Never had a problem with ALDI meat. My local Morrison's on the other hand, we've had loads of off chicken and a bit of green beef.

AwakeAmbs · 25/12/2019 17:53

It’s a dead carcass so it’s definitely off, yeah.

FrenchBoule · 25/12/2019 18:04

@sqirrelfriends I had the other way round. Never had a problem with Morrisons meat, Aldi and Lidl on the other hand...
A few times I bought the meat, sometimes it was ok, sometimes itsmelled as soon as I opened the packet.
I live an hour away from the shops so no point in chancing Lidl/Aldi meat only to be left without meat for a meal.
Aldi and Lidl’s milk also always goes off on the date/a day before the date while any other supermarket lasts well.
I still go occasionally to Lidl/Aldi for certain products but I stay away from milk and meat.

We had that crown today and I thought something was off with it but didn't click until now we all ate it.

EnglishRose13 · 25/12/2019 18:13

I knew it was going to be from Aldi and I knew the used by date was going to be for tomorrow. Facebook is full of people complaining about the same.

MumofTinies · 25/12/2019 18:16

I love having Turkey at Christmas but it's not worth eating that!
I hope your DH is OK

hiphiphoorayback · 25/12/2019 18:16

We all enjoyed it. Now just waiting and I have loads left in the fridge. Was it all the free range crowns or just some batches?

newbingepisodes · 25/12/2019 18:19

We just had gammon - no turkey in our house today!

isitpossibleto · 25/12/2019 18:22

I had off pigs in blankets this year. They were off last year too. I’ve complained on social media (this is the 4th incident of off meat from Aldi in a year). I’m never shopping for meat from them again

readyforchangenow · 25/12/2019 19:00

We opened our Aldi chicken to cook this morning, well within date, absolutely stunk made us gag, ended up having to share some of DM's lamb joint she was making. Raging with Aldi

Wolfiefan · 25/12/2019 19:05

Sympathies to anyone who’s bought meat and been hugely disappointed. Just a reminder. It’s not the fault of people who work in the store. Please don’t go in and let rip when the store reopens. (No I don’t work for Aldi but I have worked in retail.)
Hope the rest of your festive food was delicious.

Sparkle2020 · 25/12/2019 19:21

Oh no. Can’t believe you cooked that, it looks disgusting

KimchiLaLa · 25/12/2019 21:17

OP was the turkey ok?

MrsFrankDrebin · 25/12/2019 21:35

While meat from traditional butchers can be seen more of a luxury these days, good meat isn't supposed to be cheap. We've got used to a distorted idea of meat prices compared to years ago. But having said that, we always get our turkey from the local butcher - he does the crowns boned and rolled, so no waste and all white meat, and you can see/smell it's fresh straight away as he weighs it out for you. It isn't even that expensive, especially compared to a whole bird/crown from the supermarket where you're still paying for varying proportions of bone you can't eat. We had enough to feed 5 adults today, plus plenty of leftovers for 2 more meals/curry, all for around £30. Local butcher every time for us - even more so after the rotten supermarket turkey stories this year, and last!

Did everyone survive?

You aren't trying hard enough.
A MN chicken can feed five for a full week of breakfasts, lunches and dinners.

A turkey crown should do you for a solid month without breaking a sweat! Grin

Singlenotsingle · 25/12/2019 23:42

OP seems to have disappeared, probably stuck on the toilet.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 26/12/2019 09:17

@y0rkier0se How is your DH today?

hiphiphoorayback · 26/12/2019 10:38

I had the same turkey as OP. All OK and still eating leftovers. I was a bit worried as youngest was complaining of tummy ache at midnight but thankfully probably too many chocolates!

y0rkier0se · 26/12/2019 10:39

DP is fine today. He does have guts of steel anyway - eats really hot curries etc without it affecting him. Surely it would’ve kicked in by now if he was going to be ill? I’m still glad I didn’t risk it - I wanted beef but DP protested Christmas dinner had to be turkey Xmas Hmm

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 26/12/2019 10:46

Good to hear he's OK. I think he'd be feeling sick by now if he was going to be ill. If it had really gone off it would've smelt too bad to eat, I think.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 26/12/2019 11:56

It’s early yet. It can take up to 24hrs for symptoms to show.

bringbacksideburns · 26/12/2019 12:08

I've never had any problems with Aldi meat. I bought a full turkey this year though - saw those Crowns. Did you chop out the marked bits at least? Yuk.

Let's hope he's alright.

y0rkier0se · 26/12/2019 14:58

The black bit, I think as a PP said, was feathers - it looked green through the packaging but when it was off it was definitely black. I think the other bit may have been stuffing under the skin but cut it out anyway. 24 hours have passed so DP is feeling smug he got away with it
