I don't. In fact, I go to the other village. My village has little supermarkets, crap parking andlittle selection. The next village has a very big supermarket with a big parking lot and a lot of products to choose from, so I go there.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 08/01/2020 01:45

I live in London so have essentially equal access to every supermarket. I will say that I prefer M&S to the others so would rather spend an extra few moments travelling to visit one of their stores.

When I lived in student halls, my nearest store was an on campus co op. My god, the food was overpriced and shit. Definitely broke any visiting the nearest store habits for me, I only went there out of sheer desperation.

My nearest is Waitrose. I am walking distance of a Tesco and Sainsbury's. I am within about 5 minutes drive of big Tesco, Lidl and M&S Food, which I pass to and from on my way to work. I pass Morrison within about 5 minute drive on my way to the swimming pool, which is opposite another Lidl. It's about another 2 minutes drive to Aldi and Asda - haven't been in Asda for ages, but I did use it when I had an evening class just oposite. Aldi only just opened, so haven't been there at all. If I want to do a bulk shop, I am most likely to drive 20 minutes to the massive Sainsbury on the edge of town. And I also have the option of various small Tesco, Co-op, M&S and others attached to petrol stations and corner shops, not to mention Iceland. Plus I pass a farm shop on the way to work. And a couple of days a week, there's a market in the town centre (10 minute walk.) I can go to pretty much any supermarket chain I want without much effort.

I mostly go to Waitrose, M&S and Lidl, with Sainsbury's for a big shop to stock up on cleaning stuff and so on, and occasionally Morrison - it depends partly on what other journeys I am making and thus which part of town I will be in, and whether I fancy a change. And I often get a pint of milk and snacks from the corner shop, which is a Londis. No brand loyalty here!

Jocasta2018 · 08/01/2020 02:38

My nearest shop is Waitrose & it's a 5 minute walk from my house. I'd have to drive for 15mins to get to the next nearest - Morrison's in one direction, Sainsbury's in the opposite direction.
I go to Waitrose as I can walk there - much less hassle.

QuiteForgetful · 08/01/2020 04:02

We have a shop 5 minutes away, but we shop for sales and quality. My dp looks at all the sales in the paper then we write a list. Usually the same 3 shops. If dp was not here, I would just go to the one 5 minutes away though, as it does have decent foods.

QuiteForgetful · 08/01/2020 04:04

(The 3 shops I mention do not include the closest one.)

stripeypillowcase · 08/01/2020 06:15

We go to Tesco at the moment as it’s the closest to our village but we are soon moving to a town with a Sainsburys, Lidl and Asda in walking distance. I’ll use them for small shops but will probably still do the main shop at Tesco after work one day when I’m near there as I know the layout!

gamerwidow · 08/01/2020 06:33

I shop online from Tesco’s because it’s one of the cheapest. My nearest supermarket is Morrison’s I’ve only been there a handful of times.

Blahblahblah12345 · 08/01/2020 06:38

One end of my town is asda other end is morrisons. Closest to me is asda. We go to morrisons 90% of the time. We even have to drive past asda to get to morrisons. But we just prefer morrisons. More/better selection of fruit and veg.

SabineSchmetterling · 08/01/2020 06:42

My closest supermarket is about 3 minutes walk and it’s definitely the one I use most often as I walk past it on my way home every day. It happens to be a Tesco. I have a Sainsbury’s, Aldi, M&S food and Morrisons all within 15 minutes walk away in one direction and then a Waitrose, Lidl, Iceland and M&S within 15 minutes walk the other way. I use the Lidl, Waitrose and M&S way more than the Morrison’s, Aldi or Sainsbury’s even though they are around the same distance away.

Oysterbabe · 08/01/2020 06:55

We have a Lidl that's a few minutes walk so we mostly go there. There's a few things I don't really like or they don't have so I've adjusted what I cook. It's mostly good.
From time to time Tesco send me a decent money off voucher and then I'll do an online shop there.

