Lip Fillers

What the fuck are these young women doing to their lips?

Saw a girl in Lidl today who clearly had naturally thin lips. Had a huge fillet in her top lip. All it looks like is someone with a huge filler, not someone with lovely generous lips, see it all the time and it looks horrific.

What happens when they hit 40?

How much does it cost?

Why are we all injecting shit into our faces?

I think the trend to have these awful, out of proportion lips is very sad.

I won’t name anyone but there are certain schlebs who have just gone too far, their lips look ridiculous.

Genuine question but if you repeatedly plump up up your lips doesn’t it eventually affect the skin? So all these 20 somethings currently having fillers/Botox whatever is injected, what will their lips look like in 20 years time?

Sweetpeach3 · 23/12/2019 10:33

@CaptainCabinets @Iwasneveragoddess

This is because she's posted a picture straight after the treatment -as you can notice the pin prick marks quite clearly . They would be hard to tell once the swelling has come down.

koshkat · 23/12/2019 10:33

Shrivelled balloons or else they will keep up with the fillers and have porn star lips in their 80s...

CaptainCabinets · 23/12/2019 10:34

Interesting that two internet strangers with an anti-filler agenda would have guessed when my own partner and mother didn’t. Smile

CaptainCabinets · 23/12/2019 10:35

@Sweetpeach3 yep, that photo was fresh off the needle. Swelling and bruising is immediate and settles within a few days, so you really can’t tell I have fillers once they’ve settled down.

I have chin filler too, again undetectable because I have a great injector Wink

koshkat · 23/12/2019 10:35

I am not sure that I would have guessed but you do have pink pricks in your lips so that might have given it away if I got up that close!

Lol at 'anti-filler agenda'! Maybe they are just pro women's health?

Iwasneveragoddess · 23/12/2019 10:36

Pro Women’s self esteem and value I would say.

There’s being pro women’s health (guess what, I’m a nurse so me too!) and there’s being gratuitously vicious towards women (and men! My aesthetician has tons of male clients, they mainly go for jaw filler though) who choose to tweak their appearance in ways that don’t fucking harm anyone else Hmm

CaptainCabinets · 23/12/2019 10:39

You’re the only person devaluing anyone here, OP. What business is it of yours, exactly?

Iwasneveragoddess · 23/12/2019 10:40

I think it does harm others though.

It send out a message that this is the expectation of you in society, this is how society expects you to look.

Hence the rise is people doing this.

Nobody held me down and forced me to have lip fillers. I’ve not been peer pressured or media influenced to have lip fillers (and I agree that some fillers look fucking shocking)

I think the real problem is that untrained and unqualified people are going around injecting people’s faces on the cheap, which some people think is a great deal and end up with fucked-up fillers. There really is no issue in having Botox or fillers with licensed, trained, qualified and insured providers who know what to do if something goes wrong. This is reflected in the quality of their work and also their pricing. That’s why cheap fillers look shit, and those are the fillers you’ve been seeing around, because good fillers done by a good aesthetician are unnoticeable.

CaptainCabinets · 23/12/2019 10:47

FWIW I couldn’t give a shiny shite about how ‘society’ expects me to look. The rest of me doesn’t conform to any sort of societal norms, whatever you suppose those to be, so I can’t say my decision to balance out my lips and chin has been informed by ‘society’.

AuntSpiker · 23/12/2019 10:48

From the botox review conclusion:
There are several issues regarding side effect and complication following the injection. However, there are several techniques to reduce side effect and complication rate after the injection.

The UK review of fillers looked at under 4k participants in total, the US study looking at adverse events and litigation was much larger. Here's the conclusion:

To our knowledge, this study is the most wide-scale analysis of reported complications of filler injections. Although swelling and infection were the most commonly reported events, of the serious complications reported to the FDA, Radiesse was significantly more likely to result in vascular compromise, and injections to the nasal dorsum were significantly associated with blindness. Injectors need to have thorough knowledge of filler complications and their appropriate management. An analysis of litigation surrounding fillers demonstrated that alleged deficiencies of informed consent were a commonly cited factor. Improved communication with patients may enhance their understanding of the procedure and potentially reduce litigation.

One other point is how do women know who is qualified? Is a nurse who has done a short course qualified? I've got a friend who is a nurse, she did a bit of training and now does Botox and fillers, with a discount for friends. She's lovely but I wouldn't want her injecting anything into my face to be blunt! The NHS website just says avoid practitioners who have done a short course. How short is to short? Who regulates them?

Iwasneveragoddess · 23/12/2019 10:49

@CaptainCabinets

What was it that gave you the idea to have it done then and influenced you?

Glad it makes you feel so good to sneer at and tear down other women. You must feel sooo clever and special Smile

Awful things. I am sure the odd person has discreet lip fillers though the majority look ridiculous. Both of my teenage niece's have ruined their faces with lip fillers. Dsis spent 1000's fixing their teeth and they ruin their lips.
Just when they start to look normal again they have them refilled.
Big lips are fabulous and sexy if you're born with them.
My slim lips are staying.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 23/12/2019 10:58

Being pro women's self esteem and value means respecting whatever they choose to do with their bodies.

You could say women shouldn't wear makeup, or have their hair styled, or shave their legs, just to conform to what society expects of them.

I haven't had any cosmetic surgery and don't intend to. I don't have a problem with women that do. It's their choice and their choice should be respected.

koshkat · 23/12/2019 11:00

Captain you are blinkered if you think that you have not bee influenced in some way to get your perfectly lovely natural lips inflated. Why would you even think of such a thing otherwise?

I wish that women could stand up to all of the pressure to look a certain way that they are under but I know how bloody hard that is myself and so there is no 'tearing down' going on. WE are all victoms of it. It is the misogyny in society that needs to be tackled, not individual woman and I am sorry if any of my posts upset you.

koshkat · 23/12/2019 11:00

God sorry about the random typos!

MistyCloud · 23/12/2019 11:02

I have also noticed that the ones who have had fillers and clearly support it, are massively in denial about why they are having it, and also VERY much in denial of the risks and the danger.

The latter is very alarming. To sing the praises of it and say it's soooo perfectly safe and normal is depressing and frightening.

I fear for the future of our girls and young women. But I do thank GOD that the young women I know (including my DD) have not succumbed to this dreadful trend.

And so far, all the ones who have posted pics of their filled lips. Yeah you CAN tell. I know it doesn't suit you to hear that, but you can.

You remind me of the kind of people who think they look much younger than their age, and assume everyone else thinks they do . And when they don't, they think they are lying, or just saying it because it suits them to say it, or they're 'jealous...'

Utterly utterly deluded, and very strongly in denial.
