Iran could have a crack at defence: but no way they could launch an all out attack and live. They have nuclear capabilities either ( not that it would come to that).

It sounds like it's escalating. Mike Pence now lying that Iran was behind 9/11, presumably as justification for said escalation.

Trump's an idiot but, imo, this strike was an uncommonly clever move as most of those who will be doing the usual posturing and threatening and vowing vengeance etc will be wondering how the fuck they knew when and where to aim the drones and there'll doubtless be many Middle Eastern dictators/tyrants who will be distinctly uneasy in case they're wasted on their next car ride, or while they're relaxing in their palatial villas and mansions.

Trump may take the credit but there's a far more subtle hand at play here and the necessary intelligence to formulate this strike can only have come from one source which is patently NOT any of the American intelligence agencies.

Nevertheless, I deplore the bloodshed that's inevitably going to follow this act and can only hope that Boris Johnson shows he's a statesman worthy of the title and is not another Blair whose determination to cling on to Dubya's coattails caused many of the ills that beset the Middle East today.

Unlikely re Johnson, with Brexit looming and that all important trade deal with the US at stake.

As for the 'all important trade deal', Germany's in recesssion, France is in tumult with the yellow vest protestors, and the EU is about to lose one of its biggest contributors. It seems to me that Europe needs our money one way or another and there's no reason why we shouldn't aim for a favourable deal with them.

So Iranian backed militants attacked a us/iraqi base killing 1 american and injuring serveral us/iraqi personnel, US retaliates killing some Iranian backed militants! Then the US embassy is attacked, trump then orders 750 airborne troops from the 82nd to be deployed, anyone remember Benghazi? And for some reason an Iranian general (commander of a terrorist organisation) is in iraq? I think this time the americans got it right

WWW3 would require the UN to back Trump and all resources from the UN leaders to be deployed. They would send in people via the back channels to talk and negotiate to diffuse tensions.

This level of support is very very very unlikely to happen because Trump has done this without the agreement of US congress.

A favourable deal with the EU is incompatible with a favourable deal with the US. That's down to US demands re standards and regulation. It's either/or.

It is scary but we've had scary times before. We can't have world wars anymore because it would be total annihilation. Trump and Putin are both multi millionaires, they've got a lot to lose if anything serious kicked off. That's what I'm clinging to anyway.

America would destroy Iran is less than 24 hours. Hardly any other country would get involved.
