Gift bags. They’re just a bit naff aren’t they?

A bit Clinton cards, Facebook, live laugh love.

A gift bag user would have guilty pleasures and definitely not give head.

(Plus they’re bad for the environment of course)

Lush did that shit thing with your grandma’s old scarf. Remember?

AnnDaloozier · 30/12/2019 15:10

You reuse the card? Good god.

TeenPlusTwenties · 30/12/2019 15:11

I don't wrap as well! Hmm
I wrap.
Then I occasionally use a gift bag as well if a bag is needed to transport the gift nicely.

AnnDaloozier · 30/12/2019 15:11

Lol @ShagMeRiggins

Isitme13 · 30/12/2019 15:11

Saving and reusing the card is a level of organisation I cannot hope to aspire to

AnnDaloozier · 30/12/2019 15:11

But then you have to hold the shitting bag in a bar or wherever and everyone CAN SEE

OP posts:
Isitme13 · 30/12/2019 15:14

You’re losing me now.

Everyone can see what?

That you’re giving someone a present?

That you’ve received a present?

Because a wrapped present is somehow invisible? And wrapping paper somehow disappears once removed (if committing cardinal sin of opening gift upon receipt in public )

Christmasnamechange19 · 30/12/2019 15:15

The best friends give you a gift bag with a plain tag so that you can reuse the bag AND tag.

Like PP, there are gift bags that fly back and forth in my friendship circles. I can put multiple things in one bag, so I'm not using multiple bits of sellotape wrapping each present individually, and I can pop the card in there too. For new labels, I have a stack of white parcel labels that you tie on from Wilko and I use those.

FWIW, I loathe those decals, never shop in Clinton's (Card Factory is next door and considerably cheaper), don't use FB and my DH is happy with my head giving frequency. But I only iron if I need to.

Do you have this week off OP so just killing time?

dreichhogmanay · 30/12/2019 15:16

Gift bags get reused round these parts and certainty aren't bad for the environment.

You just aren't gift bagging properly OP.

WeeDangerousSpike · 30/12/2019 15:17

I use gift bags. Surely they're far more environmentally friendly than single use wrapping paper?! And no, I don't ever write in the card and neither does anyone I know. Because we all fully expect the reciever to use it again.

Sometimes I wrap the things in the bag in tissue paper with no sellotape. Also can be used again.

And if you want peak mumsnet middle class lentil knitting bollocks I wrapped my Xmas presents this year in brown parcel paper, no sellotape, tied with string made from organically dyed fucking sheep's wool!!!

I'm not sure I own an iron. I haven't seen it since we moved 2 years ago.

Christmasnamechange19 · 30/12/2019 15:17

Would you rather have a wrapped gift on the table OP? I'd rather be given a gift bag if we're out as it's asked to carry. I'm not 6, I don't need a stack of wrapped presents.

Christmasnamechange19 · 30/12/2019 15:17

Easier not asked

Dandelion1993 · 30/12/2019 15:18

I keep all gift bags and reuse them.

I find them much easier than wrapping and perfect for odd shaped gifts.

They're also easier for children's parties as less rubbish and easier to carry home for the parents.

iklboo · 30/12/2019 15:19

People who use gift bags are definitely very next directory.

No. More like 'aaarrggghh shit we've got no wrapping paper. Quick, rummage under the stairs and get a gift bag from Xmas / birthday / Easter / '

FOTTFSOFTFOASM · 30/12/2019 15:21

@ShagMeRiggins and @AnnDaloozier

Have you been here a while? It's like MN used to be in the Good Old Days. Grin

Now conjuring up images of someone performing fellatio while wearing Granny's old scarf.

OP, gift bags are given by people who also write 'should of', and 'lol'. Lol.

LittleBearPad · 30/12/2019 15:22

But then you have to hold the shitting bag in a bar or wherever and everyone CAN SEE

The bag? The present? Wrapping paper doesn’t just disappear.

Confused
iklboo · 30/12/2019 15:23

Oooh we could have a 'performing fellatio while wrapping presents (bows, tissue paper, the works) competition. Prizes for finishing both at the same time.

DinkyDaisy · 30/12/2019 15:23

I use and reuse gift bags, have used little net bags for bracelets or diddy presents and I use wrapping paper and sellotape!
I am clearly beyond the pale...

DuMondeB · 30/12/2019 15:25

They are useful for a awkward to wrap present and reusable.

My daughter got lots of generic ones when she was hospitalised for most of a year. They were all carefully folded and sent on to a women’s refuge who fill them with toiletries/toothbrushes etc and hand them out to women who are escaping violence with nothing but the clothes they stand up in.

So naff or not, they can be useful.

GrannyBags · 30/12/2019 15:25

I’m lost. I give both gift bags and head. I didn’t realise you had to choose one or the other.

Noviceoftheweek · 30/12/2019 15:25

‘Give head?’ - trying desperately hard yo be cool there aren’t you?
As for gift bags, I am happy to receive any kind of gift, regardless of how it is presented. I am just thrilled that someone has thought enough of me to give me a present.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 30/12/2019 15:32

I just give bread that I’ve baked in an earth oven, wrapped in leaves and with plaited grass to tie it together and a stone as a gift card, on which I write, with natural chalk a promise of giving head, which they can redeem at any time. The rest of you are just the most environmentally unfriendly people on this earth. wipes cum from chin and smugly walks off, bare footed off course

Grafittiqueen · 30/12/2019 15:33

I always reuse gift bags. I never write on the tag

gamerwidow · 30/12/2019 15:35

I like gift bags and always reuse mine. All decent people know you never fill the card in Grin

SheepGoesBaa · 30/12/2019 15:35

I found very pretty cotton bags before the Christmas. They were gorgeous. A gift bag could cost anything from 1.50 to 4/5 euro and I found cotton bags (very pretty ones) and they were 8 euro. I used them as gift bags so they can be reused. A paper gift bag will only last for so long.
