Ok ok, we've had loads of threads. I accept their decision to want to resign from public duties - always though Harry might do that ...

BUT ... why should we pay for them? How come they get to keep Frogmore cottage, which WE the tax payer have paid for? And we have just paid over 2 million for them to renovate it???

If they want to go their seperate ways from Royal duties, FINE...... BUT , if they do that, they surely should relinquish the perks (i.e. the house, cars, money that comes with the job) and do what the rest of us do - earn their own.

I can't get too worked up about this, but if I was struggling to pay the rent and put food on the table whilst working full time I would probably be more annoyed reading about it.

To be fair, Harry didn't ask to be born into his family. If he wants out, but will still inevitably need security etc because of who he is, something he can't change, then I think we have to be flexible about what that looks like.

Andrew will be loving all this takes the heat off him well and truly.

Frogmore isn't theirs. It's still part of the Windsor estate, and they can live in it indefinitely (as long as the Queen continues to give permission)

Though of course whether they can is another matter. They said they weren't fast-tracking the Duchess' naturalisation, so there's a limit to how long she can spend out of the country without losing right of abode.

Now, no-one's likely to come and arrest and deport her; but they really can't obviously flout the rules without backlash.

So perhaps theynwill be spending less time away than their announcement suggests? Or fast-tracking will be included in discussions for new arrangements?

They get most of their current funding from their dad via duchy of Cornwall. I wonder how the tenants in that area feel about that.

They’ve been treated crap by the press, but on the other hand we don’t fawn over celebs (they’ve become celebs).

They’ll never get the adoration they feel they’re entitled to, but they may well get that, and privacy, elsewhere. Makes sense for their family. They’ll be able to have the freedom they’ll never have with the rf.

I’d baulk at paying for their future security though.

However they seem to be cherry picking to keep the perks of being senior royals (titles, protection officers, travel and lavish royal accommodation - all tax payer funded) whilst declining the work expected of senior royals.

They dont get to keep the house, they get to live in the house rent free while they are alive. The same with a lot of minor royals! Do you get so agitated about them?

I can honestly see why they are leaving. The hatred for them is just too much for anyone to bear privileged life or not.

She worked part-time in a role created for her in a company owned by a family friend.

They don't own frogmore. It's owned by the crown. It required restoration to make it habitable for the occupants at the time. Once they are done with it, it will remain the property of the Crown and be in good condition.
