Lip Fillers

What the fuck are these young women doing to their lips?

Saw a girl in Lidl today who clearly had naturally thin lips. Had a huge fillet in her top lip. All it looks like is someone with a huge filler, not someone with lovely generous lips, see it all the time and it looks horrific.

What happens when they hit 40?

How much does it cost?

Why are we all injecting shit into our faces?

Good fillers is like good Botox, barely detectable, the issue is when people mistakenly get too much of either.

Personally if the person is happy with how they look I can't see the issue. There are plenty of things people do to alter their appearance, each to their own, as long as it's safe, people shouldn't judge each other. Tattoes, piercings, hair dye, make up, whatever it is, people shouldn't be slagged off for their choices.

AuntSpiker · 23/12/2019 12:29

HA might be natural, but putting it in a syringe and injecting it into a face can result in adverse outcomes wouldn't you agree? The risk is reduced if you use someone with a medical or dental degree, but many people don't - see the use of 'aesthetician ' above. One study showed 83% being done by non medical personnel. The lack of proper regulation is awful.

koshkat · 23/12/2019 12:29

My whole point is that they ARE harmful! Have you not been reading what I have said?

gypsywater · 23/12/2019 12:30

@Bluntness100
Precisely, as long as it's safe, live and let live

gypsywater · 23/12/2019 12:30

@koshkat I meant physically harmful Smile

koshkat · 23/12/2019 12:31

Yes I get that. Hmm

MerryDeath · 23/12/2019 12:31

i think a lot of people are getting away with the subtler ones and yes they do look good but others.... oh it's just so sad that we have warped our views on beauty so far. the expense and discomfort women feel they need to foist upon themselves. makes me angry. and i've been tempted! still could be! but then i get cross and never actually go through with it.

gypsywater · 23/12/2019 12:32

@AuntSpiker I 100% agree that better regulation is required. The same for teeth whitening. For sure.

koshkat · 23/12/2019 12:33

Absolutely Merry.

gypsywater · 23/12/2019 12:33

@koshkat you "get that" yet asked if I have read your post? You have an interesting debating style, that's for sure!

koshkat · 23/12/2019 12:35

I have no idea what you are talking about now but I thought you wanted to get back to the debate rather than nit pick at me?

gypsywater · 23/12/2019 12:37

@koshkat you are cute Grin

cavabiensepasser · 23/12/2019 12:38

I don't understand what there is to debate in all honesty. Those who like fillers will continue to get them without giving so much as a shiny shit what random Brenda on Mumsnet thinks.
Brendas on Mumsnet will continue to froth, yap and howl about it... and still it will be of zero import or consequence. Grin

cokehoke · 23/12/2019 12:42

I don't think anybody here is criticising the young women themselves; rather, they are aiming their disapproval at the societal pressure which encourages people who are perfectly attractive as they are to have injections of dubious safety in order to conform to some pornified aesthetic.

I agree with this. On the one hand I agree with letting people do what they want but then I don't like the way things become normalised & if you don't get filler your the odd one out. I think it's odd how the look at the moment is so identikit. We preach acceptance & diversity but the beauty standards seemed to have narrowed.

cokehoke · 23/12/2019 12:43

I mean people have ribs removed & inject lethal filler into their bums, it's crazy!!

Iwasneveragoddess · 23/12/2019 12:43

Just because I choose not to disfigure myself doesn’t make me a “Brenda” which I assume you mean dull and boring.

Not sure what having a lesbian friend has to do with anything either.

Having had to have life saving surgery in my teens I don’t know why anyone would choose to have an unnecessary medical procedure anyway.

Is it bad to say I feel sorry for this man & think he looks scary?

BlueSkyAtChristmas · 23/12/2019 12:46

As the mother of a young girl, this trend does actually bother me. I think it’s absolutely fine to use cosmetic procedures where there is a medical issue or to reverse significant signs of ageing. Completely understand why people would want the option to do that.

However it’s really not fine to change the face you are born with for pure vanity reasons. I think this trend of procedures amongst very young women (many of whom will have low self esteem) is VERY worrying and definitely worth debating.

cavabiensepasser · 23/12/2019 12:47

Stupid is as stupid does - if you go to some butcher to have your filler, or surgery, just to save a few hundred, then I'm afraid that's on you and you're likely to get a bad result. We all know it.

I'd honestly say injectables should only be administered by a trained and licensed medic. Not sure if a nurse is enough for my liking, I wouldn't go to anyone other than a dentist or an aesthetic Surgeon. So, I'd totally back strict regulation.

But as far as I'm concerned, if you're not having your fillers/botox somewhere dodgy, then go right ahead if you want it, and enjoy your fillers. They're less permanent than hair colour. Grin

gypsywater · 23/12/2019 12:49

And let's all be real here...trying to reverse ageing through dealing with greys through hair dye is also vanity, pure and simple!

cavabiensepasser · 23/12/2019 12:50

Don't know what's wrong with vanity, in all honesty. I have exactly zero problems with self-indulgent, selfish, Vanity. I put myself, my comfort and my needs and wants front and centre in my life. I ain't gonna apologise for that.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 23/12/2019 12:51

Fillers and those awful brows that meet in the middle. All whispy and fake. Their grandkids will look back one day and ask “gran, WTF?”

ClientListQueen · 23/12/2019 12:52

It's how well it's done. My eyebrows are fake, I have Botox and it's not obvious
Fillers done badly will look bad

koshkat · 23/12/2019 12:52

Brendas on Mumsnet will continue to froth, yap and howl about it... and still it will be of zero import or consequence.
FFS Hmm

This is very apparent.
