I think I saw a ghost

A few months back, DH and I stayed in a hotel room (One with “history”) abroad. I woke up in the middle of the night needing a drink. I walked through the living room area and saw a man crying in the sofa. I asked him what was wrong. He said nobody understands. I told him I do and then I woke up. I never told DH but the whole thing freaked me out. It wasn’t like a normal dream. I woke up feeling like I knew this guy. I felt sad, like literallly heartbroken at the thought of him crying.

I’ve never really gotten over it. The man was a public figure. My head tells me it was a dream of course but I just can’t process it for some reason and it’s depressing me

If it helps, the motel room was in Seattle and yes he has been mentioned on here already.

So Kurt Cobain then.
Now I can see your worry about the press getting all over this - quelle scoop!

Had it been Michael Jackson, for instance, they'd have left well alone.

As for derailing the thread...
What track is something like this supposed to go along?

ThighThighOfthigh · 27/12/2019 09:14

OP were you feeling sad before this happened? Has something big happened in your life unsettled you?

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/12/2019 09:18

I don’t believe in ghosts but I’ve seen them numerous times and grew up in a haunted house.
My degree is from Manchester.

Shanny81 · 27/12/2019 09:25

I realise now it will have been a dream. It just seemed so real at the time and I genuinely felt like I’d spoken to him. I felt so sorry for him and wished I could’ve helped him.

My own mental health isn’t great right now so maybe I was projecting

I wonder whether you were sleep walking and had a vivid dream; they really can feel very real. Our subconscious is extremely complex.

Another possibility, which I've experienced, is that it could be connected to a traumatic event that you went through. I used to have flashbacks from the SA I went through as a child. My memories were repressed for many years, as were my DSis's, and for many years I had no idea what the flashbacks meant.

As to why you'd have a picture in your head of a famous public figure, I really don't know. But your feelings of intense sadness do make me wonder whether it's connected with something from your own life.

I don't believe in ghosts as being the spirits of dead people walking round, but, as a Christian, I do believe in the supernatural so I wouldn't dismiss other people's experiences just because it's outside of my own experience.

I was certain this was going to be that bloke in the Barron Knights, they called Peanuts.

But turns out he’s not dead.

DoOneAlready · 27/12/2019 09:46

Kurt Cobain then.

Equanimitas · 27/12/2019 09:47

Ghosts are real- I’ve seen two

No, you haven't.

Most of my family and friends have also seen one.

No, they haven't

You simply have a credulous circle of family and friends.

FeigningHorror · 27/12/2019 09:49

Dreams can be very vivid, @Shanny81. Take care of yourself — are you getting some support?

Single2catsand1daughter · 27/12/2019 09:58

Alas, poor ghost! To what I shall unfold. Speak, I am bound to hear. So all art thou to revenge, when thou shalt hear.

FeigningHorror · 27/12/2019 10:03

Well, it’s a nice change from ‘There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio etc etc’, @Single. Grin

ILikeyourHairyHands · 27/12/2019 10:09

Aha! @FeigningHorror, so say they.

This is why tigers were invented.

There has to be a mechanism by which idiots are rendered neutral.

Anyway, back to my many honours.

Primrosepenny · 27/12/2019 10:11

@Equanimitas ok Grin

FizzyIce · 27/12/2019 10:21

@FlamingoAndJohn if you claim you’ve seen one then you must believe in them .
Otherwise you would attribute it to something else ...
I do not believe in ghosts therefore I have never seen one and never will

QueenOfTheFae · 27/12/2019 10:28

@FlamingoAndJohn
I don’t believe in ghosts but I’ve seen them numerous times and grew up in a haunted house.
sorry, what now?

My degree is from Manchester.
ah - is your post a joke (which I could have missed as didn't RTFT first!?)

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/12/2019 10:32

I saw something which at the time was thought to be a ghost. I still don’t know what it was but I don’t believe in ghosts so I don’t think it was one.

SweetMarmalade · 27/12/2019 10:37

I’m thinking Kurt Cobain too as he came from Seattle.

OP, I feel terribly sorry for the life that lead him to do what he did. I was gutted when I heard the news (I was a fan).

Dreams can seem so real and that’s all this was. You must have discussed him quite a lot with your dh being a fan. Dreams can also stay with you emotionally for some time. In time that emotion will lessen.

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 27/12/2019 10:41

snapcrap I had a similar dream about Matthew Wright, and that I'd even posted on here about us! He's really not my type! Sorry Matthew, if you're reading.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 27/12/2019 10:45

Errm...there's being closed-minded and then there's being so open-minded your brains are falling out.

Worra Xmas GrinXmas Grin... and why is it that it's only ghosts of famous people who are noteworthy?

GhostWithTheMost · 27/12/2019 10:51

It sounds like a vivid dream.

I have seen ghosts but not for a long time.

One was a man with dark hair, dark jacket and pants crossing the motorway but there was just space between where below his knees to feet should have been.
As he was crossing he was looking towards our car but vanished before he got to the central reservation.

Charlottejbt · 27/12/2019 11:03

It sounds as if the dream/ ghost was trying to tell you something important. I've also had a very powerful and affecting dream about a long-dead singer and it has turned out to be prophetic in ways I couldn't have imagined at the time. I never considered that I'd seen a ghost because the setting of the dream was very incongruous and nowhere near where I physically was at the time. Several years later I'm still weirded out by it though. I think if I'd seen a "ghost" in a place I was actually staying at, I would have died of fright!

MsChnandlerBong · 27/12/2019 11:05

Imagine a paper picking this up 🤣🤣

yellowallpaper · 27/12/2019 11:22

It was a vivid dream. I saw a ghost when I was fully awake on a sunny day. I saw an old lady standing g behind her elderly partner in their house. It was as clear as day although her face was in shade. Only occurred to me to ask a few days later, who she was as I though the old lady had died. She had and there was no one else staying in the house with the old man, especially wearing slippers and an old fashioned housecoat/apron. DH and DS were next to me and they didn't see her. I never believed in ghosts til then.

LaMarschallin · 27/12/2019 14:34

"Betsy's been dead ten years..."

It's a shame Shutter Speed never got made.
How could a film with that plot like that fail?
