To think neighbour isn’t nit picking for the sake of it?

Detached houses. “Next door” is actually sideward on to us and we share the driveway. DH our Christmas lights on the outside of our house before Christmas. You can change the “light pattern” from just on all the time to slow twinkling and flashing. DD likes the flashing so we tend to have that one on. Neighbour has not mentioned it all over Christmas.

Last night we had the flashing pattern on. Neighbour has just stopped me on driveway to ask when we’re planning on taking the Christmas lights down as the flashing supposedly causes her bedroom to flash and prevents them getting to sleep. I asked why she’s not mentioned it until now so she said her DH is back at work today so they’ve “put up with it” but now he needs to be able to get to sleep on a night.

We have “history” with these neighbours and do not get on. AIBU to think this is just another excuse for them to start? We wasn’t planning on taking them down until Sunday.

just turn them off FGS

ByeMF · 02/01/2020 11:15

If I was your neighbour I would have ripped the things down myself. Flashing lights are absolutely horrible. Twinkling lights are pretty, but even twinkling lights should go off at ten! Just leave them off, or unplug them at ten. Why would you leave them on knowing it is disturbing your neighbours? You're being extremely selfish.

BitConfused28 · 02/01/2020 11:17

I’ve messaged DH and he said he isn’t faffing with the settings for the sake of a few days

How fucking rude is your DH!!!! Its a switch of a button or unplugging them, hardly a massive faff around Hmm

Tombliwho · 02/01/2020 11:20

I can see why you have "history" with them. You seem like a selfish nightmare.

TheTrollFairy · 02/01/2020 11:20

No they are not nit picking. Flashing lights are bloody annoying outside your window.
Change the settings or take them down even if it is only a few days earlier

Misscromwellrocks · 02/01/2020 11:25

They sound like they put up with them for as long as possible, then politely asked for them to be taken down. You and your husband sound like awful neighbours.

Knowhowufeel · 02/01/2020 11:25

What's the issue with blue lights?

Several people have mentioned them in a negative way, but I think they're generally the prettiest colour you can get for Christmas lights.

Can anyone enlighten me?

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 02/01/2020 11:25

I sat: reverse! Are you happy OP? Grin most successful reverse I have seen Wink

Marylou2 · 02/01/2020 11:27

Make them stop flashing now. How annoying. No wonder you irritate your neighbours.

Nanny0gg · 02/01/2020 11:28

Blue lights are horrible. Just a personal opinion but I find them cold and un-Christmassy.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 02/01/2020 11:29

@Knowhowufeel I hate flashing blue lights because when you're driving down a main road and you see them briefly in your mirror or the reflection of a car coming round a corner you assume it's an emergency vehicle needing to pass by and adjust your driving accordingly

holidayhelpp · 02/01/2020 11:30

😂

user1483387154 · 02/01/2020 11:31

blue lights give me a headache and hurt my eyes, no idea why.

MyNewBearTotoro · 02/01/2020 11:31

You sound like a neighbour from hell. Totally inconsiderate to have flashing lights going until midnight - they should be Set on the least intrusive setting (definitely not flashing) and definitely off by 9pm.

I don’t believe your neighbours are as difficult as you claim or they would have been well within their rights to complain weeks ago. I’m getting the common denominator in your past issues with them will be you and/ or your husband.

paranoidmum2 · 02/01/2020 11:32

YABVVU. I don't even get headaches let alone migraines and flashing Christmas lights drive me mad.

You can't even see the lights from inside your house. Take them down!

Bottleup · 02/01/2020 11:35

You sound like a pain in the arse. Take them down and apologise profusely. And dont put them up next year ffs.

Fiveletters · 02/01/2020 11:36

You need to unplug them. This is really selfish behaviour.

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/01/2020 11:39

This^. I really hate them.

RebelWithVerySharpClaws · 02/01/2020 11:45

Light pollution is really bad for health. Flashing lights at night are terrible - is that not some form of torture?

Roussette · 02/01/2020 11:48

Blue lights are for emergency vehicles and are vile.

Hope you've now turned them off OP.

HolyForkingShirtbaIIs · 02/01/2020 11:49

Blue lights are only pretty if your idea of pretty is "dying in an icy crevasse"

GabriellaMontez · 02/01/2020 11:51

Totally inconsiderate.

Is this the direction you want your already awkward relationship to take?

ForkThis · 02/01/2020 11:52

Lights flashing in my bedroom while I’m trying to sleep would be my worst nightmare. I have streetlight right outside my window that not even curtains help. I’ve had to hang a ghastly poster over my whole window just to get some sleep. Flashing lights would send me over the edge.

You and your DH are absolute cunts. They’ve put up with it for a month without saying anything, very generous of them. Take them down, it’s fucking January.

Assholes.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/01/2020 11:58

Wow OP, judging by this and the one other thread you’ve only ever started or commented on it looks like you fall out with people a lot

Kiehlingmesoftly · 02/01/2020 12:03

I know where the OP is: she's obviously faffing with the settings. That's surely the only reason she hasn't come back to the thread. They really must be complicated....
