whether to report dh for drink driving right now?

I can't even believe I'm in this predicament. DH is a bus driver, so driving is his job, what supports us.

he has came home drunk a few times, where he has drove home, and I've been angry, and warned him to not do it again.

He just popped back now to drop me some food off, and I smelt vodka, his eyes looked red, and his cousin is in the car, drunk also. He flat out denied it, and said I'm imagining things, and then he went back to his car and drove off.

I'm really worried about him killing himself and cousin, and other people. But if I report him, and the police catch him, that means his jobs gone, and we would be left broke with no income?

I just don't know what to do to make sure he never does this again.

I reported my exh, (he lost his licence for 2 years) and I filed for divorce the next day.
No regrets.

AstonMartini · 22/12/2019 22:20

You have absolutely done the right thing, OP. I am sure it won't have been easy. I reported XH to the police for drink driving many, many years ago. I did it before he set off: I knew he was too drunk to drive, so rang them in his presence. He was furious, but it stopped him. I'm still not sorry.

Keepmewarm · 22/12/2019 22:21

Well done.

Don’t feel bad if he is caught and loses his job. If he isn’t caught he may lose more than his job,

FruitcakeOfHate · 22/12/2019 22:21

Well done! You may have saved someone's life.

WishUponAStar88 · 22/12/2019 22:22

Well done op that must’ve been a tough call to make but definitely the right one xx

Nanmumandmidwife · 22/12/2019 22:22

@steakandmantoo just wanted to say that I think you have done the right thing. I admire your courage- that must have been very hard to do.
Good luck with moving on with your life. You’ve made the first (huge) step

i would (i have)

Raphael34 · 22/12/2019 22:29

Have you heard from him since he left?

MsChnandlerBong · 22/12/2019 22:29

You have to report it. So many drink drivers are 'normal' people. Didn't intend to drink so much, wasn't aware I'd had that much etc. etc. People die. They honestly do. My nephew was killed by a drunk driver on 27 December last year on an A road in Lancashire. He was 22. Coming home from hid Christmas do.

saraclara · 22/12/2019 22:29

Well done. It's very much easier for us to tell you what you should do, than it was for you to do it, knowing that you'll suffer for it. I think that should be acknowledged.
Did you give them the car's registration number?

YappityYapYap · 22/12/2019 22:29

Well done OP. It's hard but you have done the right thing and basically saved a few lives (including his) by doing this ♥️

Purpleneonpinkunicorns · 22/12/2019 22:30

Novembre · 22/12/2019 22:31

Well done for reporting him. I hope, you're ok.

Bunnyfuller · 22/12/2019 22:33

Brave and right thing to do OP. Drink driving is such a selfish crime.

Savingforarainyday · 22/12/2019 22:34

He clearly has no judgement, and shouldn't be in charge of driving innocent people around.

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 22/12/2019 22:35

I used to have a friend who worked for a bus company, as an accountant (not even a driver) and he was super careful about drinking because apparently the company did random regular alcohol tests on ALL employees, and you could be sacked if you were at work over the limit even if you weren’t driving. So he would make sure to stop drinking at a certain time at night so that he could never be over the limit the following morning. Again I say, not even a bus driver.

So I am genuinely shocked at a bus driver being this reckless. You are so brave to have reported him and I really hope it gives him a wake up call if nothing else.

Justgorgeous · 22/12/2019 22:35

@MsChnandlerBong so sorry for your loss. 🌹

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/12/2019 22:36

You did the right thing.

halocompanach · 22/12/2019 22:36

So I'm sure the police will wait around and wait till they start driving away then stop them, if they are smart.

The police have to, it's not a criminal offence until it's obvious they are going to/are actually driving the car - I don't know if they can arrest them once they get in the driving seat or have to wait for them to put the keys in/drive off or whatever but I think they'd have to arrest them for something different in the car park and not in the car as they wouldn't know if or who.
