To ask if anyone has ever had to drink this vile stuff?

I know this isn't really an AIBU topic, but it seems to get the most response when posting here hence my reason for doing so. I have a colonoscopy booked for the morning and I have to drink 2 litres of the most vile drink known as Moviprep. It's supposed to clear you out in order for the bowel to be completely empty for the procedure, but I just don't think I can drink it all. I have until around midnight to consume it but it's soooooo vile, it's already making me heave when I take a mouthful. I hold my nose when I sip it so I can't taste it fully, however, the last sip made me heave so much that I think it's going to come up rather than 'go downwards' to do the job it was meant for. Has anyone else ever had to drink this and if so, are there any tips on what I can do to get it down?

I've probably had about 700ml so far, whereas I should have been finished by 9pm

Apolloanddaphne · 04/01/2020 21:20

You go OP. You can do this!

SinkGirl · 04/01/2020 21:20

I’ve done it twice (although it was picolax), both times in hospital. First time made me really sick and they had to give me anti sickness injections, then I had hideous stomach ejections all night

Second time I drank it all, went to the loo a few times and that was that.

Definitely make it as cold as possible (fridge, ice, whatever you can)

Daffodil55 · 04/01/2020 21:24

A word of advice for a first timer at the whole thing. Prepare your bed! I thought I was all set to go and had my bed protected with 2 thick old bath towels, I wore adult disposable nappies but when the urge to go happens (in my case anyway) it is seconds away and the few steps to the bathroom can be too much. I was still bleaching and scrubbing my mattress days later (rather than buy a new one) as the torrential downpour of brown liquid was relentless for several hours during the night. Solid stuff is much easier to deal with!

Sorry for the above (too much info I know) but that is what all this bowel shennanigans is about. Not pretty and not something to share with a boyfriend. Thankfully I live and sleep alone just now.

TitsInAbsentia · 04/01/2020 21:27

I'm in agreement with @Daffodil55 prep your bed!

I had gas and air for both of mine and was fine, in fact I'd love some of that shit to relax me before bedtime, it was awesome!

OhTheRoses · 04/01/2020 21:27

I had picolax with a dash of elderflower cordial. Ask for picolax next time
Was absolutely fine. The clear out wasn't as bad as expected either.

I started the pale/clear diet a day or two earlier than advised and think it helped.

I was sedated with propofol I think and have no recollection of the procedure at all. Had results before I left.

Had to be collected by DH. Was absolutely shattered the next day.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 04/01/2020 21:27

I have Chrones disease. I have had a lot of colonoscopies, moviprep is rank. I down a pint of it with mixed with pale fruit juice then down a pint of water afterwards. It takes forever too.
You can ask for enemas instead, sometimes they're nice and let you have them instead.

SammySays · 04/01/2020 21:30

I knew this thread would be prep for a colonoscopy Grin it has to be the most vile drink ever! I have had to do this a few times and find that holding my nose and gulping it down as quickly as possible is the best way forward. I tend to drink lemonade after for a nicer taste (whilst still being a clear liquid).
Hope all goes well!

el1zabeth · 04/01/2020 21:32

baileys I'm just about to finish the last of the first litre and then will drink 500 ml plain water. I have to drink the next litre before bed and have nothing in the morning before the procedure at 10:30am. I'm glad that I will not have to drink more in the morning.
Still no shitting for me though, which I'm disappointed about.
Also, not sure if it's connected, but I have become very cold which is odd for me as I'm usually really warm.

I do have to thank all of you that have replied and buoyed me along in this....it helps to know others have had to go through the prep (and some, god love you, have to do it on a regular basis - you have my utmost respect)

I'm over the hump now with my 1st litre drank. Off to the kitchen to make the next lot now.

I’ve had to drink this a couple of times , and Kleen prep , they’re both as bad as each other
It’s nasty , but persevere , and once you start passing clear liquid , there’ll be such relief , that it will be worth it
Straws , ice cubes , lemon / orange squash all help ( and planning rewards for yourself being so brave , all helps )
When you get complimented on your nice clean bowel tomorrow , you’ll be so proud

Doilooklikeatourist · 04/01/2020 21:39

You’re cold , because you’ve had nothing to eat , and you’re about to get rid of anything that’s in the system 🤢

DebbieTheChicken · 04/01/2020 21:40

I've had this before, I didnt think the taste was too bad but by the time I was near the end of it the taste was making me gag, and it took hours after the last lot to kick in too! Was on the loo until the small hours then had to be at the hospital by about 8am! Hope it all goes well OP.

Baileys4two · 04/01/2020 21:40

el1zabeth, funnily enough, I've just gone to bed and put the electric blanket on because I'm freezing even though house is at a steady 22°C (had the woodburner on).

Baileys4two · 04/01/2020 21:41

The gurgling is moving down so I'm assuming it will work soon!

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 04/01/2020 21:42

It's disgusting. I managed one a half of the 2. I then threw most of it up. They said it was fine, most don't manage it all and as long as it does what it's meant to do then you're ok.

Baileys4two · 04/01/2020 21:43

My procedure is at 3.30pm

glasgowLil · 04/01/2020 21:44

Good luck! It’s disgusting stuff. It will probably start working pretty soon so you might not get much sleep. Really hope the colonoscopy goes ok. Hugs. Xxx

Elderflower14 · 04/01/2020 21:46

@el1zabeth I didn't start pooing till I was halfway through the second litre. In all seriousness I hope you bedroom is near the loo...

Lougle · 04/01/2020 21:47

@el1zabeth, can I just warn you that once you start you won't stop, so I'd recommend drinking the next litre when you are sat comfortably on the toilet. Take a book or your phone for company.

lynzpynz · 04/01/2020 21:48

My best friend had colonoscopies every 6 months which tasted horrific but also the cramps on her very ill bowels left her in excruciating pain. Used to break my heart listening to her (we lived together at uni). She tried various techniques and mainly mixing with squash helped, as did adding some ice cubes and using a straw as others have suggested. Best of luck getti g through it Flowers

showgirl · 04/01/2020 21:59

Ahh yes. Moviprep the delightful 2 liters. I remember every bloody sip! My poor bum at the end. It was on fire with piles I didn't even realise I had. When it starts just stay on the loo. I drank it all and was really worried as my "poo" (well water really) was still yellow. During the procedure I was told my bowl was immaculate so I asked why it was yellow and apparently its stomach bile. That's how effective the prep is.

starfishmummy · 04/01/2020 22:07

@lougle how long does the "cant stop" last because Im just wondering how one actually gets to the hospital!!

(Im not having one, just curious)

TheMemoryLingers · 04/01/2020 22:12

I started squitting two hours after litre one, just about the time I had to start litre two Sad. I used toilet roll soaked in cold water to ease the pain, and sudocrem after.

TheMemoryLingers · 04/01/2020 22:14

how long does the "cant stop" last

It eases off once your bowel is completely empty. I slept through the night and shat clear liquid on waking, and then didn't shit again for about 5 days.
