Indulge me... DH and I have enjoyed ourselves today thinking of random words that could be names Grin A bit like when Uncle Fester said Dementia was a beautiful name. DH thinks Nausea could be lovely.

When I was little I played a computer game called babiez where you adopted and cared for little computer babies. I named one Rubella, thinking it was a lovely variety of Bella.

It's a shame the names Jezebel and Salome have negative associations,

There is a Jezebel in one of our local supermarkets! I had to do a double take when I saw her name badge.

Twin boys - Flotsam and Jetsam!

CatteStreet · 04/01/2020 16:15

Sphincter has quite a ring to it for a boy.

More girls' names: Influenza, Rubeola, Cholera. Not forgetting the very classical-sounding Diphtheria.

Mockers2020Vision · 04/01/2020 16:18

Never forget dear old King Cnut. Name is still in circulation in Scandi and Switzerland.

Mangold (chard)
Pastinake (parsnip. That one might be unisex, actually)

Girls:

Salbei (sage)

As an ex midwife I could give you some unusual choices but won’t .

However sometimes families were from different countries and the name sounded quite different in their own language,

I’ve met throughout my life (not in work)

A girl whose name was DJ ...literally just those two letters. She says her parents were hippies!
Crocus ....which I think is pretty.
Mangold (A type of chard) ..and I’ve never heard another child with that name. He was at DS’s nursery.

We loved for a while in Somerset and there are some great place names there.

We used to add Sir in front of some of them to make very grandiose names.

Geoffreythecat · 04/01/2020 16:40

Not made up names, but veeery unusual ones: I went to school with Melody and Psyche.
