There are so many threads with the New Year resolutions, weight loss discussions, advice and probably lies as well - so many words, so many things.
I have finally reached that point from which there is no turning back. I will do this, no matter what, but - please, help me. Those of you, the heroes who have really done it - please, name 3 main things that finally helped you to get rid of that weight.
Please.

Eating more protein, less carbs and less fruit.

Sh05 · 29/12/2019 19:29

Slimming world and lots of walking. That's all I did.
I cook everything from scratch anyway but just changed the way I was doing it.

Originalusernameunavailable · 29/12/2019 19:30

Slimming world only

VeniceQueen2004 · 29/12/2019 19:31

Dukan diet. Not sustainable long term for me but I lost a tonne and didn't feel hungry (just insanely bored by my food choices, which helps you not to overeat as what you're allowed to have gets so tedious you can't be arsed to eat too much of it!)

Hoopalaa · 29/12/2019 19:31

Eat less move more. There's no science at all behind weight loss Grin
I lost 4.5 stone in 2017 ready for my wedding and have maintained since. I eat a little bit of what I fancy when a fancy it. All you need is the right mind set and some self discipline. Good luck you won't regret it, nothing tastes better than feeling good about yourself!

Inliverpool1 · 29/12/2019 19:31

8lbs by having flu and nothing but water passed my lips for 24 hours .... 6 weeks ago and it’s not hone back on at all even including Christmas.
I was quite cynical about fasting but if the need arises I’ll do it again

littlebirdieblue · 29/12/2019 19:32

I lost 4 stone in 8 months by cutting carbs and walking more. I've managed to keep the weight off for a year now and still I keep to a lower carb diet. I still eat chocolate and crisps, but I keep those treats for the weekend. I still could do with losing another stone but I'm quite happy as I am now. I went from a size 20-22 to 14-16. I'm 5ft 5

Parker231 · 29/12/2019 19:32

Lots of fruit and vegetables and three times a week gym classes.

Leedsmom · 29/12/2019 19:33

Eating less (specifically less fat), making sure each meal had a decent amount of protein.
Only snack if I’ve done enough exercise to warrant them (allow myself 70cals per mile I’ve run or walked extra)

OverthinkingThis · 29/12/2019 19:33

(much) less alcohol
Giving up bread
Massively cutting down on added sugar intake

ItsNovemberNotChristmas · 29/12/2019 19:33

10 stone lost on Weight Watchers

Loveislandaddict · 29/12/2019 19:34

I have been to Slimming World to give me a kickstart.

It boils down to lean meat, and plenty of veg, fresh fruit etc.

Cereal is evil - there’s load of sugar in it. Have porridge and (defrosted) frozen fruit to sweeten it.

Cut down on bread, butter, etc.

Don’t buy pasta sauces, curry sauces - buy tinned tomatoes,

Loveislandaddict · 29/12/2019 19:35

Tinned passata, - you can get ones with chilli in which are good for stir-fries

LastNameMarple · 29/12/2019 19:35
  1. Eating in a window - a form of intermittent fasting. Some people do 16:8 (you only eat within an 8 hour window, say 9am-5pm), but I found that because I hate eating breakfast I could skip it and 18:6 suits me really well (I eat lunch at 12pm, maybe some fruit in the afternoon, and dinner at 6pm).
  1. Low carbing. I don’t cut out carbs completely, but I don’t have carbs at lunchtime and I eat small portions of carbs with dinner if I’m going to eat them at all.
  1. Upping my activity during the day. I try to walk a least 10,000 steps a day, take the stairs not the lift etc.

If I stick to these three things I definitely lose weight. I lost a stone from mid November- mid December doing it. Slacked a bit over the past week, but back on it this week!

Walnutwhipster · 29/12/2019 19:35

I eat exactly what I want just not very much of it. I can't exercise due to poor health. I currently weigh 51kg.

Duffy888 · 29/12/2019 19:35

Intermittent fasting and exercising at least 4 times a week (spin, running, HIIT)

Dafspunk · 29/12/2019 19:35

OMAD (one meal a day) during the week.

Ylvamoon · 29/12/2019 19:36
  1. eating veggie whole food diet- non processed foods cooked from scratch. Nothing that is bought can have more than 5 ingredients, and if you don't know what one of the ingredients is, don't buy it.
  2. exercise every other day... I go walking or gym mainly swimming but will also do some cycling or crosstrainer.
  3. accept that it's a lifestyle change and it will take time to get used to it and even longer to see results.
Runningonempty84 · 29/12/2019 19:36

Running. Lots of running.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 29/12/2019 19:36

Inliverpool1 - fasting doesn't work for everyone. I've gone 3 days without food before now (thanks norovirus) and very little food for 2 or 3 days after. Not lost one ounce. Some people's bodies do not allow them to lose weight.

SingaporeSlinky · 29/12/2019 19:36

Logging every single thing you eat in My Fitness Pal app. It makes you realise how many calories are in even things like a coffee with sugar. Every time you log even one biscuit, you are surprised and start to realise it’s not worth it. For me it was more about cutting out snacks than exercising, but of course some exercise helps. As you start to lose a bit, you feel better, fitter, and you actually want to do more, I started walking up stairs, up escalators, stopped taking the car on short journeys. And don’t give up! Once you hit your target weight, you’ll feel amazing!

Srictlybakeoff · 29/12/2019 19:36

5:2 diet
Much less snacking
More exercise

halfmoonbay · 29/12/2019 19:37

Calorie counting works for me, I have lost over 2 stone this year and am now maintaining.

Bigbopboo · 29/12/2019 19:37

Intermittent fasting. Kept it off for >18 months now

QuietCrotchgoblins · 29/12/2019 19:37

So I currently have lots to lose but in the past different things have worked at different times/stages of life:

Paul McKenna I can make you thin book/cd- basically mindful eating ( find that much harder with young kids now but a great philosophy)

Low carb diet combined with high impact exercise - worked well but hard to Maintain long term

By hardly eating anything at times - not healthy, wouldn't advise.

I am going back to low carb and will reread Paul McKenna book
