To ask if anyone has ever had to drink this vile stuff?

I know this isn't really an AIBU topic, but it seems to get the most response when posting here hence my reason for doing so. I have a colonoscopy booked for the morning and I have to drink 2 litres of the most vile drink known as Moviprep. It's supposed to clear you out in order for the bowel to be completely empty for the procedure, but I just don't think I can drink it all. I have until around midnight to consume it but it's soooooo vile, it's already making me heave when I take a mouthful. I hold my nose when I sip it so I can't taste it fully, however, the last sip made me heave so much that I think it's going to come up rather than 'go downwards' to do the job it was meant for. Has anyone else ever had to drink this and if so, are there any tips on what I can do to get it down?

I knew what you meant when I saw the tile. This is the worst bit, I promise.

When I was a student nurse it used to be Picolax . One of my friends to a sachet “ to see what it would do” ( ffs). Apparently the bin in her room at the nurses home came in very usefulShock

el1zabeth · 04/01/2020 19:18

Daffodil55 Yes the vision of the jug just staring at me with it's contents is making me wretch.

I will report back tomorrow after the colonoscopy although would they give me the results there and then or send it via post in the same manner they do the mamograms?

If it makes me shit as much as it's supposed to do, my hope is that I get slimmer of the week at Slimming World next week having shat out the world from my arse!

It is horrible, but I think it is the only stuff that does the job. Otherwise they cannot see what is going on, had it several times.

lljkk · 04/01/2020 19:22

Everything I've read about colon exams makes me think I'd choose death instead. Are starvation for at least 2 weeks instead. I just don't think I could face the whole process (which doesn't actually prevent cancer, anyway).

Nannewnannew · 04/01/2020 19:22

Oh you poor thing, I’ve had this vile stuff twice and, as you say, it really is vile. The second time I made mine up with tonic water and that seemed to help-a bit. 🤮
I also recommend some sort of barrier cream, eg Vaseline or sudocrem for your rear end once the Moviprep starts to work!
As a pp said, the actual procedure is not that bad especially if you have the sedative. Good luck OP, you have my sympathy.

GoGoPowerScooter · 04/01/2020 19:23

I went back on the fags for the couple of hours it took me to drink it - chain smoking while glugging did the trick! Horrible, horrible stuff; much sympathy Sad

GoGoPowerScooter · 04/01/2020 19:23

And agree with PPs who have said the drink is worse than the procedure - I slept through the whole thing with sedatives!

Nannewnannew · 04/01/2020 19:24

Have just seen your latest post, yes, they give you the result straight away, well, they did with me anyway. The Dr came and spoke to me afterwards.

VisionQuest · 04/01/2020 19:26

Yes I have done this. It took me all day and I was nearly crying at the end of it. Something like 8 litres of the stuff.

anothernamejeeves · 04/01/2020 19:26

I knew what it was going to be before opening the thread EnvyEnvyEnvy(vomit not envy)

Seashell80 · 04/01/2020 19:28

My DH has to have a colonoscopy every year and recommends lime and lemon squash. We did try making it into a jelly once(lime) we no longer speak of this time!😂
Good luck !

VisionQuest · 04/01/2020 19:28

Sorry pressed post too soon....

I mixed mine with orange and drank it through a straw. Fucking awful stuff. I was heaving by the end too but as soon as my poo turned a see through colour I stopped drinking it. Think I had about half a litre left

HariboLectar · 04/01/2020 19:28

@lljkk well I probably would have died without it, I'll take living over a few days of being uncomfortable due to the prep thanks Hmm

SpamChaudFroid · 04/01/2020 19:30

Holy moly, I can't believe people have to do this, it sounds terrible. I bet at some point a very chilled but plug straight out of the freezer seems like an option.

Nothing helpful to add, but I'm sorry you're having to endure this.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 04/01/2020 19:31

Ds has UC and has it regularly, first time at 6 years old. If he can, you can. Get a grip (and a straw) OP.

CostaLotta · 04/01/2020 19:31

I mixed it with orange squash and downed a glass at a time to get it over with. If you're not feeling like you're weeing out of your bum before the night is over then the colonoscopy might not be successful, so it's really worth persevering with!!

Angie6868 · 04/01/2020 19:32

Chill it in the fridge and use a straw. It's revolting stuff, I really feel for you. It makes me vomit.

recycledbottle · 04/01/2020 19:34

I have to take this tomorrow for colonoscopy on Monday. Dreading now!

CostaLotta · 04/01/2020 19:34

@lljkk what a stupid and insensitive to thing to say. Pretty sure anyone dying from cancer would choose a slightly disgusting drink over, you know, death.

MrsCherry · 04/01/2020 19:35

Definitely use a straw and put it as far back in your mouth as possible to bypass your taste buds. The sedative I had during the procedure however was truly lovely! Take it if it’s an option.

DryHeave · 04/01/2020 19:36

Just hope they don’t cancel the clinic but forget to tell you, so you turn up having been through all that and the receptionist says “oh God, didn't they call you?!” Angry

lljkk · 04/01/2020 19:38

Not me, Costa. Some of us have a different attitude.

I wonder if this is a case where only one opinion can be tolerated on a thread. I'll wait for more people to say how vile & evil I am to respect your opinions but not share them.

I hope one day they find better ways to diagnose... blood tests, magic scans, Dracula bites, anything else really.

Helenluvsrob · 04/01/2020 19:38

Ice cold and use a straw to get it as far back as you can without hitting the tastebuds !

el1zabeth · 04/01/2020 19:38

Update. The addition of squash has helped slightly and the straw too. I'm trying not to think about it too much while I'm drinking. The amount I have to down is so much more liquid than I would normally consume in an evening too which is daunting.

The procedure isn't worrying me at all, and I'm sort of looking forward to the sedative part as I love that drifty type feeling.

When should the shitting start by the way?

Use vaseline or similar. Even before you start going to the toilet. It saved my bum Grin.
