Are we fucked?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 03/01/2020 16:26

You might need to elaborate.

Wildorchidz · 03/01/2020 16:27

The killing of the Iranian general.

Unshriven · 03/01/2020 16:27

No.

LochJessMonster · 03/01/2020 16:27

I assume the OP is being dramatic about America killing a Iranian terrorist leader...

Emlou07 · 03/01/2020 16:28

A lot of what I'm reading, news wise, is suggesting we're teetering on WW3..

OP posts:
bettybattenburg · 03/01/2020 16:28

Yes but not because of the killing of the general. Climate change is what will see us fucked.

Emlou07 · 03/01/2020 16:28

I'm unsure if I'm being dramatic....

OP posts:
HappyHarlot · 03/01/2020 16:28

Well, it takes 3 of the top ten Twitter trends at the moment....

Cornettoninja · 03/01/2020 16:29

It’s not great is it? Myself and DP were talking just yesterday and comparing the beginning of the 1900’s to now. It’s not far fetched to think there’s another world war brewing.

If America manage to get through Trump’s presidency without him going full dictator on them they might want to tighten up their regulations on impeachment.

Horehound · 03/01/2020 16:29

Oh ffs look back in the history books. We've been in and out of their country bombing and them retaliating since the 1800's.
Calm down

SoupDragon · 03/01/2020 16:32

we're teetering on WW3..

We've been teetering there for decades.

TooTrueToBeGood · 03/01/2020 16:32

WWW3 is highly unlikely. More probably we will just see an escalation in the state sponsored guerrilla warfare that Iran, and to some extent the USA, are already engaged in. That said, with a certifiable lunatic running the US nothing is impossible.

TheABC · 03/01/2020 16:38

I don't think this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. But I can see resource wars happening in the not-so-distant future. If you want a nightmare scenario, think about the potential fallout from India and Pakistan fighting.

Figgygal · 03/01/2020 16:40

Change your news channel
There’s going to be posturing on both sides for a while but I don’t believe it will escalate without further larger scale aggression

Leaannb · 03/01/2020 16:42

We can't change our constitution. Not without Congress and even still they won't do it

bettybattenburg · 03/01/2020 16:43

We've been teetering there for decades.

I think we've come close at times, the Cuban missile crisis for example.

Halleli · 03/01/2020 16:45

I think people who go on about ‘WW3’ are being rather melodramatic.

The days of worldwide war (like WW1 and WW2) are long behind us.

We live in a world of regional, proxy wars now - Ukraine, Yemen, Syria, Libya etc.

Halleli · 03/01/2020 16:52

Plus, the ‘are we fucked?’ type-comments are rather dismissive of the fact that millions of people around the world are living under daily bombardment, with no access to clean water and no food security. I.e. Yemenis, Syrians, Iraqis, Somalians, Ukrainians in Donetsk/Luhansk etc.

Yet Westerners only care when they briefly think it might affect them - which it won’t by the way. If there is a “WW3” it will be fought in the Middle East and it will be Middle Easterners who suffer, as always.

In the UK, or the US, a small number of people may be killed by terrorists radicalised by this experience, but those numbers will pale in comparison to the price paid by the Middle East.

BillHadersNewWife · 03/01/2020 16:56

Also...sitting as I am safe in my home in Australia well out of the way of the fires, I'm getting increasingly annoyed with Facebook memes posted by English people saying "Australia is burning!" and similarly dramatic sentences.

Yes there are some serious fires going on....but we've had worse. We'll manage.

Yes climate change is real. But don't post hysterical comments about war and burning when you're not directly affected.

GinDaddy · 03/01/2020 17:02

We are not teetering on the brink of WW3.

We have been here before. There will be bristling and posturing from Iran. There will be nonsense videos posted by a l Q a e d a , A n s a r , P a l e s t i n i a n I s l a m i c J i h a d and the rest.

bettybattenburg · 03/01/2020 17:18

Biscuit

That's alright for you to say when you are well out of the way of the fires but the fires are now within 20km of my cousin's house and travelling in their direction. Still, you're alright Jack, you'll manage. My cousin and her family (as are too many others) quite likely to be homeless in the next few days. She's going to have nowhere safe to go and our other family live in other areas at risk in NSW and Victoria.

Redrosesandsunsets · 03/01/2020 17:21

People saying Trumps a dictator on here GrinGrinGrin it also looks like people believe a lot of the media and bias. No, the guys he took out in Iran are dictators.
Wake up if you think Trump is the problem well Grin good luck with that thought.

KitKat1985 · 03/01/2020 17:22

I think it's certainly an escalation point. I hope both sides can back down from this, but I sense Trump is spoiling for a war.

BillHadersNewWife · 03/01/2020 23:02

Betty did you not READ my post?? It was directed at BRITS posting hysterical memes. Not at people in Australia.

SoupDragon · 03/01/2020 23:04

but we've had worse

From the news, I thought these were the worst?
