If anyone lives in West London and is looking for a turkey I have just come back from a supermarket in Harlsden called Way2Save and they had turkeys.
It's also quite a nice shop.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 25/12/2019 13:22

That's off, looks revolting.

Eat the gammon, don't risk the turkey

minimumeffort · 25/12/2019 13:23

I don't buy poultry from Aldi any more as I have had several bad experiences with it going off well before the sell by date. One I could forgive but not the three times I have had to throw stuff out. When I complained on the third occasion (a stir fry containing chicken which had a severely distorted packet due to it giving off so much nasty gas several days before it's use by date) they couldn't have been less interested.

sqirrelfriends · 25/12/2019 13:34

Oh fuck, we have the same turkey now resting on the kitchen side. Does anyone know if rotten turkey smells after cooking?

LakieLady · 25/12/2019 13:38

This thread has made me glad that our oven packed up a couple of weeks ago and on Monday, I was told that the spares it needs are now obsolete and it cannot be repaired.

We have a big vat of chilli simmering gently on the stove for our Christmas dinner.

So sorry for everyone who's plans are scuppered, Christmas is stressful eough without this happening.

I wouldn't cook it, OP. It's not worth the risk of poisoning everyone

SusanneLinder · 25/12/2019 13:43

There will be a BP garage open with an M and S. Might have a chicken if you need to bulk out x

Layoverlife · 25/12/2019 13:49

Why would you take the risk? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Food poisoning can be horrendous, if the turkey is "off". It can be avoided in you're case just by not cooking the turkey..... Grim! 🤢😷

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/12/2019 13:56

This happened to me one year Sad Horrible, but so not worth the risk of trying to cook/eat.

My Db told me a whole stretch of horror stories he'd picked up on the grapevine this year about most turkeys being processed and prepped in early Nov and the fresh ones then sitting around for two months before sale often in dodgy transfer situations, which is why so many are going off before Christmas day, even when sold well within their use dates. He warned the family to buy frozen or to choose another fresh meat instead, and I admit it's put me right off turkey.

GladAllOver · 25/12/2019 14:08

Cook in the bag poultry always has basting fat and usually herbs as well.
You should be able to see if it's the meat that colour or just the coating. Does it wipe off?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 25/12/2019 14:08

Tbh, whatever your financial situation, this is one time of year when people ought to be buying decent high welfare meat. Our 3kg free range chicken cost £20, so not exactly breaking the bank. Better than some poor creature that's been raised in misery in the dark, pumped full of hormones and then left to go rancid.

Vilanelle · 25/12/2019 14:11

Jesus that looks awful. I never buy poultry from aldi anymore.

Elderflower14 · 25/12/2019 14:17

Glad we bought a frozen crown from Aldi and not a fresh one... 🤮 🤮 🤮

Drum2018 · 25/12/2019 14:35

Could be green muscle disease which apparently is not harmful. However, there's no way I'd eat it.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 25/12/2019 14:40

Not harmful for people, at any rate. Not much fun for the turkey.

Karenisbaren · 25/12/2019 14:42

I bought a chicken out of Aldi once and it had a few days date left on it, took it out the wrapper and it stunk to high heaven, I had to bin it. Luckily I managed to get one elsewhere but it really has put me off their meat.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/12/2019 14:48

I'll eat anything, and even I wouldn't eat that.
Photos then bin

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/12/2019 14:58

Those photos do not look good. Have you tried it?

TitsInAbsentia · 25/12/2019 15:12

Take photos of all the packaging too just to make sure you have everything covered.

sqirrelfriends · 25/12/2019 15:18

We just ate ours and it was delicious. I hope yours was ok too OP

y0rkier0se · 25/12/2019 15:21

It was free range.
I cooked it and it looked and smelt fine, DP had some with the disclaimer of showing him the pics and explaining what it was like. I enjoyed my gammon. Will see if he’s poorly tomorrow! Don’t think I’ll get Aldi turkey again though.

AlwaysCheddar · 25/12/2019 15:49

It was in the news that loads of turkeys bought from Aldi have gone bad..... that’s why I don’t shop there. Shit food.

AlwaysCheddar · 25/12/2019 15:50

And how they won a good housekeeping g award, goodness knows how! Makes me think twice about GH.

ChristmasFluff · 25/12/2019 17:28

Yikes, no!

So many people I know have had problems with Aldi 'fresh' stuff being rotten, the minute I saw you had got it from Aldi (obviously along with the minging pics) I was NOOOOOOO!

Hope your husband is ok :-(

Elderflower14 · 25/12/2019 17:47

Can't believe a) you cooked it and b) your husband ate it...
Hope you have plenty of toilet roll... 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮
