I think I saw a ghost

A few months back, DH and I stayed in a hotel room (One with “history”) abroad. I woke up in the middle of the night needing a drink. I walked through the living room area and saw a man crying in the sofa. I asked him what was wrong. He said nobody understands. I told him I do and then I woke up. I never told DH but the whole thing freaked me out. It wasn’t like a normal dream. I woke up feeling like I knew this guy. I felt sad, like literallly heartbroken at the thought of him crying.

I’ve never really gotten over it. The man was a public figure. My head tells me it was a dream of course but I just can’t process it for some reason and it’s depressing me

doyouavocado I know it wasn't meant to be funny but does he have a moustache cracked me up! 😂 like the guess who game! 😂 Seriously though OP I've had some weird dreams that have made me feel sad for ages sometimes as they've been emotional. I think if you at least told your dh then you might get some perspective on it or at least get it off your chest in rl. He might be more understanding that you think.

FruitcakeOfHate · 26/12/2019 23:07

Very vivid dream.

Ladybirdbookworm · 26/12/2019 23:14

I realised over the years that a very vivid dream, that I couldn't get out of mind, was always the start of a bipolar episode.
Is it possible at all that your mental health isn't too good at the moment ? Flowers

LolaDarkdestroyer · 26/12/2019 23:33

Meh it was a dream..I got excited then but ghosts are real I've seen them, and know family/others that have too. But this was nothing but a dream.

ElmStreet · 27/12/2019 00:16

"There's no such thing as ghosts"

Says o r rather prove s, who.

Um.. what?

It's impossible to disprove a negative, so no-one can ever disprove ghosts. Because they don't exist. I might as well ask you to disprove the 14ft lizard that lives in my ceiling. You can't, because you can't disprove a negative.

FeigningHorror · 27/12/2019 00:22

What’s more likely, OP— that, primed with the idea this troubled musician often stayed in your hotel room, you had an unusually vivid dream about him? Or that his spirit returned from beyond the grave to have a conversation with a random woman in a hotel room? Or does he do it for all guests?

Primrosepenny · 27/12/2019 00:23

@ElmStreet plenty of people have seen ghosts. You haven’t and so you don’t believe. I have and so have many many other people and so we do believe. You can’t tell the people who have seen them that they don’t exist because we know they do and you’ll never be able to make us think otherwise

Triglesoffy · 27/12/2019 00:24

Did he invade Oland?

Mymycherrypie · 27/12/2019 00:31

You’d been thinking of him all day. You were in a room he was in. Your entire trip seems dominated by this stay.

Given that dreams are the brains way of filtering our daily information and activities, and making long term memory stores based on that (or deciding what to throw out), it’s no inconceivable that that’s the reason you dreamed about him. You already knew he was sad, it was no shock - he committed suicide.

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/12/2019 00:32

I agree with others that you had been thinking about this person as it sounds like you were staying there because of the connection. Then you dreamt about him.

Hearthside · 27/12/2019 00:39

I believe in ghosts , have seen one .Our house is haunted my youngest DC has seen it on a few occasions. Daytime in the same place . Elmstreet you say ghosts don't exist my DC will resolutely stand by what they saw.I go out with a paranormal group and have had too many things happen to be explained away .But we all believe what we do .Op it's hard to say do you sleep walk or were you dreaming if you can rule that out then maybe you did .

Hearthside · 27/12/2019 00:43

Primrosepenny absolutely agree .Even though i believe i won't say oh yeap ghost i will look for a rational answer and sometimes there just isn't one .

FeigningHorror · 27/12/2019 00:45

No, @Primrosepenny, people who don’t believe in ghosts are capable of critical thinking, and simply recognise the existence of hypnogogic/ hypnopompic hallucinations, night terrors, dreams, the unreliability of human perception and memory, especially around sleep, in poor visibility and in suggestible circumstances such as the OP’s.

BertrandRussell · 27/12/2019 00:46

“You can’t tell the people who have seen them that they don’t exist because we know they do and you’ll never be able to make us think otherwise”
How incredibly closed minded of you!

WorraLiberty · 27/12/2019 01:05

Has anyone ever seen a 'ghost' wearing an Adidas tracksuit or a superdry coat or I don't know...a Burka or a Shari or something?

It's only just struck me that I've never heard of that sort of thing? Confused

overnightangel · 27/12/2019 01:11

Kurt Cobain?

AwakeAmbs · 27/12/2019 01:13

I believe you OP..it might have been residual energy. Not everyone is sensitive, some are x

AwakeAmbs · 27/12/2019 01:14

There is more to life that we know. I am a graduate with 3 first class degrees and yes I also believe in ghosts x

user1473878824 · 27/12/2019 01:15

OP in the nicest possible way I don’t think the Daily Mail are going to run a story about a woman who is sad because she had a dream about a dead musician.

Primrosepenny · 27/12/2019 01:16

@FeigningHorror I’ve seen a ghost twice in the daytime so I certainly wasn’t dreaming.

nopixelsfound · 27/12/2019 01:19

@WorraLiberty my mum used to swear blind that as a toddler I'd talked about playing with cousin "James" who died as a teenager before I was born (so in late '80s) right down to describing his favourite shell suit.

I have no recollection at all of this and suspect if it's true I'd seen a photo rather than played with a ghost!

KareyHunt · 27/12/2019 01:23

Max Bygraves

everythingbackbutyou · 27/12/2019 03:47

Give us a clue! Which country/city were you in? What genre of music?

FredaFrogspawn · 27/12/2019 06:46

I can’t believe how many people give any sort of fuck who the musician was - it seems to torment people not knowing. Mad.
