Lip Fillers

Iwasneveragoddess · 22/12/2019 19:54

What the fuck are these young women doing to their lips?

Saw a girl in Lidl today who clearly had naturally thin lips. Had a huge fillet in her top lip. All it looks like is someone with a huge filler, not someone with lovely generous lips, see it all the time and it looks horrific.

What happens when they hit 40?

How much does it cost?

Why are we all injecting shit into our faces?

My sister has them and she looks so awful. Like a blow up doll. I’ve never seen them look nice and they add about 20 years onto whoever has them. My sister is 23 and looks in her 40’s.

MistyCloud · 23/12/2019 03:01

@Lifeaback As a few posters said, the lips on the first pic looked absolutely fine, and you can tell you have had filler (on the second one.) No idea how your mother didn't notice!

@sausagefingersH Again, as others have said, your lips looked fine before, with the cupid's bow upper lip; they just look filled now.

No idea why either of you had fillers, I really don't.

@beautifulstranger101

I can tell plenty of people dye their hair but they dont get roasted for it not being "natural". People wear makeup but noone has a go at them for not being "natural". Bra padding is also not "natural" neither are high heels yet noone gets blasted for falsely making their legs look longer. I dont get the judgment when women have been adorning their appearances using fake means for decades.

But none of the above, look ludicrous on someone DO they? They also do not pose a danger to someone's health or well-being. OTT lip fillers (and botox) like Charlotte Crosby and Ferne McCann and Megan from Love Island (and even Maura now) look ridiculous. I'm not being horrible - they do. They are also dangerous, and can cause permanent scarring and lasting damage.

The 2 posters I have quoted don't look bad by the way, but they do look different/a bit filled.

I also agree with a pp, that having fillers and botox does not make people look younger either. Indeed, it has the opposite affect. Eg, Katie Price looks 5-8 years older than her age now. And many other women I have seen who started having fillers/botox around mid 20s to early 30s, look five to ten years older than their age, within a decade of starting it.

@73Sunglasslover

Although, I am ancient at 46.

LOL at you classing 46 as 'ancient.'

beautifulstranger101 · 23/12/2019 09:38

@Mistycloud

Please get your facts straight before scaremongering about something you clearly know nothing about.
Firstly, botox and fillers aren't "dangerous". Botox has been used for years prior to cosmetic treatments to help children with limb spasticity and muscle contractures in doses FAR higher than would ever be used in the face. So we know it's safe when properly administered.

Fillers are a newer phenomenon but the risk of side effects is low and they have shown to be safe. Thats because most fillers use hyaluronic acid which is a substance ALREADY FOUND in the human body.
If you go to a properly qualified practitioner you will be fine. Any medication can have side effects including over the counter paracetamol (allergies) or birth control pill (blood clots etc).

Regarding them looking "ludicrous" well that of course is your personal opinion and you have every right to think that. However, I'm afraid most people that get them, including myself, simply dont care what you think. I will continue to do whatever I want with my appearance because its my choice. I see a lot of people out and about that I personally think look bloody awful and an absolute mess but I dont go around slagging them off or saying mean things about them because its really none of my business how they choose to look. If you dont like the look of fillers the answer is really simple- dont get them!
Oh, and btw, using katie price as an example of how botox and fillers typically look is ludicrous. I know lots of people who use botox and fillers and not a single one looks like her.

Branleuse · 23/12/2019 09:46

Its a trend that I hope dies a death, sooner rather than later.
Painful, expensive and far too easy to look awful

beautifulstranger101 · 23/12/2019 09:48

@auntspiker I am merely pointing out the complete hypocrisy of people going on about how unsafe fillers are when they likely do many things in life that are just as "dangerous" yet noone bats an eyelid or harangues them about how what they are doing is so "unsafe".

Some of the side effects you mention are as rare and unlikely as it would be for someone to get toxic shock from using tampons (yet millions of women still use them) or a blood clot from BCP (yet millions of women still take BCP) or have an allergic reaction to paracetamol (yet millions of people still take that), or have a severe anaphylactic reaction to hair dye causing your throat to swell up so you can't breathe (yet millions of people still dye their hair).

But I suspect all this faux concern about other people's health is simply another way to justify the fact you personally dont like fillers.

koshkat · 23/12/2019 09:51

So sad that women feel societal pressure to do this. I also think that our pornified culture has so much to answer for. And I know that women will say that it is their choice but no choice is made in a vacuum.

The most beautiful woman I know is in her 60s, natural grey hair, done yoga for years so is lithe and strong and she exudes good grace and humour. She is completely 'natural' and is a strong woman at ease with herself. This, to me, is true beauty.

AuntSpiker · 23/12/2019 10:00

Of course botox and fillers can be dangerous, you can't just say they aren't Confused That list of complications for fillers was from the NHS website. Here's some more on complications of fillers from the US:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29270603

The reality is that botox administered for contractures is usually undertaken by consultants in a hospital setting. As opposed to someone who has done a brief course and had minimal anatomy knowledge and little understanding of infection control.

