This has really rattled my cage!!! A tad over the top I think..

I Think people are being deliberately obtuse here about your DD being LGBTQIA. It's used everywhere as a coverall for being anywhere in the LGBTQIA spectrum but some posters just want to play silly buggers for some stupid reason.

gamerwidow · 27/12/2019 19:51

you could just take it that the the daughter is part of the LGBTQIA spectrum and the PP doesn’t want to share which bit rather than leaping to insist she explain herself. I know you all know that really.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 27/12/2019 19:53

Hmm This shite again

dontgobaconmyheart · 27/12/2019 19:56

Why does the PP need to out her daughters sexuality/self identification to care for a bunch of deliberately obtuse stirrers?

The song is awful, nothing comical about the concept of two very unfortunate people flinging slurs that are no longer acceptable at each other. I assume none of you would find it quite so endearing and festive if you came across a couple of addicts going at each other as such in the street?

I do wish they'd blot the offensive words out, including slut, no I am no fun at parties and blah blah blah before the witticism parade show up.

Dutch1e · 27/12/2019 19:59

Yeah, this shite again. I thought the every-year threads established that in this context "faggot" means "arse-hole" as used at that time in that country (which is why it's used in a heterosexual couple).

IndecentFeminist · 27/12/2019 20:01

I'm surprised they kept it in as there is such a hoo-hah about it, but in context have no issue with it. Apparently 'slut' and 'fishy' is just A-OK, but they're only about wimmen eh.

Lweji · 27/12/2019 20:02

Did you miss the 3 threads about this in the week before Christmas

This.

Also, LGBTQIA is not a spectrum. It's an amalgam of non heterosexual sex defined gender conforming identities and therefore refers to a community.

Gender is a spectrum.
Sexuality is a spectrum.
Each refers to variation between two opposite points.
LGBTQIA is not. It's multi-dimensional. Grin

Lweji · 27/12/2019 20:02

Apparently 'slut' and 'fishy' is just A-OK, but they're only about wimmen eh.

Yes. It's always ok to insult women.

Tombliwho · 27/12/2019 20:02

OR people are wtf about someone's identity being reduced to 'my lgbtqia daughter
Many lesbians don't want to be associated with some of the elements of 'lgbtqia' for example.. It's insulting.

Lweji · 27/12/2019 20:04

Yes, it's all about the bitter aspects of Christmas and a terrible relationship. But also about love.
Nobody thinks it's the same as White Christmas or All I want for Christmas.

Bigredumbrella · 27/12/2019 20:09

The word faggot has many different meanings, a meat product eaten with mash, damp fire wood, an insult similar to arsehole. I think most sensible folks know its not used in the context of a homophobic slur in this song. Lots of people can find reasons to be offended by most things these days. I really enjoyed the show and i love the song and sang along very enthusiastically

MorganKitten · 27/12/2019 20:11

@TheNameGames they can fall under several of them, but t are a member of that community

spingly · 27/12/2019 20:12

Not another fucking thread about this! Bored.com!

Lweji · 27/12/2019 20:13

but t are a member of that community

Except that it's not really a community, is it?

UndertheCedartree · 27/12/2019 20:18

I personally think both insulting words should be blanked out. I'm not gay and can't imagine what it must feel like to keep hearing that word over Christmas but I have heard gay people say it is upsetting.

I don't mind the song but I don't really like it as a Christmas song. It's not the kind of song I want my children to hear admid us singing along to the more common joyful Christmas songs. It has always suprised me as to how popular it is as a Christmas song because for me it doesn't really contain any of the things I like in a Christmas song!

TheMistressQuickly · 27/12/2019 20:20

In a typical welsh valley, this lyric would be sung and it wouldn’t have homophobic intentions. As it didn’t when the song was written.

Everyone is ok with the woman being called an old slut tho. Just saying 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ffs.

PityParty4one · 27/12/2019 20:22

Why is faggot not ok but the use of the world slut is?

WhenOneDoorClosesAnotherOpens · 27/12/2019 20:23

What's the difference between LGBTQ+ and LGBTQIA? Confused Is it the same thing? If so, when did it change?

eveshopper · 27/12/2019 20:23

Can't she simply be your 'Daughter'? Does she need letters after her name? Is she a doctor?

The word faggot, which is not a homophobic reference in this song is absolutely fine.

You should teach your daughter not to be offended by shit that isn't a problem. Teach her about the multiple meanings of the word faggot and let her live a happy life where she doesn't get offended every 5 minutes over nothing.

eveshopper · 27/12/2019 20:25

I'm not gay and can't imagine what it must feel like to keep hearing that word over Christmas but I have heard gay people say it is upsetting.

Ask the gay people who have told you it's upsetting why they are upset. It will be interesting to know. Please report back ASAP.

Houseofmirth66 · 27/12/2019 20:26

Entirely off the point I know but I’m never sure why the LGBs get to have the transsexuals, questioning, intersex and asexual foisted on them. In my experience they have next to nothing in common. As for the A’s - go and be not interested in sex with the bell ringers or ramblers or something. Most LGB people are fed up with the world being divided into heterosexual and the rest of the world - where LGBs are expected to make a ‘community’ with the world and his (their!) dog.

DuMondeB · 27/12/2019 20:27

What's the difference between LGBTQ+ and LGBTQIA?

The I’s objected - it refers to a group of medical conditions (Disorders of Sexual Development) so has nothing in common with the others.

Some I’s are also homosexual or transgender, of course.

ChristmassySpice · 27/12/2019 20:31

Every bloody year we have to have the 'faggot' conversation.

And nobody is altogether lbgbtqia

LennyPugGoat · 27/12/2019 20:32

So Queer is ok but faggot isn’t?

AppropriateAdult · 27/12/2019 20:34

Yes, it’s used as a catch-all term for a large and disparate group of people, which is problematic in itself as other posters have outlined. To describe an individual as LGBTQIA is frankly nonsensical, and really quite othering, suggesting that the world is divided into straight and non-straight, and that, for example, a young lesbian has more in common with a 50yo trans woman than with a straight woman her own age.
