Dog Owners ...

When you go to stay at others houses who are not dog owners without your dogs do you make the bedding and soft furnishings stink of dogs?

If not why not?

My dog doesnt smell, as she is groomed regularly. Gets cleaned after a walk . Her clothes are washed and she is brushed and given a spray of doggie perfume.
But then she is a small female dog who has been neutered.
At the moment she is on my knee and says the post is most offensive.
Shake and Vac and a good hoover works, and obviously owners personal hygiene.

"
I fess up - these are my step children not guests and I wanted to know if this is normal without looking like an evil stepmother bitching about her step children/their mother."

Drip drip drip...

Frlrlrubert · 29/12/2019 19:13

No, it's not normal to stink of dog.

The only person I knew that ever stank of dog worked with them and didn't wash herself/her clothes enough.

Iwasneveragoddess · 29/12/2019 19:14

If I had said every time my step kids come they cover everything in dog hair and make my car and my house smell like I have a dog and I find this concerning (but don’t have a dog so am not sure) I would have been flamed.

We have two dogs and I wear clean clothes daily, have a boot room at the back of the house for dog walking boots/coats to live in and I'm a little militant about the smell of them; the littlest one went rolling in a giant sheep poo this morning so has spent the day being jet-washed and smells positively ok now.

All dogs smell at times, but owners of dogs don't smell unless there are hygiene issues.

MrsMozartMkII · 29/12/2019 19:16

I have 3 big dogs, one of which is a long haired beastie, and as far as I'm aware we don't smell of dog. I get a bit paranoid so keep them clean and clothes and people are washed regularly.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 29/12/2019 19:16

Also we have friends whose DC often smell a little bit doggy. It's a hygiene thing; I don't care too much because they're lovely, but it's definitely noticeable.

PrayingandHoping · 29/12/2019 19:17

These people have hygiene and cleanliness issues! It is not normal at all

My dad is allergic to my dogs. But if my dogs are not with me he is not allergic to me! (He is however allergic to my car which is fair enough! So shows is is allergic to places where my dogs have been which aren't cleaned like a human and their clothes is 😂)

Dahlietta · 29/12/2019 19:22

I would have been flamed.

So instead you created an entirely neutral scenario where we could never have guessed that you had a complicated relationship with these people. Your use of the word 'stink' was particularly inspired.

Do you know someone who brings little boxes of dog hair to scatter like confetti when they get in your car?

I think maybe the OP's DH's ex might be doing just this Wink

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 29/12/2019 19:23

Folks this thread was never about the dogs.

Iwasneveragoddess · 29/12/2019 19:26

I don’t have a complicated relationship with them.

They are my step kids and I love them. I am concerned that this is probably noticed at school too (secondary).

I wash all their clothes while they are here but I can hardly make them strip off and shower as soon and they get in the door as will make them feel like shit.

OP posts:
sonjadog · 29/12/2019 19:27

Why are they covered in dog hair? I have never met anyone who is covered in dog hair.

Spitsandspots · 29/12/2019 19:29

These are children guests

My ex SIL’s house (separated before anyone asks why DB doesn’t clean it) is minging, covered in dog hair and stinks (6 dogs) so the kids are also covered in dog hair and their clothes smell. Poor things.

Sayhellotothethings · 29/12/2019 19:29

My own dog doesn't stink of dog and leave hair everywhere, let alone me

1Morewineplease · 29/12/2019 19:33

OP wasn’t concerned about dog hair... she was concerned about dog owners stinking the place out, even though they didn’t have their dogs with them.

Sayhellotothethings · 29/12/2019 19:43

Unfortunately I do know people that are aleays covered in dog hair and stink. They have one dog who requires very regular bathing and grooming due to his coat but they never do it, so he stinks, and they all do as well.
They have a second one who has also never been groomed, rarely bathed and he molts loads probably due to a crap diet. The house isn't covered in hair as I assume that it is hoovered but it sticks to your clothes after he says hi to you and then gets in the washer.

Iwasneveragoddess · 29/12/2019 19:58

I have tried to teach them how to use a washing machine and send them back with smellies etc, cannot exactly teach them how to wash a dog can I Sad

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 29/12/2019 20:03

You know what happened?

Someone hid a dog in their bag and let it rub all over your sofas and beds when you weren't looking.

Can't blame them, TBH.

Petrichor11 · 29/12/2019 20:08

Are you drunk OP?

Post what you actually mean to say, without the cryptic and drip feeding, and you might get useful responses.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/12/2019 20:10

I fess up - these are my step children not guests and I wanted to know if this is normal without looking like an evil stepmother bitching about her step children/their mother.

You definitely came across as very reasonable and normal as a result. Hmm

Poor kids.

Scarsthelot · 29/12/2019 20:10

How old are they?

Iwasneveragoddess · 29/12/2019 20:17

One is 15 the other is 12 about to turn 13.

They miss a lot of school for no reason and I worry they are bullied. They say not (ask if they have worries at school).

If I collect them their feet smell and there is the dog smell.

I send them home with clean clothes and new tights and socks.

OP posts:
Schuyler · 29/12/2019 20:18

Why would they need to shower? Surely their skin and hair doesn’t smell? They’re not dogs! Maybe there is dog hair but I think you’re massively exaggerating.

Wolfiefan · 29/12/2019 20:19

So this is really a post about how shit their mother is rather than a dog smell at all? Get their father to deal with the issues.

Iwasneveragoddess · 29/12/2019 20:21

I got into DH car after he brought them home (2.5 hr journey) as he was taking me on a night out and when I got out I was covered in dog hair and smelt of dog.
