There are so many threads with the New Year resolutions, weight loss discussions, advice and probably lies as well - so many words, so many things.
I have finally reached that point from which there is no turning back. I will do this, no matter what, but - please, help me. Those of you, the heroes who have really done it - please, name 3 main things that finally helped you to get rid of that weight.
Please.

I've lost 3 stones on SlimmingWorld, planning to lose 3 more this year!

StealthBoaster · 31/12/2019 20:50

Got a dog
Went on anti depressants
Only ate when actually hungry

Two stone lost over two years with no actual effort and no sign of it returning.

Henlie · 31/12/2019 20:57

I cut out red meat and wheat....plus ate as naturally as possible. No alcohol. Lots of water and exercise. And the key thing is...portion control! Bit dull....but always gets the required result 😂

Cailleach · 31/12/2019 21:12

Walking a minimum of ten miles a day, seven days a week.
Low fat diet (not voluntary - gallbladder problems)
Doing an extremely physical job
Almost totally cutting out processed / white carbs (eat very little bread, pasta, rice and potatoes now)
Cutting out sugar in coffee
Being mindful of calories / portion sizes
Getting a Fitbit

Oysterbabe · 31/12/2019 21:49

Intermittent fasting is the one for me, it's the only thing I can stick to. I can handle being hungry sometimes but not all the time, which is the case for me when doing a traditional calorie counting diet.

fruitpastille · 31/12/2019 23:05

Photograph everything you eat then look over it at the end of each day. Much easier than my fitness pal which I can never be bothered with after a few days. It really helps you be more mindful.

Carbs only at one meal. Small portions. Protein and veg/fruit. An hour of exercise each day.

MirandaGoshawk · 31/12/2019 23:07

I read an article about Nivak Djokavik giving up wheat and having loads more energy. Thought I'd give it a go - 8 months later and I've lost weight but better, have loads more energy. So, be brutal and aim to cut out all cakes, wheat cereals, pastry, pasta, biscuits, , pizza, bread (sourdough is OK) etc. :)

LakieLady · 31/12/2019 23:19

Eating in a window - a form of intermittent fasting.

I initially thought this meant literally sitting in the front window and eating.

I'd got as far as thinking "Yes, I can see how that might work, wouldn't want the people across the road to know that I'm still on 4-hourly feeds at the age of 64" before it clicked.

I think I might be a bit pissed...

strantia · 31/12/2019 23:47

**Lakie lady
I snorted my drink at your thinking! And I’m Not pissed!

managedmis · 01/01/2020 00:32

Using My Fitness Pal to record calories. Filling up on proper meals instead of snacking.
Exercise and walking more instead of using the car.

shamalidacdak · 01/01/2020 00:42

Finally got on natural thyroid meds. Exercised and ate healthily my entire life but could never shift a pound. 2 months of meds and 2 stone just fell off.

BinkyandBunty · 01/01/2020 00:55
  1. Intermittent fasting - I only eat between noon and 8pm (lunch as my main meal, and snacks at around 3pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm)
  1. Mostly vegan and whole foods, but taking care to eat enough protein and not relying on starchy carbs too much
  1. Meticulous planning, shopping and pre-preparing. I pretty much know exactly what I'm having for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next week. That way I know I'm getting the calorie deficit and nutrients I need, and I'm not making decisions about food when I'm hungry or in a hurry.
RamblingFar · 01/01/2020 00:55

I lost 2 stone without much effort with 12 weeks to WOW hypnosis.

For the next year I've bet against myself at HealthyWage. Hopefully I'll lose the rest of it and get a nice payment bonus next new year (if anyone wants a referal code, then let me know)

Fallenmadonnawiththebigboobies · 01/01/2020 01:04

Personal trainer twice a week plus calorie counting, lost 2 stone in about 7 months. Have kept the weight off for 2 years by continuing with trainer once a week, running and keeping an eye on calorie intake.

openhearted · 01/01/2020 03:50

I've lost a 1 1/2 stone in 3 months with Slimming World and on my way to my diabetes going into remission/cured. I've tried Slimming World about 4x before and it never stuck befor. I think not staying for group is why. It's now working this time around and it clicking with me because of the support of staying for the group and finding the right group for me.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 01/01/2020 04:11

16:8 fasting did it for me. Also radically improved my PCOS symptoms.

