To ask if you bought a Marks Yule Log this year, was it drier than the Gobi Desert?

So, this is a moan and a first world problem. I fully acknowledge that. Just curious.
Did anyone buy the Yule Log from Marks this year and find it drier than the Gobi desert?
Also, what was a hit you'd buy again I need to New Years Day inspo for lunch buffet for 12.
Thanks

I made a Black Forest style Yule log. A ton of cream inside kept it must. Really pleased with how it came out as I don't often make desserts

Moist, not must!

ifitoldyouidhavetokissyou · 26/12/2019 17:09

We have the one with the toadstool on still to open. Won’t be happy if it’s shite. Cost me £15!

DarwinianMinion · 26/12/2019 17:10

Wow @Weedsnseeds1 that’s gorgeous!! Recipe please??

Floralnomad · 26/12/2019 17:11

My dsis has the toadstool one and she said it’s lovely , I don’t eat chocolate cakes / puddings . Dd has had the gf one from Marks and that definitely wasn’t dry

HolyGuac · 26/12/2019 17:12

Good grief Allthigsnew that's terrible! That can't be fixed with microwaving or pouring cream on it! Shock

@DarwinianMinion there isn't really a recipe, it's Genoise sponge, with cherry compote and chantilly cream inside. Then chocolate ganache as icing. Decorations are made from marzipan, with chocolate leaves ( dip real leaves in chocolate and peel off when hard). The pine cones are made from bran flakes, so not the tasty but look the part! It's much easier than it looks, honestly

HolyGuac · 26/12/2019 17:14

Weedneeds that does look fab! Can we have a recipe link?
Next year I must make the time to make my own, shop bought while convenient is never as good as home baked when it comes to cakes.

I had the Tesco Finest, looked a million dollars with gold and choc shavings etc but a 99p Value one would probably have been nicer. Dry as a bone.

Gingernaut · 26/12/2019 17:23

It may not be a pube.

That could be from a beard.

CaMePlaitPas · 26/12/2019 17:23

Our M&S one was lovely - I didn't think to microwave it because it didn't last that long... oops.

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/12/2019 17:24

I would have chucked some kirsch in too, for preference, but there were going to be kids eating it, so couldn't

Heismyopendoor · 26/12/2019 17:25

I’ve got the £10 fridge one. Not tried it yet, but hope it’s not dry :S

Sushiroller · 26/12/2019 17:27

Waitrose festive meringue wreath
It has white choc raspberry and passion fruit and was GORGEOUS 🤩🤩🤩

We are going to buy a second one for NYE

NoProblem123 · 26/12/2019 17:34

Heeheehee....not just any pube, but an M&S pube- very good 😁

StickyProblem · 26/12/2019 17:38

Ooh I tell you what we did have though - Tesco Finest Millionaires Pinata Dessert. Like a trifle with choc, caramel, shortbread crumbs and a chocolate ball that you crack open pinata-style to reveal chocolate stars and glitter. Absolutely fantastic - DP said it was the best dessert he'd ever eaten. Will try and find the link for inspo.

sendinallthesheep · 26/12/2019 17:39

We had the woodland one and it was delicious, really rich and moist, with perfect cake to buttercream ratio.

dontcallmeduck · 26/12/2019 17:40

Also had the woodland one and it was very moist and delicious

TheHobbitMum · 26/12/2019 18:10

We had the xmas Colin and it was awful dry! You had to drink after each mouthful Hmm

HolyGuac · 26/12/2019 20:23

Microwaved the slice of forest Yule stump for forty seconds and then added a big dollop of ice cream! Miles better than yesterday!

Now I decided not to get a yule log because they all looked dry

But I brined my turkey and it was super moist!!

thewinkingprawn · 26/12/2019 22:34

We had the m&s one and the Aldi one and also was hands down better.

thewinkingprawn · 26/12/2019 22:35

Aldi not also 🙄

CarolinaPink · 26/12/2019 22:38

I didn’t get the Yule log but I bought a Wiltshire ham and a very expensive free-range organic bronze turkey. The ham is as dry as a bone - it’s like cutting into a log - and the turkey was tough and almost stringy. Bizarre Hmm

MrsWonderland · 26/12/2019 22:40

I thought it was us! Bought the £15 woodland one after my son begged me to and it's ridiculously dense and dry.

Will try microwaving it tomorrow but not thrilled having shelled out £15.

Now the Waitrose Giant Jaffa Cake Dessert on the other hand...
