AIBU to think there’s no justification for eating meat and dairy any more?

People are educated now. People know that eating meat and dairy is disastrous for the planet. People know it’s causing an unprecedented climate crisis. People know it causes untold cruelty to animals.

So why are people still doing it? There is a vegan substitute for virtually every meat and dairy product you can think of. What is going on here?

The number of people I’ve seen on social media breaking their hearts over Australia shooting wild camels and horses because they drink too much water while still eating beef blows my mind.

@SaaauuusierGrrr

You. Sound. Crackers.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 23:27

Oh and don't get me started on the deceitful propaganda of 'Dominion'. People are so gullible to believe that, and don't bother to factcheck or cross-reference.

Runmybathforme · 09/01/2020 23:28

You sound like a right laugh.

aroundtheworldyet · 09/01/2020 23:29

@SaphfireRose
What’s dominion

AnyMinuteNow · 09/01/2020 23:33

No.

You watch it. Not interested. Stop with your bullyboy tactics.

If you think it's disgusting watching people, then stop and wind yer neck in.

Not angry, not scared to look at whats going on in the meat industry, and it's certainly not about mouth pleasure ha!

If you listen to people they are not happy about compromising their health living on highly processed foods which many have allergies to, and still then need to take supplements to replace those things we have evolved to need to survive from our diet of mixed sources, omnivorous.

We don't eat necessarily balanced diets, and there does need to be massive cut back on the levels of meat consumed, but don't pretend to anyone that just because you're vegan your healthy, as thats a lie.

aroundtheworldyet · 09/01/2020 23:33

Oh I just googled it.
Americans are fucked up. I’m not saying we are great.
But ask yourself. Why don’t Americans eat lamb?
It’s the only animal that is very hard to mass farm.

Patsypie · 09/01/2020 23:35

Wow it must be amazing to be as good as you! How do you polish your halo? Lemon juice & vinegar?

LastTrainEast · 09/01/2020 23:36

Cruelty to vegetables is not something to brag about.

Also my species evolved to eat a varied diet and attempts to narrow it are risky.

And I like the taste.

aroundtheworldyet · 09/01/2020 23:36

Look we all need to eat less meat. And do it ethically.
I don’t condone any battery farming
That’s what needs to end

AnyMinuteNow · 09/01/2020 23:36

Americans eat bleached chicken and have horrific mass animal farming practices. I don't want any of it.

Our farming and slaughter practices are amongst the highest in the world.

Thats hilarious that OP ran off faster than usain bolt Grin

Patsypie · 09/01/2020 23:37

You're exactly the type of twat who puts me off

Trewser · 09/01/2020 23:38

Vegan men are not sexy.

MiniMum97 · 09/01/2020 23:38

Vegan substitutes are processed crap - edible food like substances. The worst type of food you can eat for your health. I also like enough Choline, iron and b12 in my diet. Pretty essential for life. Difficult to get/absorb from non meat sources.

MiniMum97 · 09/01/2020 23:40

Soy milk is v had for your thyroid and also contains phyto estrogens.

SaaauuusierGrrr · 09/01/2020 23:40

@PPopsicle Yes, people who think animal abuse is morally wrong are obvs batshit mental.

CBsDad · 09/01/2020 23:42

@Obviouspretzel

And the vegan substitutes have no environmental impact do they? Such as soy?

Interestingly apparently there is so much soya fed to animals that by eating soya you actually consume less soya. Crazy!

Instagrump · 09/01/2020 23:43

"Why all the hate and rudeness to warlords vegans"
Because, You.

Instagrump · 09/01/2020 23:44

*towards.

To warlords is a bit much. You aren't that scary.

DecisioNN · 09/01/2020 23:44

If everyone on the entire planet went vegan as of midnight that wouldn’t solve the worlds carbon footprint.

The materialistic need for the newest gadget, the most luxurious holiday, the most expensive cars and that’s not to mention the fuel needed and emissions released as a consequence.

We are areseholes. Humans are arseholes. In a few years, this planet will cease to exist in the way it did before the industrial revolution and society throw away attitude. Plastic this, plastic that.

We are consumer arseholes!! And I include myself in that too!! And one day, when it’s too late, we’ll look at what we’ve helped created and wish we could turn back time!!

Windmyonlyfriend · 09/01/2020 23:47

Educated people know that we need meat and dairy

I’m genuinely curious - why do we need it? There are many examples of highly successful athletes, at the top of their game, who follow a vegan diet. So it can’t be for health reasons.

I can understand people saying they want it, but why do educated people know that we need it?

Trewser · 09/01/2020 23:48

If there are vegan athletes they will have not been vegan for long. And the amount of supplements they'd have to take would be scary.

MiniMum97 · 09/01/2020 23:50

I wish uneducated moronic carnitas would stop pretending to themselves that there’s a high-welfare way to kill baby animals.

You are such a hypocrite! So we shouldn't kill ""baby animals" for food but it's ok to actively reintroduce wolves to kill red deer? How does that work. Why take humans out of the food chain but it's ok for the rest of he animal kingdom to "kill baby animals"? Why is one active choice by us results in the death of "baby animals" ok but another isn't.

Is your argument environmental or because you don't like cute things being eaten?

JamesBlonde1 · 09/01/2020 23:50

Where is the vegan alternative for a juicy steak and chips?!

DeeCeeCherry · 09/01/2020 23:50

Why does anyone have to justify what they eat?

Presumably some people eat meat and dairy because they like it. & they're not forcing you to eat it are they, so...

TiddyTid · 09/01/2020 23:52

The best thing to do is buy locally sourced meat and dairy. A pipe dream to most of us, however.

I don't believe vegan is the way to do. You need animals to graze land to keep the soil full of nutrients, as long as the grazing is managed properly.
