Sneaking suspicion that Gregg's have done it again!

OK,first world problem,I admit. But has anyone noticed that their local Gregg's haven't had any vegetable bakes over the last week? Since the introduction of the new vegan steak bake on the 2nd of January,my local branch has not had any (vegetable bakes, that is). Whether the two are connected or it's just coincidence,I don't know. The same thing happened when they brought out their vegan sausage roll some months back. The vegetable bake disappeared for a few months, reappearing again about 4 months later. Now the same thing has happened again. I keep being told that 'they weren't sent any in the delivery' when I asked if they'd stopped doing them. But I was told the same thing regarding it's disappearance when the vegan sausage roll appeared. Has anyone else experienced this?

Costa has stopped doing its Veggie pot, but they have vegan alternatives (no egg) Sad

fairydustandpixies · 08/01/2020 18:50

There isn't a Gregg's in the whole of my county!

DanielRicciardosSmile · 08/01/2020 18:53

What? How is that possible? We have (quick count) 6 just in the city centre!

isseywith4vampirecats · 08/01/2020 18:57

each of the shops has an idea of how many of something they are going to sell each day and as the vegan steak bake is the in thing right now they probably know that customers are going to ask for that instead and they probably wont sell trays full of the other bakes so when they have done their prediction of sales and orders have probably gone for the new one instead, when the novelty wears off the veg bakes will probably be back in store

ALongHardWinter · 08/01/2020 19:00

fairydustandpixies Really?! You don't happen to live in Rutland? I read in the paper this morning that Rutland is the only county in England that doesn't have a McDonald's (although that is set to change in the not too distant future). I wondered whether they'd resisted Gregg's charms too? Grin

I too live in a county with no Greggs - Cornwall.
The locals would chase them out with their pitchforks if they tried to bring their fake pasties here.

Ayomi · 08/01/2020 19:02

The veggie bake that disappeared last year never did come back to my local Greggs 😢
Really miss us as the vegan sausage roll isn’t the same and I’m not a massive fan of the cheese and onion

AllergicToAMop · 08/01/2020 19:03

That's how they push the vegan steak bake sales up🤷
They take away other veggie options and expect that most customers will do "Well since I am here, I will try that steak bake then".

AssangesCat · 08/01/2020 19:03

I wandered into my local Greggs at 3pm on a Sunday, surprised it was even open, they only had a handful of stuff left but I scored a vegan steak bake so I don't think they are strategically running out of them. FWIW, I didn't think it was to a steak bake as a vegan sausage roll is to a sausage roll.

TheDarkPassenger · 08/01/2020 19:06

FWIW I had a veg pot from costa yesterday?

We’re a bit behind in the north though!

We have too many Greggs, as a coeliac I am thoroughly offended by it. (I’m not really)

Goodnightjude1 · 08/01/2020 19:06

They have the veggie bakes here (Cambridge) I had one today....
Wish I hadn’t bothered tho...I always forget Greggs is rank

elephantoverthehill · 08/01/2020 19:12

No Greggs in this county either - Isle of Wight as my Dd pointed out to me this morning.

canijustaskonemorething · 08/01/2020 19:15

I heard today that looks Greggs did so well last year they’re giving their employees a £300 bonus each.

Well done Greggs 👏🏻

Also love a sausage, cheese and bean melt.

ALongHardWinter · 08/01/2020 19:16

I'm surprised at the number of places that have no Gregg's! I thought they got everywhere!

issey Hopefully it will come back again,as it did last time

LtJudyHopps · 08/01/2020 19:18

When it disappeared last year my local Greggs said they didn’t know why but it was due back and they were probably improving the recipe. I was so glad it came back just as good!
I went to a very far from home Greggs on Monday that didn’t have it - but they also didn’t have the vegan steak bake so don’t think that was related. Their hot products section was very small.

TabbyStar · 08/01/2020 19:21

Costa has vegetables?

Bluerussian · 08/01/2020 19:26

I used to regularly buy an apple Danish and coffee from Gregg's in the morning on the way to the station and will still buy whenever I see a Gregg's. They were so yummy and quite different to apple Danish from elsewhere, nice and fruity. Which has nothing to do with vegan food but I don't fancy that anyway so ner.

scrivette · 08/01/2020 19:38

I like the apple danishes too, they used to do one with cream but I haven't seen that the last couple of times I have been in there (quite a few months apart so I expect they no longer do them).

TyneTeas · 08/01/2020 19:40

There was a Gregg's based Ask Me Anything a while back, I'll see if I can find it in case the OP is still about for questions...

TyneTeas · 08/01/2020 19:43

Was quicker to find than I expected!

Wonder if @Baconrollandalattee is still aboutSmile

JasonPollack · 08/01/2020 19:47

Not true @fairydustandpixies they opened one in Saltash Shock

I always was suspicious of those from North Cornwall.

angelikacpickles · 08/01/2020 19:52

The vegetable bake isn't on their website...

QuestionableMouse · 08/01/2020 19:56

I miss the cheese savoury stottie. All this veggie stuff can GTFO

Snozzlemaid · 08/01/2020 20:03

The Greggs in Saltash closed in the summer 2019. So none in Cornwall currently.

Auridon4life · 08/01/2020 20:04

You can get Gregg's at Iceland maybe fill the freezer?
