To ask if you bought a Marks Yule Log this year, was it drier than the Gobi Desert?

So, this is a moan and a first world problem. I fully acknowledge that. Just curious.
Did anyone buy the Yule Log from Marks this year and find it drier than the Gobi desert?
Also, what was a hit you'd buy again I need to New Years Day inspo for lunch buffet for 12.
Thanks

Morrisons Best Fydge Yule Log is v good £4/5.
Not dry at all.
This year and last.

mrsbyers · 26/12/2019 12:54

We had a M&S Yule log as part of dine in for £10 recently and it was beautiful

maddiemookins16mum · 26/12/2019 12:54

The problem is it was probably made in early November.
The Extra Special one from Asda was lovely (especially with cream on).

DailyMailHater · 26/12/2019 12:58

Morrisons choc fudge Yule log was brilliant also got a lemon and passion fruit cheesecake Christmas tree pudding - both went down very well!

Grandmi · 26/12/2019 12:58

Yes the Yule log was delicious, not dry at all. My moan is the shortbread biscuits...they were all broken!! Still yummy though !!

PerpendicularVincent · 26/12/2019 12:59

No it was lovely, probably aided by heating it in the microwave and covering it in custard

TheReluctantCountess · 26/12/2019 13:01

I’ve got one. It’s a tiny bit dry, but bloody delicious! I like the idea of heating it in the microwave - I’m going to try that.

BrokenWing · 26/12/2019 13:12

We had (two of 😳) the M&S £10 one from the fridge and they were lovely, light, moist and milk chocolately. Saw the special woodland one and the off the shelf one and they both looked heavy and dry.

Have you tried zapping in microwave for a few seconds ((5-8) to liven them up?

twoheaped · 26/12/2019 14:40

I had a Morrison's and an M&S Yule log. The Morrison's one knocked the M&S into a cocked hat, far far nicer.

ViciousJackdaw · 26/12/2019 15:35

I've got a Tesco Finest Yule Log, as yet unopened. I will crack it open now, in the name of scientific research and report back.

HolyGuac · 26/12/2019 16:15

Excellent idea to microwave it!
Going to do that later, thanks.
It was the woodland one, it's pretty but very dry.
Going to go for something more fruity for New Year I think.

I dont get the praise for the Morrisons best fudge one. It was bloody awful. So dry we couldnt eat it. Absolutely tasteless too. Went in the bin.

VivaLeBeaver · 26/12/2019 16:23

The M&S gluten free one is really nice and not dry.

AllNewThings · 26/12/2019 16:27

I see your dry Marks yule log and raise you a Marks toffee trifle with a big pube in it.

KnifeAngel · 26/12/2019 16:34

We had the Tesco Finest and it was awful.

PrettyShiningPeople · 26/12/2019 16:34

We had a Christmas Colin the Caterpillar & it was the same.

Unfortunately shop bought cake does generally tend to be dry and disappointing. If I can’t be arsed making my own I’d rather not eat it.

ifpossible · 26/12/2019 16:34

Bloody hell @AllNewThings I hope you’ve complained!!

Palavah · 26/12/2019 16:37

For NY I'd be going for a blackcurrant cheesecake / Tarte au citron. Waitrose do good ones.

LEELULUMPKIN · 26/12/2019 16:51

We had and have still got loads of the M&S Black Forest gateau. Gorgeous, very moist!

TheSquitz · 26/12/2019 16:55

To be fair AllNewThings, it wasn't just a pube, it was an M&S pube.

IHateBlueLights · 26/12/2019 16:55

Our M&S one was lush.

Fcukthisshit · 26/12/2019 16:56

I can highly recommend the Aldi hot chocolate fudge pudding (with the gold snowflake on top) holy shit that was so good! Served it with some extra thick cream!

I am sure I read this thread last Christmas. Maybe they are the same stock.

divafever99 · 26/12/2019 17:03

The Asda extra special one was lovely, we ate it on Christmas Eve.
