I can't help thinking they they are their own worst enemies tbh.
Like many people I was very pleased when they became a couple and wished them well.
I was (and still am) appalled at the vitriol of some of the press reporting.
However as events have unfolded I've become increasingly less sympathetic.
They've made some very poor decisions that predictably backfired and frankly deserved negative press coverage (specifically lecturing on climate change whilst making copious use of private jets and that awful ITV documentary where their "woe is us" segments overshadowed the point of their visit and ironically the good work they had done on that trip).
There was a thread about their 6 week stay in Canada over Christmas and like many posters I was again sympathetic - understanding their need to be with their son in private over Christmas and have some time out of the spotlight.
However, it turns out that not what it was about was it?
It was a 6 week boot camp to put in place this grand plan to have their cake and eat it.
Retain their UK royal status and the profile it brings yet being able to live outside the UK half the year, earn money through their "royalty" and by trade marking their "brand", pick and choose what public duties to perform whilst retaining their security and money from the DoC.
Then announcing all this as a fait accompli despite being asked by the Queen not to do so until discussions had taken place, presumably in a bid to tie everyone's hands and "force" this wish list into being.
I predict another round of "everyone is a meanie" if following this announcement that the Palace does not acquiesce to these "demands" and by way of example removes their HRH status (which I think they should).
It's not a good look....and I can't see this playing out how they want.
