Ok ok, we've had loads of threads. I accept their decision to want to resign from public duties - always though Harry might do that ...

BUT ... why should we pay for them? How come they get to keep Frogmore cottage, which WE the tax payer have paid for? And we have just paid over 2 million for them to renovate it???

If they want to go their seperate ways from Royal duties, FINE...... BUT , if they do that, they surely should relinquish the perks (i.e. the house, cars, money that comes with the job) and do what the rest of us do - earn their own.

But to be fair, Meghan and Harry already did their part of the job when they had their wedding paid for and when they renovated their cottage.

Their mental health , their reputation, their family ties, their relationship... all suffered a great deal as a justification for our taxes at that time..

So I say it’s fair to start a fresh new page now and not be settling old accounts

At least they’re helping the tax payer in setting precedent for future royals to slim down the monarchy and reconsider using tax payer money

I don't mind keeping a slimmed down status quo RF, better than a President Trump and will cost the same in buildings , security, travel and elections.

I don't want to pay for Harry who doesn't want to do the job, who isn't very high on the academic ability scale to lecture me on his trendy luxury beliefs as if he is Plato, and to top it all for him to not take his own advice. NeedtogotoBedNow - whatever your station in life there will always be people financially better off, it's a fact of life. Why be resentful of it? Are you unhappy with your lot? I wouldn't swap my semi and my pension for the life of the royal family.

Jealousy is an ugly emotion.

Prince Harry is what he is, born into it and knows no different but he does his best.

Frogmore Cottage was renovated by the Queen who is extremely rich. Most parents and grandparents do what they can for their offspring and it means as much whatever they give.

Keeping Frogmore is no different to people owning a holiday home here or abroad of which there are many, for example my neighbours, I've never felt any resentment towards them for that - good luck to them. When Harry and family come back here for things, which I've no doubt they will, they'll need a convenient and private place to stay so why not their own place?

You shouldn't allow yourself to be so easily manipulated by the press.

Have a moment of rational thought. If we're going to have a royal family, we're going to have to pay for them. We can't force them to perform royal duties and since we've forced this position on them (prevented them from working, ensured they'll need a security team for the rest of their life, completely invaded their privacy) then we'll have to continue to pay for them if they choose to resign. What do you suggest they do otherwise? They can't work a normal job because of who they are, they can't live in a normal house as it would be unsafe and cause issues for the entire area they chose to live in.

You need to grow up. Harry had no choice in the family he was born in. Neither feel like putting up with all the racist crap Meghan is subjected to.

Why should we as a nation pay? We put him in a privileged cage from birth. He needs security because we supported royalty and we made him famous. It's a blinking mess

The lot of them should stop being 'royals' and get on with becoming financially independent citizens. Their antics are just a royal PITA for everybody.

Worryingly there will be two other expensively kept pointless layabouts thinking there are two vacancies to fill - Beatrice and Eugenie.

Nothing has changed in the world since Andrew 'stepped back' as he wasn't fulfilling any useful role the country needed taxpayers money thrown at. Nothing changed when Philip 'stepped back'. Nothing will change when Harry and Meghan 'step back'.

Whole expensive pantomime is a fraud on a grand scale and taxpayers are being led by the nose to think they are a necessary expense.

We just need to get rid of the royals. It's completely inhumane. I'd much rather be poor and free and private than be born into their situation. Horrible way to live and money certainly doesn't compensate for the complete lack of freedom and privacy. I'd have had a break down long ago in that situation.

Honestly, it seems like an excellent plan to me. He’s 6th in line to the throne so he’s not needed to secure the monarchy. He has watched his dad waste his life hanging around waiting for his granny to die. That’s no way to live. His dad has already made it known that when he is king he will be cutting back on all the royal hangers on and Harry is acting ahead of that while he is still young enough to forge a new path. I think it’s a good idea for him and Megan to step away from the current establishment and find a new way to do things.

All that being said he is the son and brother of 2 future kings and so will still be a prime target for terrorists so it’s inevitable that money will be spent on protecting him and his family. He might as well live in the already refurbed and secure Frogsmore Cottage as have it stand empty. It’s not as if they will put a homeless family up there otherwise.

The thing is, is that the royal family are living to grand old ages so it's simply not feasible to support all the minor royals, see how useless Andrew and his lot are. By the time Will rises to be king, his children will probably also have children. There will be tonnes of them! Harry is setting a direction now while he is still young and able to change his life.

I suspect people are asking what the hell the matter is because you stated you are angry about 2 people who have absolutely zero impact on your life or affect on you in any way shape or form!