Tumbleweed101 · 08/01/2020 06:56

I have to travel 10 miles to any option so I tend to base it on which town I’m visiting and how easy it is to get to from where I am. Sometimes it depends on which one I feel like looking around.

I have Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury, Aldi and Lidl. Most of my shopping comes from Tesco however as I do a lot of online shopping.

WildRosie · 08/01/2020 07:23

I do most of my shopping at Morrison's, which was my nearest supermarket until last spring, when Aldi opened over the road. I get odds and sods at Aldi and Booths and Waitrose when I'm out of town.

Snog · 08/01/2020 08:26

I live centrally and only have metro size outlets in walking distance. All the supermarkets are available but are 10-20 mins drive away in different directions.

I rarely drive there as most of them have awful car parks so I shop online.

JingleAllTheWayhohoho · 08/01/2020 08:27

I get my big shop delivered from the nearest Asda, which is 30 miles away. There is a Tesco closer, but it is rubbish - sell by dates on meat are at least 4 days less than Asda.

I do any top up shops at Tesco or a Sainsbury’s, depending on what office I’m working at that day because I like to look at the clothes. DH does any odd bits of shopping at Aldi or Lidl as he likes the random stuff aisles.

TheVanguardSix · 08/01/2020 08:31

I don't drive and I don't live near any major supermarket. My local co-op is a ten-minute walk away in a direction I don't often travel.
So I get a weekly Ocado shop and I'll pop in for bits and bobs (if necessary) close to the kids' school which is about a 20-minute bike ride away (so, school run quick shops).

coffeeforone · 08/01/2020 08:58

Yes. Sainsbury's is our closest big one so we go there. There is a mini Tesco near the station which I use for too ups as I walk past it each day.
Can't beat Ocado for deliveries.

I wish I lived closer to as Asda as that's my favourite.

asparagusnextleft5 · 08/01/2020 11:59

I suppose I am spoiled for choice where I live. Tesco Extra is about half a mile away. Huge Asda a little over a mile away, with an Aldi right opposite. Plus a big Iceland within walking distance too. So I split my shopping between those four, depending on what is cheapest/nicest from each. Eg almost all frozen stuff from Iceland, veg/cheese/meat/baked goods from Aldi. If I am planning to buy a branded product I will check online whether it's on offer anywhere.
We do have Sainsbury's and Morrisons but they're both a good 15 minutes drive away so unless there's a really good reason to go there (such as 25% off wine when none of the other supermarkets are running that) then I don't bother.

Frazzledstar1 · 08/01/2020 17:40

My nearest supermarket is a Sainsbury’s but I prefer Tesco so drive the extra 5 minutes to do our weekly shop there (and much better rewards etc. We tend to use Sainsbury’s for top ups.

Apocketfulofposies · 08/01/2020 17:48

I chop and change depending on when I get chance to go. Ocado delivery. Tesco when kids also need pants or socks as they do clothes but choice of food less good in our one, Asda when late night as one near us is 24 hours, Waitrose if near my mum and also feeling flush and only want a few things or also meeting my mum there for coffee, and huge Sainsburys a slightly further drive - about 20 mins - when I want to look at their clothes for me. Oh and if taking the kids with me I go to Morrisons as that seems more kid friendly and also we like their deli section. We are lucky enough to have a lot of choice where I live (London).

isseywith4vampirecats · 08/01/2020 17:51

Asda is two minutes from my house aldi is five minutes but I go to aldi as I like the food in there and its still definitely cheaper than asda

Barney60 · 08/01/2020 17:58

I use a few as each sells different things that I buy, no not the nearest is answer.

angelfacecuti75 · 08/01/2020 18:01

I don't drive but oh does. I get a lot of shopping on amazon pantry /Tesco online or Iceland. I don't necessarily shop at the one closest to home . I shop at the one I'm passing on the way home normally so I don't have to go out of my way to go to a supermarket. Supplemented by lots of begging to oh "can u just go to the co op for x y z ...."