Here's a paper looking at Botox, the reality is, we don't really know if it's safe or not:
www.karger.com/Article/Fulltext/370245

ShirleyPhallus · 23/12/2019 10:03

Like Botox fillers are detectable

Actually, good botox done well is undetectable and looks fantastic. I know a woman in her mid-40s who doesn’t wear make up and when I asked her how her face looks so fresh she said it’s all Botox, just done very sparingly and well.

Likewise, I met a friend for lunch recently and she looked so well rested. I asked her if she’d had a facial or something but Botox was the answer.

It looks terrible once it’s noticeable but that’s the thing - when it’s not obvious it just makes that person look fresh. I haven’t had it but probably would.

beautifulstranger101 · 23/12/2019 10:06

@auntspiker
Which is why I said you should go to someone who is properly qualified.
Did you not read that part?

Side effects of hair dye from the NHS:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/hair-dye-reactions/

Potential of side effects from using tampons:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/toxic-shock-syndrome/

Are you also going around warning people of hair dye and tampons? I suspect not.

SerenDippitty · 23/12/2019 10:07

The reality is that botox administered for contractures is usually undertaken by consultants in a hospital setting. As opposed to someone who has done a brief course and had minimal anatomy knowledge and little understanding of infection control.

Well quite. And anyone having it done in hospital for legitimate medical reasons will be doing it for the sake of an improvement in their physical quality of life. Not for vanity.

maddening · 23/12/2019 10:08

I was out in Liverpool and commented to my friend about the number of V young women (18-20 age bracket) who obviously had fillers, she said that the look now is to obviously have had work done, so for the young women cheap lip fillers are the most affordable way of achieving the look.

AuntSpiker · 23/12/2019 10:11

It's not fake concern. My concerns are two fold. Sadness that women feel they need to have such invasive procedures, what's driving this pressure on women? And secondly, the safety of these products, particularly away from a clinical setting.

The other examples you give are just whataboutery (paracetamol is a valuable painkiller, the pill is a vital form of contraception). I'm not haranguing anyone, I'm simply putting my points across, I'm allowed a different opinion.

beautifulstranger101 · 23/12/2019 10:12

Oh,you want scientific studies? well here you go:

Current reviews of the literature show botox and fillers are both very safe:

Botox: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6489637/

Filler: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30636365

CarolinaPink · 23/12/2019 10:12

filler not fillet Grin

In fact I thought you did mean fillet, because it does look a bit like that to me. Quorn fillet in top lip. Quorn-billed platypus Grin

Strongmummy · 23/12/2019 10:13

I have a bit of filler and it looks good. It’s very very subtle tho. Some like the pneumatic look. It dissolves after a few months

Namestranger · 23/12/2019 10:15

I hate them and its so boring the way women in the public eye seem to think they need the wasp stung baboons arse look in order to be attractive. I'm all for live and let live but it'd be a shame if girls that watch all the reality shows develop a complex about their entirely normal mouths.

ActualHornist · 23/12/2019 10:15

I hate this.

It’s like, we’re not allowed to notice or comment on people with lips like bike tyres because ‘it’s their body’ - but it’s hard not to have a visceral reaction to them.

They look horrible. If you can’t notice the change - what’s the point - and if you can, they look universally gross. I work with mostly under 25 year olds and almost all of them have had fillers. They look vile. At rest they’re ok on some, but the second you start talking or eating? Horrible.

I agree it is hugely concerning.

@maddening I’m in Liverpool. It is truly shocking, beautiful young women mutilating themselves, covering themselves in layers and layers of make up?

Notsure94 · 23/12/2019 10:16

They're really horrible. The ridge ends up looking like moustache. It's a grotesque porn-driven trend in my opinion *hoists bosom

AuntSpiker · 23/12/2019 10:18

What on earth have tampons and hair dye got to do with this? Do they make fillers and Botox more safe? Or take away the concerns about social pressure on women and their appearance?

CaptainCabinets · 23/12/2019 10:21

I love mine. They’ve given my face so much balance with just a tiny amount of filler. They definitely don’t look overfilled, there isn’t a visible border and they’re not swollen and shiny. You wouldn’t guess I had them unless I told you.

Lip Fillers
Iwasneveragoddess · 23/12/2019 10:23

@ActualHornist

Totally agree.

I also worry about a society where we worry more about getting our lips filled than people sleeping on the streets next to the beauty salon.

Our priorities seemed somewhat fucked up.

OP posts:
beautifulstranger101 · 23/12/2019 10:23

I'm out now because you are clearly being deliberately obtuse about this.

My point was the HYPOCRISY of focusing on the safety of botox when woman do plenty of other things that are also potentially unsafe yet noone starts threads bashing those things. But carry on with your tut tutting and making vicious, mean comments about other women. It really makes you all look so much more morally superior to those of us who get subtle fillers. Congratulations on being far better examples of "natural" womanhood. I presume your medals are in the post?

Iwasneveragoddess · 23/12/2019 10:24

@CaptainCabinets

I’m sorry but I would’ve guessed.

OP posts:
Branleuse · 23/12/2019 10:30

I would have guessed too tbh.

CaptainCabinets · 23/12/2019 10:31

@Iwasneveragoddess how would you have guessed? Explain Smile
