To wonder why everyone hates Katie Price?

News stories over Christmas have zoned right in on her misery ... people seem to be loving the fact that she’s having a shit time.

It’s like “Katie price to spend Christmas Day alone!”
“Katie Price loses mucky mansion days before christmas!”
Katie Price to spend Christmas without her kids!”

Then a ridiculous headline yesterday : “Huge row erupts on Christmas Day as Katie Price’s kids argue with Peter” ... turns out it was based on a daft instagram video Junior posted showing how he’d pranked his sister with a joke present and she pretended to be annoyed ...

I’m not a fan of Katie Price either but why the venom?

I met her and she seemed really nice.

The press can be very cruel. I can see why very conservative people might not like her though - she's a single mum for a start and single mums are often scapegoated and bullied.

I don't hate her at all. I don't know her. I disagree (and always have done) with the people who argued that she is an astute business woman just because she had accumulated a lot of money. I think her children are not having the best childhoods. But mostly I feel sorry for her. She is not happy.

It a British peculiarly to put someone on a pedestal then have ‘fun’ knocking them down- like the old joker in court.

In recent years every time I have seen her on tv I felt she came across as harsh, unlikeable and quite deluded. (I saw her on this morning saying she wanted to adopt a baby from Africa.....at a time she had just come out of rehab, and her life seemed pretty unstable)
But that said i think she needs professional help, and that living life in the public eye , while she probably likes the attention it brings, is probably way more damaging than living a life away from the cameras and dealing with her MH. I feel the same about Kerry Katona and Daniella Westbrook.

the "hate" from people fuels clicks and magazine purchases, which funds her lifestyle.

As with all stories, of which her life is an exaggerated rendition of plotlines and amplification of real life events, there needs to be low moments as well as highs.

She will be paid for the negative stories as well as the positive ones. It's all part of the narrative.

YABU to care, because the more you care, the more she is paid.

She’s a tragic figure of a woman.
She’s an unwell woman surrounded by an entourage of yes men and enablers.
She’s not strong. She’s not coping with her mother’s terminal illness at all. She’s quite a weak person.

No hate here. Her kids are beautiful. No one likes to see others fail. Well, the press does but that’s a whole other issue.

Whatever you think of her, she does a damned good job with Harvey.

I use to quite like her. Years ago when she started the reality tv with Pete, the media would bash her for weeks prior to a series airing, then I'd watch an episode and see that the papers got it wrong and what they were slating her for wasn't true.

She was a good business woman, she really loved her kids, she did look good. Ok, she still had lots of surgeries and makeup and hair extensions but she looked good. She had a good circle of friends they often appeared on the show. I'd come away from watching thinking she was getting a raw deal by the media and she was actually ok.

But..... in very recent years, it all changed. Friends disappeared, new ones appeared, not great friends. Her surgeries were obviously much cheaper ones and not as good which resulted in her having more and ending up looking worse. Her hair and makeup are awful, she always looks worn out, messy, like she has just fallen out of bed. Unfortunately with the amount of relationships she's had it means her kids are not with her often so she looks like she doesn't care about them.

Watching her very limited shows now. I cringe, she has changed, what is reported in the papers is coming across on TV. Her whole attitude and look is not good. So I can see why so many dislike her now. The once great business woman, who took pride in her appearance and put her children 1st always is no more.

I am neutral feelings-wise regarding KP, but I do dislike the incessant self-seeking publicity she generates and I avoid reading about her as much as possible.
It seems as though she's on a slow, downhill slide to nonentity and is desperately trying to drum up sympathy at every possible opportunity. It's very sad to watch.

I don’t hate her, I think she has been taken advantage of over the years, she Clearly has mental health problems and seems like a lost soul who needs rescuing. All the men in her life have taken advantage of that fact. She comes across as hard nosed with a don’t care attitude but the bad press must cut deep.
My daughter has met her at an equestrian event and she was lovely, very encouraging and chatted for quite a while.
I hope she gets the help she needs to sort her life out and doesn’t come to a sticky end, it would be very sad.

People don't remain the same throughout their life. She is suffering from MH issues clearly, and to think that people could abandon her just for not taking pride in her appearance..hmm.

Also as before, I think her "looking ragged" is all part of the narrative her PR has set up in order to flog more stories to Reveal, the Sun etc.

For all we know, she may be ok-ish, but needs to keep putting out this "everything is fucked" story because it's currently getting her screen time/inches in the paper.

I don't care about what she looks like, but anyone that flogs that milkshake/slimmer tea shite deserves what they get (usually the shits) and she uses her children in her ads which I don't agree with. Not surprised she has no money, a coke habit will do that

Thing is do we know or not if she was a "great businesswoman" ? She (and the press) told us so and it was a nice narrative "glamour model is actually astute business woman" but was she actually...? At the height of her fame she had all sorts of perfumes, books etc but were they orchestrated and negotiated by her or just opportunities that came her way? (And have now dried up)

I don’t have feelings one way or the other. I do dislike women making money on the back of misogyny - Nice tits,pretty face, always sexually avaiable. I also think bringing multiple partners into the family home is asking for trouble especially if you insist on marrying them.

I remember threads from years gone by on her and MN was overwhelmingly supportive. So I don’t think “hate” is fair comment.

She has an excellent agent for such things. It would be poor business sense for her to sit there on the phone calling publishers etc.

Good business folk know that opportunities don't just "come your way", you have to nurture relationships and keep yourself out there. She's done that, whether right or wrong, whether tacky or tasteful, so fair enough to her.

She's lost everything in the same way 50 Cent was "bankrupt" a couple of years back..

These are narratives designed to excite and entice readers into buying publications or clicking on articles which have paid her a fee for her "story".

A dozen years ago she was flying high for a while, pink Range Rover, objectively attractive singer husband, children, a big ITV2 contract.

That fell off due to the eventual end of her marriage, and so the PR team have now turned to the "Katie has failed" angle, in time honoured Hollywood story style, to gain some rubbernecking types who will click on her stories and go "wow how has she fallen so low?"

When she finds a new venture, or manages to find something garish to spend her money on, the headline will be

"Brazen Katie Price buys pink Bentley Bentayga following driving ban"

etc etc...

the question is relevant because news articles like this are mostly posted in gutter press such as the daily mail and if people didn’t read them / click on the links it would drive down the number of trash articles posted. To avoid reading articles like this, you could just not read papers like that. HTH.

I'm pretty sure you're 100% bang on the money with this.

People like Chanelle Hayes/Chantelle Houghton etc are minor examples of this modern "phenomenon".

Their line of work tends to be "I've gained weight, there's been a breakup", with seemingly nasty unwarranted paparazzi pics, that are of course staged.

Then follows the DVD, the weight loss columns, etc

The fact that anyone cares, is why they keep getting paid.

How come she (seems to) has nothing now if she has an excellent agent? That is what I am asking. Ok magazine etc were probably falling over themselves to get a story/photoshoot with her when she was popular and it would sell lots of copies, but are possibly not interested now.
What did her/her agent negotiate that was a long term investment?
In reality I guess very few people know actually how much money she made and how astute she is.
To me if someone is a good business woman they not only make a reasonable amount if money they would invest, plan and diversify when the original deals dry up.
