If you google “green turkey” there’s info that says apparently it’s to do with lack of blood supply to the muscle of the breast meat. Says it’s safe to eat

MoobaaMoobaa · 25/12/2019 11:05

FFS DO NOT COOK IT!

According to industry website britishturkey.co.uk a turkey will smell very gamey, acrid or of ammonia if it has gone off

The flesh could also have a greenish tinge and feel quite slimy

"If in any doubt - don't risk it - bin it," advice on its website reads.^

"The flesh should be in good colour and look moist in appearance with no dry flaky patches."

Timberoo · 25/12/2019 11:05

It's not the feathers she's looking at!

@Frouby? Slice the rancid bit off? Seriously?

Gingernaut · 25/12/2019 11:06

Possibly green muscle disease found in factory farmed chickens and turkeys.

Timberoo · 25/12/2019 11:08

The turkey is rotten. Call it whatever you like.

SarahTancredi · 25/12/2019 11:10

On a side not one or two if the comments in the article say they purchased on the 19th. A large Turkey in a packed xmas fridge that's still being open and closed several times a day. That would be pushing it anyway wouldnt it?

Timberoo · 25/12/2019 11:11

Look, if you're a bid dodge about whether something is safe to cook/eat - guaranteed it's not. Rule of thumb I go by.

Whiskers14 · 25/12/2019 11:12

If it's an Aldi one I'd bin it. They've admitted a batch of turkeys from one of their suppliers is rancid.

Lweji · 25/12/2019 11:12

The green bit near the herbs could be juices from them. Hard to tell from photos

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 25/12/2019 11:14

I wouldn't risk cooking it personally. But if I were to, I'd make sure I practically cremated it.

Minky35 · 25/12/2019 11:15

It will be one of the ‘off’ Aldi turkeys. It looks rotten to me. It’s not worth risking food poisoning IMO, I’d retake it back for a refund and get down to your local Spar or just have gammon.

EagleVisionSquirrelWork · 25/12/2019 11:20

I think I must be looking at completely different pictures from everyone else. The black mark is just a blemish from plucking. I can't see anything green at all (except the herbs). It looks a bit slimy to me, but that could just be fattiness on the bag. I would go by smell and OP says it smells fine. Confused

BillHadersNewWife · 25/12/2019 11:21

Meh it's fine!

Supersimkin2 · 25/12/2019 11:24

Don't open the bag, it looks like it would run off Xmas Grin

The bacon looks fine.

BiteyShark · 25/12/2019 11:26

I agree we had black patches which were from the feathers. I am sure a photo of it in its bag would look similar to pic number 2.

The problem with herb, bacon in a bag is that it can discolour. I would be opening the bag and examining the turkey properly just like I did with mine. There shouldn't be any real smell and it shouldn't be slimy.

If in doubt I wouldn't cook it but just looking at photos though a bag isn't enough to tell.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/12/2019 11:27

Turkey's aren't like chickens, so will look different.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/12/2019 11:27

**when plucked

PastelRainbows · 25/12/2019 11:27

AIBU to think that live food gone off/bin or eat threads are almost as exciting as live birth threads 😂

Back on topic, that turkey doesn't look good. Raises all my emetophobic alarm bells

VivaLeBeaver · 25/12/2019 11:28

I had similar from Aldi 2 years ago. We all ended up having nut roast for Xmas dinner. I was not impressed!

derekmorgan · 25/12/2019 11:29

Its not just Aldi turkeys which are off, I just checked my chicken from there and its green, slimy and smells awful! Gammon and sausages it is then! 😫

Michellelovesizzy · 25/12/2019 11:29

Oh god i got exact same turkey as you. Lol i have cooked now

64sNewName · 25/12/2019 11:30

It’s not so much the discolouring that’s would make me doubtful - it’s the bit that looks like a rotting hole. Can PPs not see that?!

Xmas Envy
VivaLeBeaver · 25/12/2019 11:31

Just reading that article in the Mirror and I can’t believe the woman who says even the dog gagged at the smelly turkey. My dog would eat a week old dead seal on the beach and roll in the carcass!

SarahTancredi · 25/12/2019 11:31

pastel Grin

I have to admit that I'm really squeamish with meat. I dont trust poultry or pork even a day before the use by even if it looks and smells ok.

I certainly can't do the black.and green colour chart of acceptability. I wouldnt trust my pus vs bruise assessment and the worry would ruin the day more than no turkey would.

Genzeee · 25/12/2019 11:32

This is why I don’t shop in Aldi. Food is rotten
