the restaurant, I kept asking my boyfriend to take it off me and he kept telling me not to be so silly and eat it. The waiter kept coming back to see if we were enjoying our food and I kept sort of poking it with my fork and nodding that it was lovely. After a while I was properly sweating worrying about this giant prawn and how I was going to get rid of it and I think my bf had enough of me fretting and he reached over, grabbed the prawn and flung it over the side while we watched it in slow motion sail through the air back into the sea below, just as the waiter appeared, astounded to see that I'd eaten all of my giant prawn, shell and all.

MuskyFoxyStoat · 10/01/2020 20:01

Bob you should have ripped the little fuckers head off and sucked his brains out! That's how you eat a big juicy prawn.