HerRoyalNotness · 01/01/2020 04:26

1200 cals a day. 2 cups veg, 4-5oz protein, 1 Oz fat for lunch/dinner. 1 fruit a day, 1 small starch a day. Breakfasts are something like Greek yogurt with fruit, eggs, avo on toast. Fill up on veg if you’re hungry.
It works IF I stick to it. I have very low b12 and have read it slows metabolism so that makes it harder to lose weight and I’ve found that to be the case. As soon as I eat anything over 1200 I start gaining. I have to lose it this year, I’m tired, bloated and don’t like the way I look.

SuperMumTum · 01/01/2020 05:53

Love all the different advice on offer here and taking it in as I also need to loose weight. Well done to everyone who has made positive choices for their health. I think a lot of us are guilty of putting our own needs last.

However, as this is a parenting forum, i just thought i would have a little word about "dieting" and the effect on kids. I am pretty certain that my mum's constant yo yo dieting when I was young directly impacted on my own unhealthy relationship with food. Of course exercise and healthy eating is an important lesson for kids to learn but if my mum hadn't been always weighing herself, tutting and changing to the next fad I'm sure I wouldn't have grown up to be a teenage, and adult, binger and emotional eater. Just my thoughts, feel free to disagree, but please think about the message you are passing on. That your body isn't good enough? Food is the enemy? Eating is naughty? Fat people are less than thin people? They learn from us, even subconsciously.

SallyWD · 01/01/2020 05:57

16/8 changed my life. At age 14 I went from being a very skinny kid with a huge appetite to being a plump kid. So from age 14 to my early 40s I tried so many diets. It was a never ending cycle. I'd spend weeks/months dieting where I'd feel permanently hungry and grumpy but pleased with the weight loss. I'd get slim. Then I'd relax just a tiny bit and the weight would quickly pile back on. I just couldn't maintain strict eating habits over many months. Food has always been my passion. I started 16/8 for health benefits. It is supposed to be anti-cancer and I've had cancer. I wasn't expecting much in terms of weight loss because I was eating a lot. It worked wonders. I definitely feel healthier, more energetic and my digestive issues have been resolved. The weight loss and management has been amazing. I eat what I want. I do generally prefer healthy foods. I love fruit and veg etc and wouldn't enjoy junk food - BUT I eat what I want in large quantities. Cheese, butter, lots of olive oil drizzled over food, pizzas, cakes, etc. I see other people dieting and saying they can't eat carbs or have chocolate etc and I feel sorry for them because I used to be like that--always denying myself pleasures. The weight falls off with 16/8 and stays off. I now just want to maintain my weight rather than lose more so I eat very well (a lot) to make sure I don't lose weight. I don't do 16/8 if on holidays, having people to stay etc (which is a lot of the time). Even if I didn't lose weight with 16/8 I'd do it for the health benefits but the fact is it's been life changing in terms of weight loss/maintenance.

Twocoffees · 01/01/2020 06:19

My fitness pal
Multivitamin (curbs cravings)
A balanced diet with whole foods including eggs nuts natural yogurt. More protein, less carbs and fruit. Nothing refined. Keeping hydrated.
Always use the stairs!

MsTSwift · 01/01/2020 07:27

Agree sally. 16 8 is amazing given up breakfast and exercise first thing. Small lunch veg only and normal dinner on small plate. Do this in the week relax at weekends. Lost 1.5 stone now bmi normal and I look visibly slimmer. If meal out just barely eat in the day then can order what I want

MsTSwift · 01/01/2020 07:30

Take the point about not messing up your kids but eating junk yourself and being overweight isn’t great parenting either. I emphasise bring healthy to my pre and early teen two girls. As a family we eat healthily and exercise a lot both girls beautifully slim and fit unlike some of their peers sadly

Fivetillmidnight · 01/01/2020 08:27
